Sword Saint Attacks

Nearly two months had passed since the incident of the annihilation of the knights’ order. During that time, various things had happened.
An increase in subordinates. The fact that the Knights had entered the forest had spread among the surrounding Demons. So, using the Kobolds, I spread the word about the annihilation of the Knights, and as expected, Demons began to gather in the settlement seeking refuge.
At first, I was worried that confusion might arise, but it ended up going smoothly with the expansion of the fields and the settlement without any major chaos. There were several reasons for this.
One reason was that among those who already lived there, several had reached the Rank 2. The only ones in the settlement who had reached the Rank 2 were the leaders. There might even be some settlements without any Rank 2 individuals. Another reason was that there were those who held names, given to them by the Demon King. I didn’t know this, but it seems that receiving a name was also a sign of gaining a certain level of trust. It would be appropriate to think of them as executives.
By the way. The Hobgoblin wished to become skilled, so he was named “Hide”. The Kobold Leader wished to be loyal, so he was named “Shiba”. The Bull Orc wished to become strong, so he was named “Kai”. The Lizard Commander wished to be courageous, so he was named “Rin”. The Big Slime wished to eat a lot, so he was named “Vi”. Arachne wished to always be close, so she was named “Ran”.
They surprisingly seemed pleased. I only modified or changed names that came to mind based on their requests for ease of calling. Additionally, I assigned roles to them to organize the whole group.
I had Hide gather skilled individuals and take charge of making tools like shovels and weapons like bows. Once everyone got accustomed to creating things, I planned to join in as well.
I entrusted Shiba with reconnaissance and security around the area. However, they were still in the process of training, and it wasn’t completed yet. Those with free hands were being tasked with finding suitable locations for a quarry for the stone walls, but the results had been unsatisfactory.
I had entrusted Kai with many individuals. They were struggling with cultivation, but thanks to my advice, they succeeded in capturing and utilizing worms that lived in the forest. This apparently improved the yield along with the cultivation.
I had entrusted Lin with the rowdy ones. If they had excess strength, I wanted them to help with combat. When I inspected, it was common to find Lin and others collapsed during Alice’s training. It seemed there was even a movement to deify Alice among some. It made me wondered why.
I had them keep the Slimes together and tasked them with cleaning the dungeon. I believe they have contributed the most among them. Nobody wanted to deal with that.
Ran had somehow become something like my secretary. She provided reports on the overall progress and assisted me. However, she still lacked knowledge, and she often made mistakes in predictions and calculations, so I had to teach her various things each time. It was understandable since, among Demons, they likely never do calculations in the four or five digits. Thanks to that, I couldn’t shut myself away in my private room.
Speaking of my private room, Alice has been acting strangely lately. After her training, she began going outside the dungeon to practice. When I asked her why she was outside, she loudly replied, “I-I’m a substitute gatekeeper!”. She must have been excited since she heard it during her training. I should be cautious from now on.
Another thing would be the large number of quests completed. The quests completed were similar to “Add to your Subordinates” and “Add to your Subordinates II”, with only the numbers differing in content. To think I had completed over 10 quests just from increasing my subordinates and hunting other races was surprising. Thanks to that, I acquired a decent amount of food and weapons. I also obtained some skills, albeit just barely.
The skills I acquired were “Automatic Recovery” and “Temperature Regulation”.
“Automatic Recovery” consumes mana to gradually heal wounds. If I only lightly injure my fingertips, it takes about 10 seconds. I don’t know about larger injuries, but I won’t overestimate it. Well, in the dungeon, most wounds heal overnight if I just sleep.
The other one is “Temperature Regulation”. Yeah, it’s probably a skill possessed by temperature-dependent monsters. This also consumes mana to raise and lower body temperature. I realize the skill obtained is random.
Speaking of skills, I had accumulated quite a bit of magic essence thanks to the annihilation of the Knights. Until now, I had only acquired “Demon Language” when Orgia visited and “Human Language” after Orgia left. I was uncertain about what to acquire next, but I decided to save it. The reason is that the skills I could obtain were all weak, and there were still various language skills. If that race came, it would be impossible to communicate if I didn’t have any magical essence. It’s not that I’m stingy.
What else…? Oh, it seems someone has arrived.

(POV switch – Alice)
“Sei! Sei!” (Alice)
I swung my sword, thinking about how to cut as Shishou had taught me. I didn’t need strength, nor did I need speed. I just needed to cut, that was all.
The imaginary enemy was a silver-gray Demon King dressed in black. I could easily cut a yellow-brown clay Demon King, but with this one, no matter how much I swung, I couldn’t see a form to cut. No matter if I aimed vertically, horizontally, with thrusts, at the neck, hands, fingers, or feet, I felt like I couldn’t injure it at all. That was why the practice swings after training against Demons felt extraordinarily focused. There was a clear wall to overcome.
Shishou once complained about wanting an opponent he couldn’t cut, and now I understood why. I hadn’t realized how important it was to have an opponent you couldn’t cut.
“Sei!” (Alice)
With a fierce slash fueled by spirit. No matter who the opponent was, it was a strike intended to cut, yet I still couldn’t cut the Demon King.
…I’m tired. I’ll wash off the sweat once and then do it again—!
What I felt was the pressure of someone with immense power entering the forest. The birds that had chirped during my training suddenly fell silent, and even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
A fierce killing intent was radiating, approaching straight towards me at a speed surpassing that of a horse. Naturally, I found myself readying my sword against it. The opponent was stronger than me, and exponentially so. Sweat dripped down my cheek, but I wanted to believe it was from training. Then, it finally crossed into the forest and approached at a terrifying speed.
“Gaaah!!” (Alice)
A powerful blow. If I hadn’t been prepared, I wouldn’t have been able to react to that speed.
“Sei!” (Alice)
I pushed back with my entire body. What had attacked me was—
“Shishou!?” (Alice)
The figure of Shishou, whom I would never forget. In his right hand was a legendary weapon, and in his left was one of the knights I had let escape.
“Alice! Have you become a bit stronger? Those practice swings earlier were quite impressive!” (Volt)
He shouldn’t have been able to see me since he hadn’t yet entered the forest. No, it’s Shishou, so it’s probably pointless to think about it.
“Shishou, you must have had a forced march. Only I could withstand that, so please don’t involve the ordinary Knights.” (Alice)
“Mm? Oh, yes, I asked for a guide. To think a rookie Knight would give up halfway is just unacceptable.” (Volt)
He would have likely made it here even without the guide, I thought while trying to lower my sword, but then I noticed something strange. Despite Shishou casually discarding the Knight, he still hadn’t shown any signs of sheathing his sword.
“Oh, well done, Alice. If you had sheathed your sword, I would have knocked you away.” (Volt)
Laughing heartily, he gripped his sword with both hands and instantly released a malicious aura.
“Now, Alice, shall we have a practical training session after a long time? Let’s see how much stronger you’ve become!” (Volt)
