Demon King’s Subordinates

When I returned to the settlement, the number of demons had decreased to less than half, but they had stayed longer than I expected.
“Everyone other than the leaders of the various races can act freely. The leaders, come with me.” (Nobunaga)
The remaining races were led by the medium size hobgoblins leading the small goblins, the Kobold Leader leading the pack of Kobolds, the Orcs and their leader, Bull Orc, the Lizardmen and their central Lizardman Commander, the various sizes of slimes with one noticeably larger Big Slime, and the arachnids led by the spiderkin, Arachne.
There were a total of twelve species and six races, about three hundred individuals. All were in the Rank 1 and the leaders were in the Rank 2. The Rank 3 wasn’t seen even among the group that left.
As I thought, there are no Orgia-level individuals. It would have been reassuring if they were here.
“Then, everyone, stay here. Only the leaders, come with me.” (Nobunaga)
I led the leaders of the various races back to the throne room. The leaders looked uneasy, nervously glancing around at the surroundings. They were seeing unfamiliar things, their faces mixing curiosity and fear.
As I watched them, I searched for Alice. She had been in the throne room before I left, but now she was nowhere to be seen. I panicked, thinking she had gone hunting on her own, but soon found her. She was sound asleep on the sofa in the private room. I could say she had high adaptability, but she was relaxing too much.
I lifted Alice from beneath as though cradling her and, using the technique of flipping a low table, sent her flying. She instantly woke up, quickly adjusting her posture. The movement was so elegant it reminded me she was a skilled swordswoman. It would have been even better if the sword she had drawn wasn’t broken.
“Alice, I have something to discuss about the future course of action, so come here. And don’t sleep on the sofa without permission.” (Nobunaga)
When I returned to the throne room, the demons greeted me with expressions of astonishment. I could understand their feelings. I was calmly commanding the invaders.
“This is my subordinate, the female swordswoman Alice. Please get along with her.” (Nobunaga)
“I am Alice. Nice to meet you.” (Alice)
I implied that the past should be forgotten. It wasn’t for Alice’s safety, but for theirs. Alice could probably defeat all of them if it came to that… well, if she had a proper sword… or maybe even without one.
Leaving the demons still in shock, I continued with the discussion.
“I have something to tell you all. Alice, tell them about the enemy that’s coming next.” (Nobunaga)
“Yes. Soon, the cavalry of the Margrave Houster’s Knights will likely come to this forest.” (Alice)
The faces of the demons changed from astonishment to fear. I couldn’t understand it, but apparently, they had someone to fear in that regard.
“How do you know?” (Lizard Commander)
The one who asked was the Lizard Commander. A bipedal lizard with blue scales, his posture was straight, and his demeanor was good. His voice sounded high-pitched, like something rubbing together, but as expected from a Rank 2 leader, his words flowed fluently.
“Because that’s the procedure. When news of a Demon King’s birth comes out, they send out reconnaissance to that area. The role of the reconnaissance is to locate the place and, if possible, confirm the race and abilities.
Then, they send in the main forces to defeat the Demon King. If the race and abilities are known, they’ll send in someone whose abilities are a good match, but since they don’t know in this case, the strongest nearby, which is me, was chosen.
If the main forces don’t return, they’ll resort to overwhelming numbers to try to defeat the Demon King. If they’re unable to overcome that, they’ll judge that they can’t win and begin fortifying their defenses. That’s the procedure for dealing with a Demon King.” (Alice)
As a Demon King, I didn’t like hearing about such measures. Upon asking, I learned that for the last ten-odd years, they’ve used this method to defeat every Demon King as soon as they were born.
“Now, back to the topic. The enemy is cavalry, and there will likely be about 800 of them. Since they’re soldiers of the Margrave Houster, their training should be fairly high.” (Alice)
We have about 300, including children and the elderly. It’s nearly a three-to-one difference.
“When will they arrive?” (Nobunaga)
“I’m not sure of the exact time, but since they’ll gather the knights and persuade those around them, it will probably take about a month.” (Alice)
“A month, huh.” (Nobunaga)
That’s longer than I expected. It looks like I’ll have quite a bit of time to prepare. No, maybe I’ll get bored.
Unlike me, the demons’ expressions were dark. Cavalry, a three-to-one difference, a month, if they thought simply, it would seem hopeless.
But only if they thought simply.
“Now, onto the next topic. Are any of you particularly skilled in farming? We have fields, but we only have these seeds. If anyone has more, I would appreciate it.” (Nobunaga)
“Please wait, Demon King-sama! Shouldn’t we focus on countering the Knights rather than farming!?”
The one who raised his voice was the Bull Orc. He had two impressive horns on his face, and his entire body was covered in brown fur. Standing nearly two meters tall, you’d think he’d be more composed.
“What are you talking about? We’re talking about cavalry, about 800 of them, entering the forest. And they won’t be here for another month. Preparing countermeasures can easily be done on the side. More importantly, farming. I have no intention of letting you all starve. I want you to focus on farming, which provides stable harvests, rather than relying on unstable things like hunting.
Of course, I don’t intend to only do farming. I will listen to the traits of your races and choose the most suitable activities. But to start with, it’s farming. In any situation, ensuring a stable food supply is important. Got it!?” (Nobunaga)
I’m just tired of living on a diet of fruit and meat! I want to eat vegetables!
I managed to redirect the passion that was bubbling up inside me into convincing them with words.
…Wait? Why are they crying?
