How’s This Sword’s Sharpness?

After leaving the mansion and walking for a while, they arrived at the town square. Waiting there were the guys who were close in age to older brother Snail and often hung out with him.

By the way, Snail was 15 years old.

“Yo, kept you waiting. This guy was slow, so we got delayed.” (Snail)

“Nah, we just got here too.” (??)

“Monster hunting, I’m looking forward to it! I wanna see Snail-san hunt a big one again!” (??)

Since they could not go against Snail, the lord’s son, rather than friends, it might be more accurate to call them underlings.

Compared to them, 12-year-old Leon was small, and among this group, he was by far the weakest.

“So, where are we going today?” (??)

“The western forest.” (Snail)

“T-The western forest?” (??)

At Snail’s words, the underlings were shocked.

“I-Is it gonna be okay? I’ve heard there’s a considerable number of goblins there?” (??)

“The adults told us not to go near the western forest…” (??)

“Hah, no matter how many goblins there are, they ain’t scary. Besides, look at this.” (Snail)

Snail drew the sword hanging at his waist. The beautiful blade gleamed brilliantly in the sunlight. Even a novice like Leon could immediately tell it was a finely crafted sword. Since his older brother was proudly showing it off, there was no doubt about it.

“Whoa, it looks like an amazing sword!” (??)

“Of course it is. After all, this is the world’s greatest sword that the legendary Hero used.” (Snail)

“For real?” (??)

“That’s awesome!” (??)

“As expected of Snail-san!” (??)

Whether the story was true or not was suspicious, but since they knew they would suffer greatly if they displeased him, none of them showed any sign of doubt.

“But, why is the Hero’s sword here?” (??)

“Apparently, a long time ago, a terrifying monster appeared around here. The Hero defeated it, but during that battle, our ancestor fought alongside him. His bravery even surprised the Hero! This sword was given as a reward.” (Snail)

“Heh!” (??)

“That’s amazing!” (??)

To begin with, the world’s greatest sword wouldn’t be given away as a reward to someone. Of course, no one could point that out.

“With this, I can take down not just goblins but even an orc!” (Snail)

In the end, following the highly enthusiastic Snail, they decided to head to the western forest.

As its name suggested, it was a forest to the west of the town.

Is… Is this really going to be okay…?

Goblins were indeed weak monsters. As long as one had proper equipment, even a child could defeat them. However, in the forest, they often formed groups, and depending on their numbers, even adult warriors could struggle against them. That was why few people approached the western forest, especially not children alone.

Leon felt anxious, but all he could do was quietly follow them.

“Take this!” (Snail)

“Gyaa!?” (Goblin)

Snail’s swung sword sliced through the goblin’s torso diagonally. The goblin spewed dark red blood and collapsed to the ground.

“Hah, how’s this sword’s sharpness?” (Snail)

“This is insane!” (??)

“Cutting a goblin in half… Even the town guards couldn’t do that!” (??)

As Snail held up his sword and struck a pose, the underlings showered him with praise.

Leon and the others had ventured deep into the western forest. As expected, the place seemed to have a large goblin presence, as they kept appearing one after another. They were all stragglers so far, appearing only individually.

Just as Snail boasted, the sword said to have been used by the legendary Hero seemed to live up to its name. Among those his age, Snail was rather large and strong, but even then, an ordinary sword wouldn’t be able to slice through a goblin in one swing. The underlings had accompanied Snail on monster hunts many times before, so as expected, they weren’t struggling against goblins.

Seeing this, Leon felt a bit relieved, thinking they might be fine even if they ran into a horde. Incidentally, Leon was truly just carrying the luggage, as expected of his role as a porter. Being small and weak, and having never properly held a sword, he wasn’t allowed to participate in combat.

Not that I want to… It’s scary.

“Gigigi.” (Goblin)

“Gyagyagya!” (Goblin)

At that moment, multiple goblins appeared.

Not just one or two.

There were ten… No, even more than that.

“A horde!” (??)

“Don’t panic! I’ll cut them all down!” (Snail)

“““Gigyagyagya!””” (Goblins)

With horrifying screams, the goblins charged all at once.

Snail and the others met them head-on. Leon hurriedly hid behind a tree. All he could do was hold his breath and watch the fierce battle unfold before him. In terms of numbers, the goblins had the advantage, but Snail and his group, superior in individual strength, were still holding their own. Especially with Snail cutting down one goblin per swing, the battle was clearly turning in their favor.

“…Huh?” (Leon)

At that moment, noticing something, Leon doubted his own eyes.

Beyond the thick foliage in front of him… There stood a massive goblin, nearly two meters tall. For a moment, he thought it was just an illusion. But no. It was undoubtedly a goblin several times larger than usual, walking calmly toward them.

The others, too focused on their fight, hadn’t noticed yet. Leon immediately tried to warn them, but… his eyes met the giant goblin’s, and he was frozen in fear.

“Ugoaaaaaah!” (Ogre)

Instead, the one who alerted the others to its presence was the enormous goblin itself, letting out a thunderous roar.

“What the…?” (Snail)

“A-An ogre!?” (??)

Apparently, it wasn’t a goblin, but an ogre.
