Demon King’s Interview

Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

According to them, there has never been a Demon King who pays such attention to his subordinates. That’s strange, isn’t it? It’s true that this is my first time having subordinates, and I do want to take care of them, but I don’t think I’ve been so overly attentive to the point of tears.

Ensuring a stable food supply is, of course, essential. It’s the responsibility of someone in a position of authority. If, by any chance, I were to let my subordinates starve, look at that, my head would be flying off due to a rebellion. Since I can’t always be in my Defensive Combat Stance (Tungsten Body), it’s important for my safety.

It’s also efficient to divide them according to their aptitudes based on their special abilities. How could I make a slime, a gelatinous creature, do agriculture? Besides, there are multiple races here. I think it would be good if we can complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

And so, I conducted one-on-one interviews. The interviews were held in the throne room. The waiting group was left to kill time in their private rooms.

In the case of Alice, the Swordsman…

“…My strengths, huh? I’m good at wielding a sword, but it got broken. Well, I can hunt at least. If I use my Sword Hand technique, I can cut monsters into six pieces.” (Alice)

“You don’t need to hunt. I’ll leave that to someone else. What I want to ask is, can you only wield a sword? Are you unable to handle a spear or bow?” (Nobunaga)

“I was forced by Shishou (Master) to learn how to use various weapons, but compared to a sword, I’m barely competent.” (Alice)

“If you can handle them, that’s fine. You will be in charge of combat training from now on. I’ll have a few soldiers from each race trained. Teach them how to use spears or bows. If you can’t handle those, anything else will work, but it would be better if it’s one of these two. As for the sword, I’ll give you one to use later. Well, it’s an adventurer’s relic, but…” (Demon King Nobunaga)

“Understood. I’ll make sure to teach spears and bows thoroughly. As for the sword, I won’t mind that it’s a relic. If there’s a body and it’s usable, I’ll use it too.” (Alice)

“I see. Then that’s all. …Ah, I almost forgot to ask. Do you have a magic bag? The kind that can store various things.” (Nobunaga)

“Ah, that…” (Alice)

“I dropped it while raiding a few villages. Ahahaha.” (Alice)

…You foolish girl!”

In the case of Hobgoblin…

The characteristic green skin of the evil goblins. Its height surpassed that of the small goblin and was slightly above mine. Its body also looked somewhat muscular.

 Is that just my imagination?

“Nice to meet you, Demon King-sama. I’m glad to be able to meet you like this—” (Hobgoblin)

“Ah, enough of that. I have a few questions for you. First, what are the strengths of your race? Also, did you bring anything from your previous settlement? I don’t think you came empty-handed.” (Nobunaga)

“As for strengths, I can’t think of anything immediately, so let me tell you about what we brought. We brought seeds and a few self-defense spears. They’re currently in the settlement, so we don’t have them with us.” (Hobgoblin)

“I see. If you have them, bring them later. Now, as for your strengths, I can’t expect an answer right away. Hmm, are you good with your hands? If so, I would like your help with weapon-making and construction.” (Demon King Nobunaga)

“I humbly accept.” (Hobgoblin)

In the case of Kobold Leader…

It was literally a two-legged dog. Compared to a group of Kobolds, its gaze was sharp, and its body was over twice as large.

Perhaps it’s just my impression, but its fur seemed to be harder as well.

“Well, this is the first time we’re facing each other and speaking. I apologize for always burdening you with the troublesome task of carrying messages.” (Nobunaga)

“Not at all. If given an order, I’ll make sure to accomplish it no matter what.” (Kobold Leader)

“I’m glad to hear that. Now, I want you to take on the role of messenger. Give me the three of your fastest runners. I want them to take on an important mission of repelling the knights. Also, occasionally check on the condition of the Great Forest of Owa. Well, it’ll be a rather quiet job of delivering messages and reconnaissance, but will you accept?” (Nobunaga)

“As you command.” (Kobold Leader)

In the case of Bull Orc…

As soon as it entered, the air in the throne room seemed to be polluted, as if something had changed. The stench. The body odor of the Bull Orc was so strong that it gave me a headache. I planned to come up with some excuse later to have him take a bath.

“I’m Deke, Demon King-sama, pleased to meet you.” (Deke)

“So you’re named. I’m Nobunaga, the Demon King. Now, as for your work,” (Nobunaga)

“About that, Demon King-sama, we are skilled in agriculture. If we use our noses, we can detect evil places, and when we go outside, we often find rare things.” (Deke)

“I see. Since you know that much, there’s nothing more to say. I’ll give you some seeds. Grow them well.” (Nobunaga)

“As you wish.” (Deke)

In the case of Lizardman Commander…

This was my first time seeing the Lizardman Commander in detail, and he was someone who created an unusually tense atmosphere by himself. Every step he took seemed like it had a meaningful purpose, and it was mentally exhausting to face him.

“Now, as for you, can you bring water? If you can, I want you to investigate the water quality outside and inside. Otherwise, I plan to have you work with the Orc in agriculture. Is that alright?” (Nobunaga)

“Understood.” (Lizardman Commander)

In the case of Big Slime…

The biggest question was whether it could even talk. However, since it’s a demon, if it can speak the demon language, it must be able to talk, right?

As I was waiting, expecting how it would speak, bubbles formed inside the big slime and then burst out from its body.
“Nice to meet you.” (Big Slime)

A slightly high-pitched voice, like a boy’s, emerged.

“Interesting. I didn’t know that slime creatures spoke like this. I’m curious, but first, what are your special traits?” (Nobunaga)

“We can melt anything. That’s what we eat.” (Big Slime)

“Really? Can you melt grass and iron?” (Nobunaga)

“If we can melt it, we can eat it. We don’t have any particular likes or dislikes.” (Big Slime)

“I see. I’m sorry, but I may have you handle the disposal of waste products. I hope you don’t mind.” (Nobunaga)

“Not at all. We get plenty to eat.” (Big Slime)

“Is that so? If you’re saying that, then I’m grateful.” (Nobunaga)

In the case of Arachne…

The spider people, known as Arachnids, had the lower body of a spider and the upper body of a beautiful woman, but when it came to the Arachne, the beauty became more alluring, and she exudes an attractiveness that stirred lust in all who gaze upon her.

As soon as the succubus spider entered, she immediately handed me a white thread.

“Demon King-sama, if you would accept this. It’s the thread of the Arachnids. It can only be harvested by them, and it has high durability and resistance to cutting, making it very difficult to break. However, it’s weak to heat and melts easily.” (Arachne)

I received it and, pulling on it to test its durability, was amazed that it didn’t tear. It was truly strong. With this, I might be able to make something.

“Arachne, could I have a bit more of this thread? Once I make something, your job will be decided, so wait for now.” (Nobunaga)

This thread might be the most valuable harvest.

And so, the interview for that day concluded.
