Knights VS Demon King

(POV switch – Bach)
Should I say it’s fortunate, or should I say it’s luck?
The dungeon door was large enough to enter even while mounted. However, the width wasn’t that much, so it could only accommodate one person at a time. Inside the dungeon was a forest. It was the same forest we had just traversed. The area near the door was still open, but a little distance away, there were only thickets. Judging that it was dangerous to act alone, I decided to wait for my subordinates to come out from the door instead of carelessly sending out scouts.
“After finally getting through the forest and climbing the hill, we’re back in the forest again! How annoying!” (Lyle)
Who is saying such trivial things!?
I glared, and as expected, it was Lyle. How annoying that he was saying it from a distance where my fist couldn’t reach. I wanted to yell at him to come over, but this was already the Demon King’s territory, so I hesitated to raise my voice.
Struggling to suppress my shaking fist in anger, I suddenly came up with an idea as I watched the Knights entering one by one.
“Lyle, go scout the area. And return before all the Knights gather. Understood?” (Bach)
“Ugh, that’s super scary… Y-yeah, yeah.” (Lyle)
Shut up, I glared at him with my eyes, and Lyle, seeming to have no choice, got off his horse and hurried into the forest. Annoyingly, he went in the opposite direction from where I was.
After a little while, the Knights all entered. However, Lyle still hadn’t returned.
“Captain Bach, it’s about time we took action.” (Knight)
“No, wait. We’ll stand by until Lyle returns.” (Me)
If I have sent another member for reconnaissance, I would have assumed something went wrong and taken action. But Lyle is different. He is a former adventurer. His instincts in this area are better than ours, and if something were to happen, he would surely inform us in some way. So for now, waiting is the best course of action rather than sending out more scouts or moving carelessly—.
“Ga-Gaou!” (Kobold)
“Captain, there are Kobolds ahead!” (Knight)
How audacious! Did they think they could take us down with a surprise attack!?
Three kobolds suddenly jumped out from the thicket. They were faster than regular kobolds, but still not fast enough. As soon as they came within the range of my spear, I prepared to skewer them, but perhaps sensing my presence, the Kobolds aimed for me and swiftly turned back just at the edge of my reach. The other Kobolds also made a hit on the Knights before turning back and escaping into the thicket they had come from.
I won’t let them escape easily!
“Don’t let them get away! Chase them!” (Bach)
Don’t think that mere kobolds can outrun the speed of horses!
The Knights, excluding Lyle, chased after the Kobolds and entered the forest. Due to the roots and the uneven ground, we couldn’t gain much speed, but we gradually got closer to the Kobolds. Just as we were about to enter spear range and skewer them, the forest suddenly ended. And then, a depression opened up before us. Unable to stop the momentum of the horses, we fell into the depression and were thrown off.
“Nuah! Gah, geff!” (Knight)
What just happened!?
Looking back, I saw my horse had fallen, and at my feet was white thread. It seemed I had tripped over it, causing the horse to fall and throw me off. Looking around, many of my subordinates were similarly down, some even unable to move.
We were set up! By the Kobolds and, no doubt, the demon lord behind them.
ortunately, only about half of us fell into this depression. The other half had noticed the depression and managed to stop. If the Knights above can remain calm, they might come to our rescue.
“What are you doing, you fools! Hurry and come help!” (??)
My shout echoed through the forest. My voice should be familiar to my subordinates. But I hadn’t said anything. The impact of the fall had struck my chest hard enough that I couldn’t even speak properly.
Then, who was it? It was the Demon King, it must have been the demon lord’s doing.
“Gah! Guh!” (??)
A trap! Even if I tried to shout, I couldn’t form the words properly. In the meantime, my panicking subordinates dismounted and tripped over the white threads. Those who noticed the trap managed to dismount but only about 50 of them did.
“Captain, are you alright!?” (Knight)
“Flee—” (Bach)
The entire Knights had already fallen into the depression.
I don’t know what they were thinking, but the Demon King must have aimed for this. That thought was confirmed when something black and ominous fell from above into the depression.
“Nice to meet you, knights of the Margrave Huster. I am the Demon King Nobunaga.” (Nobunaga)
It was the Demon King. Clad in a pitch-black hat and long coat. From the gaps in his clothing, I could see his silver-gray skin.
“Thank you for coming all this way. You must be tired, right? You can rest, for eternity.” (Demon King)
Immediately afterward, a rain of arrows began to fall from above.
