Demon King’s Salvation

Several weeks passed since I was alone again.
I spent my days mostly the same, picking fruits, reading books, wandering outside, occasionally dealing with weak monsters, collecting things, and using the books to study them. However, these days were not completely without purpose, as there were a few new discoveries and events.
One of them was the mysterious cloth bag the adventurers had. It seemed to be a magic item.
Its ability is the same as this book’s storage. It’s a convenient bag that can hold anything you put in as long as it doesn’t exceed its capacity by passing it through the opening.
When I looked at the items inside the bag, I found a variety of fantasy items. There were several colorful magic potions, emergency food supplies, various coins, a dissection knife, a guild card that seemed to be theirs, and many other things I had never seen before. Among them, what caught my attention was a map of the Great Forest of Owa.
Since I couldn’t read the text, I couldn’t understand all the details, but from the arrows and the overall vibe, it seemed like the original owner of the bag, the adventurer, had explored the eastern side of the Great Forest of Owa. There were arrows pointing toward the center and west as well, but since they weren’t written in detail, those might have been other adventurers’ routes.
One of the important pieces of information was the existence of a large town to the south. All the arrows seemed to be pointing north toward the Great Forest of Owa from this town. From the feel of the map, it seemed that there were towns in the north too, but nothing was written about them. It seemed that they didn’t share information with each other. At least three groups of adventurers were sent out in different directions, and if only one group doesn’t return, a new, stronger group would likely come.
While thinking about how to counter that, an event occurred that solved the issue. Visit from another race. The demon races living in this forest noticed my existence as the Demon Lord and came to greet me. A number of different races bowed as envoys, presenting various items to me, but from the trembling of the envoys, I could imagine that they were silently pleading not to be killed.
So, I greeted them in a friendly manner.
I had no intention of causing them harm, nor did I want to command them under my control. I was fine with them continuing to live freely as before. However, if they saw adventurers, they were to tell me. I also had to clear up any trouble that might come my way. In return, if they had any troubles, they could come to me, and I would do my best to solve them.
Most of the races seemed confused, unable to understand what I meant. That was understandable. They had come to plead for the guarantee of their lives, only to be told that help would be provided. However, none of the races directly questioned me. It seemed they would be fine as long as I didn’t interfere with them. Still, they would likely report back, so I wouldn’t be caught off guard if they changed their mind.
And so, many demons came to meet with me, but during this time, I discovered a certain function of the book. I could see their status. If I kept the page open and pointed the book at someone, their status would appear on that page. However, it wasn’t much. It only showed their name, race and rank, and occupation.
By the way, I could also view my own status.
<Name> No name
<Race Rank> Doppelganger King, Rank Four
<Occupation> Demon King
There wasn’t anything particularly new. The fact that “Demon King” was listed as an occupation was the only thing that stood out.
And now, I finally started expanding the dungeon. The reason was to prepare for the demon races seeking help, so I could place them under my protection, and also to make sure that adventurers couldn’t directly enter the throne room from the outside gate. However, the dungeon expansion turned out to be more complicated than expected.
First, I had to spend mysterious points called dungeon points to decide how large the expansion would be. These points seemed to be earned by completing quests. I hadn’t progressed much with the quests, but since I had some starting points, I used all of them and focused on expanding just one level to make it spacious.
Next, I had to decide on the terrain generation, which was the main part. There were options to create something like a miniaturized garden, or I could directly replicate the outside scenery. Since I was short on time, I chose the replication option. The reason was that the area became quite large, and it would be troublesome to change the living space drastically, so I made this choice out of consideration. It wasn’t because I wasn’t good at it.
Now, the scene displayed in the book resembled the Great Forest of Owa outside. I had already installed the entrance gate and the gate leading to the throne room, and I was building an empty village. I wasn’t going to just send them here and say, “Live as you like”, since that would be too cruel. I was creating homes for them.
This is the problem. How many homes should I prepare? I have made fields, but where would the water come from? The roads are getting too complicated. I have already redone things many times.
But finally, the hard work was nearing completion.
I had built several houses, cleared trees and rocks to make the land easier to cultivate, created a spring at a slightly distant location, and placed a watchtower in the center of the village. This would be safe and secure. It seemed that the more I built, the more dungeon points were consumed.
Just before I was about to create the dungeon, a pack of Kobolds covered in blood suddenly ran into the throne room.
And they shouted.
“Adventurers! They’ve arrived!”
They announced the arrival of enemies.
