The Wandering Orgia

The creatures in this world can be broadly divided into three categories.
The first is monsters. The definition of monsters is broad, including creatures that do not possess language. This means that cats and dogs, as well as fish and insects, are all considered monsters. Being a monster doesn’t necessarily mean it will attack humans; some are treated as livestock, others as pets, or they may attack humans—there are various types. One feature of monsters is that their levels increase easily, and once they reach a certain level, they evolve to a higher rank. Occasionally, some of them even undergo a transcendence rank-up.
The second category is the demon race. The definition of the demon race is creatures that possess language and can evolve to higher ranks. If a monster undergoes a transcendence rank-up, it generally becomes a demon. However, unlike monsters, demons do not frequently undergo further rank-ups. If one manages to evolve even once, they are regarded as an elite, and if they do so twice, they are considered among the chosen ones. There has never been an example of a third evolution. This is because the third time, or the fourth rank, signifies the ruler of their species, the Demon King. A Demon King is born at the fourth rank, like me. Therefore, once one is born at the first rank, they cannot reach the fourth rank. This is the general belief.
The third category is humans. The definition of humans includes beings that have language, but cannot evolve to higher ranks. This includes not only humans but also elves, dwarves, beastmen, and so on. Their characteristics include the inability to rank-up evolution, meaning their levels continue to rise indefinitely, and they can easily gain professions.
A simple rule of thumb is that if someone exceeds level 100, they are considered elite, and if they exceed level 200, they are considered extraordinary.
I gave this explanation because of the green giant who was bowing before me.
His name is Orgia, and his species was Great Demon Ogre. I looked it up in a book, and yes, he was a Great Demon Ogre. To become a Great Demon Ogre, one must undergo two rank-ups in evolution. Starting as a Lesser Demon Goblin, then evolving to a Middle Demon Hobgoblin, and only then can one become a Great Demon Ogre.
In other words, he is an elite, beyond the first-rate for humans. Even though I am a newly born Demon King at the fourth rank, Orgia is a seasoned warrior. If we fought, I would likely be killed instantly.
So why is Orgia bowing to me? It’s because Orgia is mistaken.
Yesterday, while Orgia was walking through the forest, he encountered a group of adventurers. A battle broke out, and though he won, his wounds were severe, and he was on the brink of death. I happened to pass by, removed the hard-to-eat or forbidden-to-eat armor and weapons, and left them in a place where Orgia could reach. Orgia ate the meat and survived thanks to his unique skill, “Abnormal Recovery”. Now that he has fully healed, he came to find me and thank me.
But that’s not it. That’s totally not it. My goal was to take the adventurers’ belongings, and I was hoping that someone would eat you, who was barely alive. That’s it.
I will never say this, though! If I did, I would be killed!
“U-uh, Orgia-san, please don’t worry about it. It’s natural to help those in need, right?”
“What a noble heart! I have seen many Demon Kings in my time, but every one of them was selfish and tyrannical. There was not a single one who reached out to help others!” (Orgia)
Uhh, my evaluation somehow went up. But something he said just now caught my attention.
“Orgia-san, you’ve met other Demon Kings?”
“Yes! Ever since I was a Lesser Demon Goblin, I have been traveling around the world, and once I became a Great Demon Ogre, I was often invited to join Demon Kings’ ranks. I would stay with them for a while, but eventually, I didn’t get along with them and wandered from place to place.” (Orgia)
He’s been to several Demon Kings’ places? That’s an impressive experience.
“Actually, Orgia-san, I just became a Demon King recently, and I don’t know what other Demon Kings are like. Could you tell me a bit about them? Maybe we could have dinner together—ah, wait, I don’t have any food right now.”
It’s night right now, but Orgia’s story is valuable and could guide me in the future. It’s worth the risk to hear it. I guess I’ll have to go gather some food.
“I’m sorry, Orgia-san, but I’ll go gather dinner now, so please rest in my private room.”
“No, no! I cannot let my savior prepare food for me! I’ll just go hunt something and bring it back. Please wait here!” (Orgia)
With that, Orgia ran outside.
He’s either very diligent or very serious, or maybe Orgia-san is just a kind person.
I thought that once.
When Orgia came back, he was carrying a giant boar, nearly two meters long, on his shoulders. There was a large dent on its head, from which blood was dripping. He must have struck that spot.
Now, let’s eat.
Orgia was surprised when he tried to eat the giant boar raw, and I quickly claimed that I was good at cooking to cover it up. I took the boar and moved it to the kitchen. Then, when I stored it in the book, the book neatly separated it into “Giant Boar Skin,” “Giant Boar Tusk,” and “Giant Boar Meat”, just as I expected. After that, I prepared a pot and broth, and the meat-only boar hotpot was completed.
When I took it to him, Orgia was in the throne room. It seems that the private room wasn’t very comfortable for him. So, we ended up eating the hotpot in the throne room, and my impression was that I wished there had been vegetables. Only meat was a bit much.
On the other hand, Orgia seemed to enjoy it and ate it happily. I was able to hear about Demon Kings, and I had someone to talk to. This meal ended up being very meaningful.
