Tyr and Casablanca

With the conclusion of the Warden Household being “to send troops”, Tyr quickly returned to the royal capital.

“Your Majesty Casablanca. This is the collective will of the Warden Household. We would like you to declare war on the Kali Kingdom.” (Tyr)

Tyr, who visited Casablanca in her private chamber, presented a request document with the names of Yanna, Tyr, Arc, and Minerva, pressing his demand.

“I express my condolences and sympathy for the many excellent merchants you have lost. However, suddenly declaring war… well…” (Casablanca)

Suddenly, a general appeared in her private chamber and presented a request to initiate a war. For Casablanca, this was an entirely unexpected demand, and her response was hesitant.

“Declaring war over the killing of a few merchants would cause alarm among neighboring countries. Therefore, to be honest, I’m not very enthusiastic about it.” (Casablanca)

“I’m surprised.” (Tyr)

Tyr sarcastically pointed out that Casablanca had somehow become a pacifist.

“You seem like a completely different person from when you invaded the Lureid Kingdom. This is what we call double standards.” (Tyr)

When the incident with the Lureid Kingdom occurred, she swiftly launched a military invasion, resulting in the loss of the high-ranking officials, the Tadont couple. Despite this, now she was making excuses and hesitating to attack the Kali Kingdom. Tyr found this unacceptable.

“The Lureid Kingdom to the east has traditionally been hostile to our country. That’s why I took the opportunity to invade. On the other hand, our relationship with the Kali Kingdom has been neither good nor bad for many years.” (Tyr)

“Even so! The Kali Kingdom killed our merchants. Isn’t that a clear act of hostility?” (Tyr)

“Our country is tired from years of fighting. Isn’t it time to focus a bit more on domestic affairs?” (Casablanca)

Casablanca evaded Tyr’s demands with vague responses.

Tyr’s anger began to rise in response to her ambiguous attitude.

“Are you saying that, even though members of the Warden Household have been killed, Your Majesty Casablanca has no intention of doing anything?” (Tyr)

If it had been Arc, he might have been able to persuade the unenthusiastic Casablanca with eloquent words. However, Tyr was straightforward and military-minded. He pressed for clarity from Casablanca regarding her ambiguous attitude.

“Tyr. Isn’t that a bit rude?” (Casablanca)

Casablanca reacted to Tyr’s stern tone, and a tense air flowed between the two.

“Well, well.” (Fran)

The 1st Unit, Fran, hurriedly intervened to stop them.

She stood up and pushed Casablanca back into her chair while also pushing back against Tyr, who was advancing.

“General Tyr, as you may know, the cost of neglecting politics and being consumed by battles against hostile forces is now upon us. Your Majesty Casablanca is very busy dealing with that. At this point, we simply do not have the luxury to invade foreign lands.” (Fran)

It seemed that Casablanca had no intention of personally leading an invasion of the Kali Kingdom.

Of course, they had thought of alternative ways to handle this situation. Tyr pressed his demands as if it were only natural.

“Then, please grant me the authority to conscript soldiers and requisition supplies. I will gather troops and resources by myself and invade the Kali Kingdom alone. This way, I won’t trouble Your Majesty.” (Tyr)

Fran’s face twisted with a forced smile at the demand for military authority.

“What did you say!?” (Casablanca)

As Casablanca rose in astonishment, Fran held her back with her body.

While holding Casablanca back, she calmly replied to Tyr.

“General Tyr, please step outside for a moment. I will share your request with the ministers and consider it positively.” (Fran)

“To give you military authority? How audacious.” (Casablanca)

After Tyr left the room, Casablanca immediately began to grumble.

Military authority was one of the great powers held by the king. With it, one could issue any orders to the military. Demanding this great power was extremely rude, and it is only natural to suspect military ambition. For Casablanca, who was wary of the Warden Household, there was no reason to grant such authority. However, Fran’s thoughts were the exact opposite of Casablanca’s.

“Your Majesty Casablanca. We should grant him military authority.” (Fran)

“Fran. What are you thinking!?” (Casablanca)

Casablanca, who had planned to refuse Tyr’s request, was taken aback by Fran’s proposal. However, Fran calmly questioned the astonished Casablanca.

“Let me ask you this. What are you so wary of, Your Majesty Casablanca?” (Fran)

“Well, if I give military authority to Tyr, he can conscript soldiers as he pleases. The already distressed citizens of the kingdom would become even more discontented!” (Casablanca)

The authority of conscription allowed one to issue orders to turn citizens into soldiers.

Fran had thoroughly researched Tyr. Understanding the dynamics of their own kingdom was a natural duty for a member of the queen’s guard. Thus, she could predict to some extent Tyr’s way of fighting, aesthetics, and thought processes.

“I’m sure General Tyr will not conduct a large-scale conscription.” (Fran)

“How can you say that with such certainty?” (Casablanca)

She believed that Tyr would not do what Casablanca was worried about—”use the authority of conscription to exhaust the citizens”. The basis for this belief lay in his way of fighting.

“Have you ever seen General Tyr’s way of fighting, Your Majesty Casablanca?” (Fran)

“I have fought alongside him on the battlefield, but I have never paid attention to his fighting style.” (Casablanca)

“The army led by General Tyr is small but elite. Typically, it consists of a few thousand, at most 20000. He utilizes the overwhelming quality of his soldiers to execute mobile attacks, overwhelming enemy forces that rely on numbers. That is his fighting style.” (Fran)

“I see. I didn’t know that.” (Casablanca)

“Would such a general conscript inexperienced peasant soldiers?” (Fran)

“Indeed! That would be the worst match for his army.” (Casablanca)

Conscripting peasant soldiers would yield low morale and make them ineffective. For Tyr, who seek high quality in soldiers rather than quantity, such soldiers would be useless.

“Even though the general is asking for military authority, it is unlikely he would actually conscript soldiers.” (Fran)

“I understand now.” (Casablanca)

Casablanca nodded in agreement with Fran’s explanation.

“I understand. Bring Tyr back! I will grant him military authority and order him to set out for the Kali Kingdom.” (Casablanca)
