The Hardest Demon King

(POV switch – Alice)

My sword clearly struck above his head. At the perfect timing when the opponent couldn’t react, I used Slash, and the Demon King was supposed to be cut vertically in half. Yet now, the Demon King was standing there nonchalantly. Instead, the sword I held had broken.

What happened?

The sword I held snapped, and the Demon King, who just a moment ago had a shabby appearance with three holes in his face, had somehow changed into a jet-black hat and a long coat. The face visible from beneath the coat was now silver-gray.

I stood stunned for a moment. Quickly, I discarded the broken sword and activated Sword Hand. This was the advanced swordsman skill that allowed me to substitute my sword with my hand and still used the techniques of a swordsman. Of course, the attack power was weaker, but I didn’t care right now. After having my beloved sword destroyed, I had to strike back.

Slash, a single blow to sever the opponent, Cross, a high-speed double strike that inflicts a cross-shaped wound, Quick Rush, a combo of numerous thrusts.

The first strike would injure the opponent, and then more wounds would follow, and I would thrust into the overlapping wounds. No matter how tough the opponent, they would at least get injured. And from those small injuries, I would gradually build my victory.

Yes, that’s how it had been until now.

“…Monster.” (Alice)

The Demon King stood as though nothing had happened, completely unaffected by my series of strikes. In fact, I couldn’t even damage the Demon King’s clothes.

“You’re quite the rude one.” (Nobunaga)

Without any sign of care, the Demon King dismisses my words easily.

If the Demon King wanted to fight, I would lose. It probably wouldn’t even be a fight.

This Demon King was terrifyingly tough. It wasn’t that he was using skill-enhancing techniques or anything. It was that he could take my renowned sword head-on without even a scratch, and instead, the sword was broken. As a result, my arms were shattered. No, the Demon King didn’t do anything. My hands simply couldn’t endure the Demon King’s hardness and broke.

I could no longer use Sword Hand. The sword was broken, and my spirit was already on the verge of breaking as well.

“What will you do? Will you continue fighting?” (Nobunaga)

“Heh, fighting? I just played around and ended up destroying myself. You did nothing.” (Alice)

“Now that I think about it, that’s true. You see, this is the first time I’ve used this body. I was just checking how much damage it could endure. Seeing that even your fierce attacks don’t leave a scratch, it seems this tungsten body will be useful wherever I go.”

The Demon King laughed heartily, and I plunged into despair.

For him, everything until now had been an experiment. He had been testing how much damage his body could endure. I, too, have tried new weapons and gone hunting to test them. But the gap in strength was so vast that the Demon King could afford to speak casually or joke around.

“Well then, what will you do now?” (Nobunaga)

“What, will you kill me? …I’ve lost, do as you like. And if you kill me, the knights will come next.” (Alice)

“Oh? So, if the main force is defeated, you’ll bring more numbers. Is there anyone stronger than you among them?” (Nobunaga)

“No.” (Alice)

There couldn’t be. There’s no one among the knight squad who can surpass me. Those who only train and fight weaklings, handling small fry, never facing real challenges.

“Then, there’s no big problem. No matter how many come, it will just end without even a scratch on this body.” (Nobunaga)

That’s true. They couldn’t even damage me. I don’t think the weak knights will be able to do anything. The only one who could possibly hurt this Demon King would be the Sword Saint (Master).

“Then, let me ask you again, what will you do?” (Nobunaga)

“What will I do, you say? Just kill me. I’ve lost.” (Alice)

“You’re not going to waste your life like that. You can either become my subordinate or be imprisoned in this dungeon.” (Alice)

I stared at the Demon King in disbelief.

I’ve never heard of a Demon King trying to make humans his subordinates. From what I’ve heard, Demon Kings only trust their own kind. Even if they take others as subordinates, they send them to the front lines and attack any humans they come across. Yet, this Demon King before me is completely different. He has a sense of humanity, and he is both wise and strong.

“What do you want me to do?” (Alice)

“Various things. Well, right now, I’m short on manpower, so I plan to make you do anything.” (Nobunaga)

What to do… Wait for death locked up in here, or follow the Demon King and survive.

Without even needing time to think, my answer had already been decided.

“I understand, I, swordsman Alice. I will become the subordinate of Demon King Nobunaga.” (Alice)
