Kai’s Daily Life
“Alright, everyone, halt all work and take a break. Tell those working elsewhere as well.” (Kai)
Since my stomach announced it was lunchtime, I stopped the land reclamation work and took a break.
Speaking of which, I remembered the Demon King mentioning something about a clock. Well, from what I heard, it seemed complicated and couldn’t be made, so the crafting was left to the Goblins. We just needed to till the land, plant, and harvest. Since a lot of the outsiders had come in, we needed to expand continuously.
Just then…
“Can you grow this?” (Nobunaga)
What was handed to me was the blue fruit that the Demon King often ate. I knew it well; it grew in the Great Forest of Owa. It seemed he wanted to make something called Kajuen out of it. I didn’t fully understand, but it was likely something useful. What the Demon King said was usually something I couldn’t comprehend. Previously, when I consulted him about the crops not growing well after the land reclamation…
“Are there worms in the Great Forest of Owa?” (Demon King)
At first, I wondered why he was asking that. When I answered that there were, the conversation shifted to capturing them. Fortunately, one of the Hobgoblins had the profession of trainer, so I accompanied him, and the Demon King himself went to capture them in the Great Forest of Owa. Of course, I was allowed to join.
While searching, monsters occasionally attacked us, but the Demon King crushed them all with unseen power. When we arrived at the water’s edge, where worms were expected to be, the evolved Forest Worm suddenly appeared. It was presumably the parent of the regular worms. Even the Demon King seemed surprised by its length and quickly crushed it. Even though it was a monster, the fact that the Demon King could kill something on par with me while surprised is astonishing. Then, when we released the captured worms into the poorly growing field, it improved dramatically, though not dramatically enough to say it was miraculous.
I couldn’t understand the reason, either. However, I knew that the Demon King acted with a thorough understanding of the details. If I could grow this, it would surely be beneficial.
But think about it. The fruit can be found in the forest if searched for. Have I ever grown it before? No, I haven’t. Growing crops is tough. That’s something we know best. Still, it’s a direct request from the Demon King, and there’s no way I can refuse.
“I will do my utmost to try.” (Kai)
I can’t say I can do it. I’ve never done it before. Growing crops and trees are different.
“It doesn’t matter how many years it takes. I’m counting on you.” (Nobunaga)
First, I ate about 30 of the fruits to collect seeds. It wasn’t that I was eating them because I wanted to. I wouldn’t deny they were tasty, though.
Next were the conditions for germination, but the other demons might have known this. After all, it was a fruit that grew around here. There might have been something like, “It sprouted when I ate it and spat out the seeds”. Fortunately, the actual plants were growing outside. The environment was the same, so it shouldn’t have been too difficult. However, how foolish I was to think like that was proven almost immediately. Not a single seed I planted sprouted.
The reason is unknown; I can’t believe there’s a problem with the environment since it’s almost identical to outside. So, could there be an issue with the seeds? I planted many, and none sprouted. So that’s not it. Then what could it be? There must be some special conditions. Although it looks the same outside and inside the dungeon, something must be lacking.
After that, Kai began researching the fruit, but it would still take time before results appeared.

Rin’s Daily Life
The Lizardmen were a brave race. They had sharp fangs and hard scales. They could also swim. On the other hand, they were not skilled at crafting and wouldn’t even think about farming. They were a race specialized in combat. Thus, they were ordered by the Demon King to defend the dungeon and go hunting outside. They were split half for hunting and half for defending the dungeon, but rarely did anyone try to raid the dungeon, so they trained daily.
“Alright, let’s take a break. Everyone should hydrate.” (Alice)
The Lizardmen, who had been exhausted to the point of not being able to respond after Alice’s training, collapsed on the ground.
Alice’s training was extremely simple. Running and practicing swings, then everyone took turns sparring against Alice. Endurance was crucial in any endeavor. It was important for swinging swords and spears, maintaining focus, and moving. Practicing swings was also important. By repeating the same motion many times, they became more refined and efficient. In practice, unnecessary movements could cost lives.
Practical training was essential. If they couldn’t show the results of their training, then the training had no meaning. Because they understood the significance of training, Rin and the other Lizardmen kept striving without giving up. Rin, who recovered quickly, crawled to drink water. Her appearance resembled that of a snake or a crocodile.
She stuck her face into the water, opening her mouth to drink the water that flowed in. However, since the water level in the water source didn’t change, Rin, now recovered enough to walk, still carried her fallen comrades to the water’s edge.
“Hm? Let me help.” (Alice)
Noticing Rin carrying his comrades, Alice picked up a few Lizardmen and effortlessly tossed them into the water. This surprised Rin, who stared wide-eyed. It wasn’t because he was worried about her comrades, they weren’t weak enough to drown.
So why?
Because the training area was near the door leading to the throne room. The training area wasn’t fundamentally fixed. Usually, they decided on it while running. This way, they didn’t get accustomed to one spot and could gain various experiences when doing practical training.
It was a very good spot, to be sure. In fact, everyone had been motivated today, thinking they might be seen by the Demon King. That said, they had no intention of making noise right in front of the door. It would be noisy, and there was a chance they would get scolded. However, unaware of Rin’s feelings, Alice continued to throw the Lizardmen into the water as if they were mere branches.
“Ah, Alice-sensei!” (Rin)
“What? Is it bad to throw them?” (Alice)
She throws the lizardman she was holding and turns her body toward Rin.
“No, it’s just that we’re in front of the throne room, so we should keep it down a bit. It might trouble the Demon King.” (Rin)
“Ahahaha! It doesn’t matter, he won’t come out anyway!” (Alice)
Alice laughed heartily. Seeing the figure behind her, Rin silently stepped back.
“Oh? You’re considering showing your face outside for the messenger?” (Nobunaga)
Ugh, as Alice tried to turn around with a groan, she was slammed to the ground before she could do so. There was no sign of her moving.
“Now then, the instructor has fallen, but we can’t continue the training without her… Rin, have you ever participated in a tournament before?” (Nobunaga)
“I’m sorry, I don’t understand. What is a tournament?” (Rin)
“I see, you don’t know. Simply put, it’s a battle to decide who is the strongest. So, how about we hold one today? How many of you are there?” (Nobunaga)
As he asked for the number, Nobunaga quickly wrote down a table. Rin also understood what a tournament was upon seeing that.
It was a table for distinguishing differences. There was a significant difference between losing in the first round and losing in the second round. Moreover, as one went higher, the number of participants decreased. Having a distinction made it easier to put in effort. It allowed them to focus more on training. Furthermore, that day, the Demon King was the host. Everyone was putting in their all to show their brave appearance to the Demon King.
Of course, Rin was among them, and that day’s tournament ended with Rin winning overwhelmingly. After that, Alice occasionally held tournaments, and the results became the rankings within the Lizardmen.
