Sword Saint Volt Kash

If one were to ask the citizens of the kingdom who the strongest human was, they would all unanimously name one person. Volt Kash.

In the corner of the royal capital, there was a large training ground. The style practiced there was called the Kash style. The reason it existed in the royal capital was that the king bowed his head and requested it. The reason it was located in the corner was that the nobles feared its existence and kept their distance. The reason it was large was that many people seek to learn from it. In the training ground, there were those who have just become swordsmen or are beginners aiming to become swordsmen.

From those who realize that skill alone won’t get them further and seek to gain technique, to advanced practitioners. A wide range of people came. However, among them, very few could receive teachings from the master, Volt. Most were taught by substitute instructors who had levels exceeding 100.

But then, some idiot will say, “I came to ask Volt for his teachings, not you!”. One of the duties of the substitute instructors was to beat down such fools. However, about five years ago, there was a woman who, in turn, defeated the substitute instructors. She went by the name of Alice.

Kash was ecstatic. The substitute instructors were certainly not weak. They had come when the training ground was first established and were fortunate enough to receive Kash’s teachings. However, in Kash’s mind, while they had become Rank 1, there was still something lacking, and they had hit a wall, unable to progress.

To have defeated them meant that Alice had the potential to reach the same level as him. Kash imparted all his techniques onto Alice. Wake up and train, eat and train, train before bed. Sometimes they would go out for practical experience. It was a time of unprecedented joy. The bundle of talent that was Alice absorbed Kash’s teachings like dry sand, immediately reflecting them back like a mirror. However, that joyful period came to an end a few months ago.

Alice had set off to test her skills by hunting down the Demon King lurking in the neighboring nations. Kash wanted to accompany her. But he thought better of it and stopped. If the Demon King were a strong one, he might cut her down before she could act. He had enough confidence to be unable to bear it. Watching Alice leave on her journey alone, Kash meditated in the training ground’s annex and made a decision.

If Alice returned as a strong warrior, he would challenge her to a serious duel. And he would cut her down. The reason Kash had established the training ground was to create a strong warrior who could potentially kill him, so he could cut them down. It was the last resort that the ‘Sword Saint’ had devised after losing a worthy opponent.

Now, what is Volt doing? Officially, he was said to be meditating in the annex, but—

“……I’m so bored.” (Kash)

He was feeling dull. Before, he had enjoyed training Alice, but now there was no one to spar with. If he were to teach his disciples, he felt no motivation after having seen the bundle of talent that was Alice.

As a result, he found himself bored in the annex. He wasn’t doing nothing. He was training to keep his body in shape, ensuring it wouldn’t rust. With his white hair and beard giving off an impression of age and a slightly shorter stature, his body was pure muscle. The scars on his face reminded one of fierce battles with strong foes.

The rigorous training, which was extraordinary for a normal person, felt lacking in intensity compared to his training with Alice, and nothing about it was enjoyable. He felt like he might die from boredom. At that moment…

“Um, nice to meet you. I am Lyle, an adventurer. I actually have a letter from Alice-dono—” (Lyle)

In the blink of an eye, Volt swiftly snatched the letter from Lyle and began reading it. Then…

“…Ha, ahhahahahaha! Good! Truly wonderful! I never expected this would happen! Ahhahahahaha!” (Volt)

He laughed heartily, seeming deeply moved.

Lyle, although he hadn’t seen the contents, had an inkling of what was inside. Therefore, he couldn’t understand this reaction.

“Um, it’s about the Demon King that appeared in the Great Forest of Owa, right?” (Lyle)

Having lost the ability to maintain his stiff demeanor, Lyle asked in a relaxed tone. In response, Volt wore a child-like smile.

“That’s correct. It says that there’s a Demon King here that even Alice couldn’t cut. It also mentions various other things, but essentially, it’s asking me to cut down this Demon King, right? A Demon King that even Alice could not injure.” (Volt)

He couldn’t help but laugh. The strong warrior he created had lured in another strong warrior. And it was one that his own creation couldn’t even lay a finger on.

“You! Since you brought this letter, it means you know where she is, right?” (Volt)

“Y-yes!” (Lyle)

“Then, lead the way!” (Volt)

With his sword held in his left hand and the guide in his right.

“Um, I need to prepare for the journey.” (Lyle)

“No need! As long as I have a sword, I can go anywhere!” (Volt)

And with that, Volt burst out of the training ground and the royal capital.
