When I came to, for some reason, I was collapsed in front of a throne.
There was no one in front of the throne. And yet, the chandelier on the ceiling shone brilliantly, and the throne itself emitted a radiance no less dazzling. As if its master were there.
Holding my confused head, I tried to grasp the situation, and immediately understood. That I knew nothing. Not only did I not know where this was or why I was here, but I also couldn’t remember my birthplace, birthdate, or even my name.
Only knowledge remained. I could recognize that the golden chair before me was a throne, and I could question where the electricity for the chandelier on the ceiling was coming from. Only my memories were completely gone. No, it felt as if they had never existed in the first place, without even the slightest remnant.
Is this amnesia? That word felt off, but for now, I’ve decided to go with it.
“Is anyone there?!”
I shouted simply because the thought occurred to me. But no one responded. It seemed like no one was around here.
The remaining options were six doors in total, three on each side, and a single large door at the end of a red carpet that stretched straight from the throne.
What to do?
The answer was obvious. I would check the smaller doors one by one, avoiding the large door for now—my instincts whispered that I should stay away from it. And so, I started investigating the doors on either side.
The first door. In the center of the room was a massive canopy bed. In the corner was another door, which led to a washroom when I opened it. It even had a washing machine and a dryer. It seemed to be quite a convenient bedroom.
The second door. The moment I opened it, I immediately understood what the place was. A toilet. And it even had a bidet. There were plenty of spare toilet paper rolls and air fresheners. I wouldn’t have to worry about that for a while.
The third door. Behind it was a bath, spacious enough to be called a public bathhouse. I wanted to test how many people could fit in at once. It had showers, an electric bath, and even a sauna. The temperature could be easily adjusted using a monitor on the wall. The only problem was that it was too big, making cleaning a hassle. Also, there was no dressing room.
The fourth door. If I had been a cook, I would have been ecstatic. The kitchen was fully equipped with all kinds of utensils, from knives and pots to a microwave, oven, refrigerator, freezer, and even a smoker. Everything needed for cooking was there. The only issue was that I couldn’t find any food.
The fifth door. A game room, or perhaps a private room. A giant sofa, multiple large monitors, each connected to home gaming consoles. Of course, there were also handheld consoles, and the selection of games was abundant. A little searching revealed board games like Othello and Shogi. I could have stayed there for days. That’s why I left quickly—if I lingered too long, I might have gotten too comfortable.
The sixth door. There was nothing here. Just an empty, spacious room.
In conclusion, the throne room was livable, as long as I could secure food.
Well, I hadn’t been checking the rooms with the intention of living here, but this was a significant discovery. Despite the environment being perfectly suitable for human habitation, there wasn’t a single person around. More than that, there were no traces of anyone having lived here at all. Every item in every room was in pristine condition.
A nameless fear welled up inside me, but I couldn’t afford to sit still. I stood in front of the last remaining door, the large one. I opened the iron door, and what I saw beyond it was… A completely untouched forest.
I have no idea what was going on. Why is there a forest directly connected to the throne room? I mean, what is this? Why is there just a door installed on a hilltop? There’s nothing else, no space for the throne room beyond the door. What the hell? Is this like some kind of anywhere-door? Is this directly connected to the throne room?
Question after question arose, but I found no answers. For now, I closed the door. Then, I opened it again. It seemed it wasn’t an anywhere-door that let me teleport to different places. With one mystery somewhat resolved, I managed to regain a bit of composure.
First, what should I do? My top priority should be securing food, right? This forest looks like it may have something edible if I searched for it.
As I scanned my surroundings for anything useful, I spotted something moving among the trees. A small, dirt-covered green creature. About the size of a child, nearly naked, with only a strip of animal hide or straw around its waist, wielding a club in its hand.
There were about five of them, beating a giant caterpillar-like creature with their clubs. They were probably hunting. But then, a shadow crept up behind them. A dog… no, a wolf was closing in. A pack of about five, just like the little green creatures. But for some reason, one of them was holding a spear in its mouth.
As the small creatures joyfully celebrated their hunt, the wolves launched a surprise attack. And then, something shocking happened. One of the wolves stood up on two legs. Not only that, but it skillfully wielded the spear with both hands, skewering the little green creatures one after another. The small creatures were helpless against the sudden attack, and in the end, the wolves secured their meal, both the caterpillar and the five green creatures.
Watching this scene, I had only one thought.
Don’t ever go into this forest. I have no confidence in my survival. Even though I have no memories, I know that I am not strong. I have no muscles, I am not fast. I need to find a way to secure food without entering that forest… huh?
Then, I noticed something. The spear-wielding wolf was staring directly at me. Of course, there was quite a distance between us. It was possible that it wasn’t looking at me, but at something else. But I felt like we had locked eyes.
When I stared back, it didn’t avert its gaze. Then, another wolf spoke to the spear-wielder, and its gaze finally shifted. Seizing that moment, I hurriedly retreated through the door. I forced my trembling legs to move, suppressing my pounding heart as I rushed straight ahead and hid behind the throne. The moment I reached safety, the fear I had been holding back finally overwhelmed me.
I felt nothing when the dirty green creatures were mercilessly slaughtered. I had simply observed, detached, as if watching a distant country’s affairs.
But now, it is different. That spear-wielding wolf had seen me. There is a very real possibility that it would come to kill me. And the odds of that happening are high.
Their pack had five members. I was alone. They were armed. I was not. And the only thing on that hill was a single door. They would be suspicious and investigate.
There was only one hope for survival. If they had already gathered enough food and were satisfied, they might leave.
But if they need more… If their goal isn’t just hunting but killing… Everything would change.
Leaning against the throne, I trembled, praying desperately that they wouldn’t come.
Thud!
I nearly had a heart attack. Looking in the direction of the sound, I saw a book, luxuriously bound, lying on the ground. I picked it up and read the title. It said…
“Let’s Create a Dungeon.”

TLN: The main character is nameless at the moment. So, I won’t use my usual formating on the dialogue where I write the name of the speaker.
