The Kidnapping Incident of a Young Girl

Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

Who am I, and where am I headed? For the past three years, I have been struggling with my future, just like any child going through puberty. That struggle has been particularly significant for me. Normally, I should have been spending my time competing and growing with my friends, but instead, my abnormal abilities and overwhelming strength have robbed me of that.

…It might sound like a luxurious problem. However, while other children my age are happily boasting about their Managrams, I had no right to join in. Each time, I felt an overwhelming sense of isolation and loneliness. Although I made many friends and companions during my adventurer life, there was always something different about it. Additionally, I had no memory.
I didn’t know where I came from, the meaning of the extraordinary powers I had, or the process behind it, so I had no idea what I should do.

“By the way, do you eat bone-in meat?” (Kea)

But then, I remembered. I remembered the words of the goddess.

Kea Tur de Dau. She’s the one who made me like this. In this era, where there are no grand, terrifying magic spells like the great magician Emped’s, I’ve been told that the meaning of the abilities given to me is “the adjustment of the broken gears.” When Kea speaks of “gears,” she likely means the balance of the world. Broken gears…

I remember Medna-san. She was the one who taught me the instrument of peace. At the same time, she was a black witch. Like me, she was created as a weapon to be used in war. In that sense, our existences were similar. In the end, she wished for a peaceful world without war.
For her, my existence as someone aiming to be a warrior was something she didn’t want to acknowledge. I think she was trying to stop me. But in the battle at the Saint Amolina Cathedral, I ended up killing her with my own hands. I stabbed her chest with these hands…

I regret it. I didn’t like the way the orchestra worked, but if asked whether they were absolute evil, I wouldn’t be able to answer definitively.

“There is no such thing as coincidence in fate. Your decisions will always be the correct ones.” (Kea)

Is the reason Kea has left me alone related to the current situation? Is there some inevitable reason behind the past three years I’ve spent in this labyrinth city?

“Lost-san?” (Jack)

“………” (Lost)

“Jackness-san?” (Shia)

“………” (Jack)

“Um, Jackness Abtinit-san?” (Shia)

I suddenly snap back to reality. Shia was walking beside me. We had finished the battle at Baira Volcano and were on our way back to Azarigrad. We were walking through the Nihilo Desert, on our desert journey.

“No, just Lost is fine.” (Jack)

“I thought you wouldn’t respond to Lost-san anymore because of the name change.” (Shia)

“Besides, no one remembers that anymore!” (Jack)

What the heck is this “Tinitinit”? I don’t think that’s the name I was given.

“You seemed to be lost in thought. Are you alright?” (Shia)

“Ah, yeah…” (Jack)

Since my memory returned, Shia has been particularly concerned about me. I often zone out, thinking about something, and I guess she’s worried that I’ve become a completely different person. She might be confused too, but she hasn’t asked me much about my past.

“I’m fine! I’m still me.” (Jack)

I tried to respond cheerfully.

I have to reassure her. Whenever it’s just the two of us, there’s always a lady who interrupts, but she’s completely out of it now after the journey across the desert. She’s lying down like cargo in the mule cart.

“Humans are weak yet greedy, it’s frustrating. Individually, they’re no match for monsters. They’re as foolish as the werewolves who tried to oppose me in the mountains. Ah, they also bore the name ‘Human’.” (Salamander)

Looking at Irene, who’s down, the Fire Sage Salamander starts spouting sarcastic remarks and criticisms. When I saw the small red lizard saying things like that, I wanted to retort, “You’re the one being cheeky.”

We finally returned to the labyrinth city, taking about the same time as the outbound journey. The round trip took about half a year. It was the longest journey I’ve had so far.

I wonder how Taurus and Alba-san are doing; I haven’t seen them in a while. And then there’s Gnome-sama… well, when I go to see her, she’ll probably yell, “You just saw me recently!”. So, I’ll leave the greetings for later. For a 2-3 month gap, she’ll probably consider it as just “the other day.” After half a year, I’d probably hear, “We just saw each other yesterday!” from that little girl.

“Lost-kun, thank you so much for everything this time. You must be tired, and we’ll catch up later.” (Anfan)

“I’m also grateful for your help in restoring my memory, so it’s mutual.” (Jack)

“Also, could you show me the Volcanic Volga you created next time?” (Anfan)

“It’s fine. It was probably just a result of ‘strength in a crisis’ at that time.” (Jack)

We parted ways with Anfan-san and Gina-san’s Magic Guild group at the entrance to the labyrinth city.

I felt like they’re being too fixated on the Volga. Anfan-san was a gentleman, but sometimes he gave off a sense of adult slyness. For instance, when it wasn’t the right time, he’d steer the conversation to Volga, or when we needed to focus on healing the party, he’d switch to eliminating enemies instead.

Looking back, I’ll probably realize that Anfan-san’s choices were correct overall, but at the time, he seemed like someone who lacked human warmth and was calculating. He seemed social, but deep down, he was cold and calculating. That’s the impression I got. Perhaps it’s because I’m a child with high intuition and sensitivity.

“Lost-san, I’m glad I could travel with you. I wish you success in your future endeavors.” (Gina)

I shook hands with Gina-san as we parted ways.

She’s more of a people person, I think.

(POV switch – Anfan)

“Fake Volcanic Volga.” (Anfan)

Lost-kun’s heart’s image extraction skill seems to have surpassed the realm of just a skill. I once saw a friend with the same image extraction skill, but even though they could create precise objects based on the image, they couldn’t imbue them with the original abilities or powers, which is the flaw of this ability. It could only create empty shells, useless little trinkets.

But the Volga Lost-kun made had the same abilities as the original Volga. I feel like he possesses another power besides the Goddess’s blessing. The potential of that ability is beyond measure, and it reminds me of Isaiah Aldridge, the rival I once had. It’s almost like he appeared here as a younger version of him. When my work here is finished, I’d like to go see Isaiah again.

“Lost-san not only has abilities but also a noble spirit.” (Gina)

“Yes, it’s also intriguing from the perspective of the Magic Guild headquarters. I’d even want to take a sample of his blood if I could.” (Anfan)

“Anfan, stop saying things like that…” (Gina)

We returned to the inn we were using as a hideout, with top-notch security, a place fit for noble travelers. However, when we returned to our room, something unexpected happened. In the center of the room, there was a comfortable-looking chair that was part of the inn’s furnishings. But attached to it was a dirty rope, obviously intended for tying someone up. The person tied up was a spirit, one that lived locally and was a rare kind of sage who preferred staying in the area. The Earth Sage, Gnome.

A sacred being in the form of a child, tied up in the room’s chair. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It wasn’t just me, Gina looked just as shocked.

“Why is the Earth Sage Gnome here?!” (Anfan)

It seemed like Gnome had noticed our presence as well. She turned her dirty face toward us, still having some strength left to show anger and dissatisfaction. She seemed to be growling something, but her mouth couldn’t open fully, so she couldn’t speak properly. There were several visible wounds on her eyes and forehead, looking very painful.

“How inhuman…! I’ll help you now!” (Gnome)

Gina rushed towards Gnome and lowered her posture in front of the chair. It seemed like she was going to untie the ropes and bit.

“Wait, Gina.” (Anfan)

“Huh?! Anfan, why?” (Gina)

Gina opened her eyes wide and turned to look at us, raising her voice in surprise. She was asking why I was stopping her, in an almost noisy way. Youthfulness seems to sometimes make one forget their objective.

“We were planning to borrow the Arsenal Volga from Gnome.” (Anfan)

“So what?! I can’t just leave her in this state. Let’s free her and listen to what happened!” (Gina)

“What will freeing her do? Looking at this situation, it’s probably Colin’s doing. If she took appropriate action and this was the result, then the method isn’t wrong.” (Anfan)

“Why would you say such a thing…” (Gina)

“We should hear the circumstances from Colin. We’re a team, after all.” (Anfan)

Calmly, surely. We must not let emotions cloud our objectives. Our aim is the God’s Weapon Rhizomata Volga that will reshape the world. To unlock that seal, all the Volgas are necessary.
We have four pieces now. Thunder Lance Keraunos, Ice Staff Aquaram, Earth Statue Arsenal.
And the fake Fire Sword Volcanic.

Only one remains, the Aerial Volga. The Wind Sage Sylphide, perhaps. I’ve been sending staff from the Magic Guild to her for a while, but we haven’t been able to make progress. How do we get her to move this time… Now that we’ve captured the Earth Sage Gnome, it may be best to push things forward quickly. After all, there’s just one more left. At this point, taking it by force after an assault might be one option.

(POV switch – Jack)

A few days after we returned to Azarigrad. I ran into Taurus and Alba-san again in front of the Adventurer Guild reception. We chatted standing up.

“Oh, isn’t that Lost… wait, you’ve gotten huge!” (Taurus)

“Huh? Has it?” (Jack)

I definitely feel like I’ve grown taller recently. When I first met Taurus, I had to look up to talk to him, but now we’re about the same height.

“Yeah, if I don’t see you for a while, you grow up in no time.” (Taurus)

“Taurus, you seem to have calmed down a bit since I last saw you.” (Jack)

“Calmed down… well, I have actually, truth be told.” (Taurus)

Saying that, Taurus put his hand around Alba-san’s shoulder. Normally, Alba-san would throw Taurus with a shoulder throw or punch him with a muscle punch, but now, Alba-san accepted it without much resistance, looking serious but with a tense expression.

It felt like Alba-san has become more feminine.

“Huh?!” (Jack)

“Huh… what?” (Taurus)

“No way. Taurus and Alba-san…?” (Jack)

Watching them, it actually seemed like they made a good match.

“Taurus needs me. So, I’ve decided to accept him.” (Alba)

“Whoa…” (Jack)

If you keep pushing, will you eventually be rewarded? Well, they are both grown-ups. It wouldn’t be strange if they started dating or got into that kind of relationship. Actually, I’m glad they didn’t end up with anyone strange. Now that I think about it, I wonder how Alfred and Lindsey are doing. If Lindsey safely had the baby, it should be around three years old now… I think I promised to name the baby when I came back, but I completely forgot.

“By the way, Lost, have you seen Gnome-sama recently?” (Taurus)

“Gnome-sama?” (Jack)

I wonder why Taurus is concerned about Gnome-sama.

In response to my puzzled gaze, Alba-san answered instead.

“Yeah, I managed to gather a huge sum of 15 million Solido, but that young lady hasn’t been opening her shop lately.” (Alba-san)

Now that I think about it, I remember that. 15 million Solido, wasn’t that for the “Demon Exorcism Shield”? Alba-san, you can make that much money, huh? You really were born under a lucky star.

“I’ve spent a whole year with regular equipment just to get that…! That little girl, I won’t forgive her…!” (Alba-san)

“Isn’t that a bit paranoid?” (Jack)

Gnome-sama isn’t a little girl. It seems like Alba-san always insists on being the strongest when it comes to equipment.

I decided to visit Gnome-sama, as I was curious.

People who you don’t plan to see often, you tend to forget to greet them. I figured I should at least show my face, even if she complains. Also, I want her to adjust my Insignia Arms.

So, I entered the alleyway leading to the magic tool workshop. This place was really out of sight. A perfect location for a reclusive person like Gnome-sama.  When I turned the corner of the alley and reached the workshop’s entrance, I was stunned by an abnormal sight. The entrance of the workshop was completely destroyed.

Or rather, I was wondering if it even was the entrance, as the building had collapsed. The walls were shattered as if there had been an explosion. Something clearly had happened. Was it because Gnome-sama failed in her experiment and made some suspicious weapon? Or was it a robbery? It was more likely to be the former, but my instincts were ringing alarms.

I cautiously entered the workshop through the large hole in the entrance.

The workshop was eerily quiet. I could hear the daytime hustle of the city in the distance, but the silence was deafening. There was no sign of Gnome-sama. Inside, it was more destroyed than it appeared from the outside. The fail magical tools that Gnome-sama had been storing as junk were scattered all over the place, and the blueprints were torn to pieces and scattered about.

There were signs of a struggle. After all, Gnome-sama’s favorite railgun and rocket punch were destroyed. This couldn’t just be the aftermath of a failed experiment. It was clear from her personality that this was not just an accident.

“What happened…?” (Jack)

I muttered to myself in surprise. There was no doubt that something happened while I was traveling in the Nihilo Desert and Baira Volcano. What concerned me most was Gnome-sama’s safety.

I don’t think it was just a robbery. Someone who could stand up to a spirit like Gnome-sama is very rare. Even I had to prepare for death when fighting Salamander. It couldn’t have been the work of just ordinary adventurers.

What should I do? Though I’m not arrogant enough to call Gnome-sama my comrade, she was close enough as a weapons adviser. She also lectured me on how to live as a warrior. Now that I think about it, Gnome-sama had noticed how I was back then. She saw me as someone transformed into a mere weapon by Goddess Kea and taught me to have my own will.

…I think she’s still alive, but I’ll go search for her. Also, in times like these, it’s not good to rush in alone. I’m not good at seeing the bigger picture. I should consult with the more intellectual ones. Shia and Yustin. I’ll go ask them for their opinions.
