On the other hand, the Lureid Kingdom was also caught off guard by the search led by the Captain of the Royal Guard, Kario. At the regular meeting, the topic was supposed to be about negotiations with the Laplace Kingdom to retrieve the princess, but unexpectedly, the topic of the search was brought up.

“There have been reports that a large number of soldiers have gathered at the slums on the edge of the royal capital. What is going on here?” (Tafman)

The King Lureid, who had not been informed about the search of the slums, demanded an explanation from his vassals, but even his vassals were caught off guard. Amid this, it was Count Ludwig who raised his hand.

“Your Majesty, Captain of the Royal Guard, Kario, is leading the search on-site, so I will explain on his behalf.” (Ludwig)

“Ludwig, speak.” (Tafman)

“The enemy who abducted Princess Alice may still be in the royal capital. Therefore, we have dispatched several thousand soldiers to the slums, which is believed to be the most likely place for them to be hiding, and they are currently investigating.” (Ludwig)

The other vassals murmured at the information that the princess might still be in the royal capital.

“Still in the royal capital, you say!? That’s absurd. There were traces of climbing the castle walls.” (Boris)

Immediately, Minister Boris voiced the feelings of the other attendees, challenging Count Ludwig, but the Count shook his head as if mocking the Minister and continued his explanation.

“No. Those traces could be fake and meant to deceive our eyes. After all, it is extremely difficult to climb the castle walls while carrying a hostage like Princess Alice.” (Ludwig)

“I see. So, it is possible that my daughter might be found!” (Tafman)

The unexpected information that the enemy might be found made King Lureid immediately cheerful.

“To prevent the enemy from realizing it, the slum blockade was a secret known only to Kario and myself. I apologize for not informing even you, Your Majesty.” (Ludwig)

“It’s fine, it’s fine. I wish the soldiers good luck. I will wait here for good news.” (Tafman)

The King graciously forgave the Count’s apology.

“If this turns out to be a mistake, what will happen?” (Boris)

Despite this, it was still Boris who interjected.

Though he had been looking forward to seeing the Count earn the King’s ire, he was frustrated by how the Count had instead made the King pleased.

“If after such an exaggerated search, nothing is found, we will be the laughingstock of the entire country.” (Boris)

The Count, exasperated by Boris’s attempt to hinder the national crisis, replied with a weary expression.

“Minister, if we are afraid of failure, we won’t be able to act at all. For now, we are simply eliminating possibilities one by one.” (Ludwig)

“But if we fail…” (Boris)

“Boris. The mission to rescue the princess has been entrusted to Kario. Keep quiet.” (Tafman)

Boris, who had been persistently pressing the issue, was eventually dismissed with a reprimand from King Lureid. He quickly shrank back and awkwardly took his seat.

Seeing this, the official in charge announced the end of the meeting.

“We will now adjourn the meeting.” (Official)

After the meeting was over, Boris returned to his mansion. Boris’s mansion was a large estate located in the prime area just next to the royal palace.

“Welcome back, Goshujin-sama.” (Servant)

A large number of servants, second only to the royal family in the kingdom, lined up to greet Boris, but he ignored them all and entered the mansion.

The servants immediately sensed that their master was in a bad mood. This kind of situation was routine, so the servants had grown accustomed to it.

“That damn Count. He made a huge blunder and is still walking around with that arrogant face.” (Boris)

Grumbling, Boris entered his room where his wife was calmly sipping tea.

“Welcome back. How was your day?” (Wife)

“Humph. Another unpleasant day. We must hurry and expel the commoners and the nobles who side with them from the palace.” (Boris)

He then looked around.

His daughter, who usually greeted him alongside his wife, was nowhere to be seen.

“Where is our daughter?” (Boris)

“She has been invited to a tea party at the Duke’s house.” (Wife)

“What!?” (Boris)

His wife answered nonchalantly, but Boris’s expression changed drastically.

Seeing his wife, who was drinking expensive tea with a carefree expression, made him furious. He yelled at her, unable to contain his anger at her ignorance and stupidity.

“What in the world are you doing, leisurely having fun during the national emergency when Princess Alice has been kidnapped?! What will happen if this gets to the King’s ears?” (Boris)

“But, the gathering was a study session, after all…” (Wife)

“Study session or not! It doesn’t matter! Go fetch her right now!!” (Boris)

His wife, muttering complaints, left the room to call their daughter.

How could this woman not understand unless she was shouted at?

Boris’s mood worsened even further.

Bang!

He slammed the door to his large bedroom shut in anger.

“Really… a foolish wife and a foolish daughter.” (Boris)

As Boris fumed alone in his room, there was a gentle knock on the bedroom door.

“Goshujin-sama. I have come to give you a massage.” (Maid)

“Oh. Come in.” (Boris)

“Excuse me.” (Maid)

A soft voice accompanied the entrance of a young maid into the room.

Massages were the only thing that could soothe Boris, who was quick to anger and easily irritated. His mansion had many young maids and female attendants, and among them, the most beautiful ones would give him massages every day. He looked the maid who was going to give him the massage up and down with a lascivious gaze.

“Hmm. I haven’t seen your face before.” (Boris)

“Yes. I have been serving here since last week.” (Maid)

“I see, I see.” (Boris)

Boris, who had been in a bad mood earlier, now smiled broadly in delight.

The maid looked like a pure, innocent girl who had just come from the countryside. Such a girl was exactly Boris’s type.

“Well then, let’s get started and have a nice time.” (Boris)

Boris said, turning off the lights and grinning as he undressed.

“No, Goshujin-sama. I was only planning to give you a massage.” (Maid)

The maid turned her face away shyly.

She was flustered, but her profile did not seem like she was refusing. That attitude only stirred Boris’s heart even more. He was in an entirely good mood now. “By venting my anger like this, I am able to make calm judgments to lead the kingdom.” He justified it to himself.

“Ha ha ha. Don’t worry. No one will come into this room. Even if a messenger from the palace arrives, I will pretend not to be home. So, don’t be shy, come here.” (Boris)

“Ah, yes. I’m at ease.” (Maid)

Boris, sitting on the bed, gestured for the maid to come closer. The maid smirked.

In an instant, she pushed Boris’s large body onto the bed and pressed a dagger right next to his face.

“I can speak freely now. Minister Boris.” (Maid)
