Long Day (7): Lulu-san and I

I was abducted by Lulu-san and dragged to the back of the old school building.
In the dim light, just enough to recognize Lulu-san, I stood face-to-face with her. At first, Lulu-san had her arm wrapped around my neck, but like a ferocious beast toying with its prey, she moved around to stand in front of me. The pressure was so overwhelming that if I had my beloved gun, Counter, I might have instinctively pulled the trigger.
I could hear voices calling for me from the street, but I had no intention of responding.
Swallowing nervously by instinct, I heard Lulu-san speak in a low voice.
“Don’t be so scared.” (Lulu)
I forced a smile onto my tense face and tried to speak lightly.
“What’s this about all of a sudden? And so forcefully too.” (Lux)
But Lulu-san, without even attempting to hide her feral aura, said bluntly.
“Where is Rita?” (Lulu)
So, it’s about that, after all. Knowing my connection with Rita-san, and with Lulu-san’s animal-like intuition, I had expected her to suspect me of helping Rita-san escape.
“…I wonder? More importantly, tell me. Why is Rita-san being chased? What’s this about treason?” (Lux)
I feigned ignorance and asked her. But what came back was silence. Then once again…
“Enough of the charade. I asked you, where is Rita?” (Lulu)
“…What will you do if I tell you?” (Lux)
“Who knows… Well then, let me rephrase. What is Rita trying to do?” (Lulu)
Hearing those words, I thought, Oh? Could it be that Lulu-san doesn’t know the full story?
“…That’s what I’d like to know too…” (Lux)
I put on a brave face while enduring the intense killing intent directed at me.
“…I could force it out of you, you know?” (Lulu)
“And do you think I’d talk?” (Lux)
Silence fell between us once more. I took a deep breath and spoke again, putting strength into my voice.
“Lulu-san… what do you plan to do with Rita-san?” (Lux)
“…I’m a soldier, you know? If ordered, I’ll capture her.” (Lulu)
“Then, I have nothing to tell you.” (Lux)
Once again, a heavy silence fell. It probably wasn’t even three minutes, but to me, it felt like hours.
“Tch.” (Lulu)
Lulu-san clicked her tongue and withdrew her killing intent. I finally relaxed my shoulders. I had been so tense that my neck hurt a little.
“…Are you up to something interesting?” (Lulu)
“I don’t really know what’s going on in the truest sense.” (Lux)
This was true. She had said she was working for a ceasefire, but I hadn’t heard what she planned to do next.
“Well, fine. Today, I’ll let it go in deference to your guts, Lux. Besides, Rita’s no longer at the academy anyway.” (Lulu)
With that, she muttered, “Man, that’s boring”, and disappeared in the direction opposite the street.
“Ah, there you are! Lux, what are you doing here!? Everyone’s been looking for you!” (Sonia)
Hearing Sonia’s voice, I turned awkwardly.
“Uh… just a little something. Sorry, let’s head back.” (Lux)
That was all I could manage.

*Today’s Diary*
It’s been long. Too long a day. To be exact, two days. I’ve barely slept since last night. I’m terribly sleepy, but at the same time, there’s a strange excitement keeping me awake. That’s why I’m writing in my diary now, since I couldn’t yesterday.
This excitement must be from the exchange I had with Lulu-san. At that moment, I was honestly glad I didn’t have my beloved gun, Counter, with me. I wasn’t joking when I thought I might have pulled the trigger. At that range, though, I probably would have been the one taken out.
I’ve hunted many kinds of prey in the southern village. There were bears, sleek and aggressive beasts, and terrifying creatures like the boa, which combined strength and speed. Come to think of it, Lulu-san reminds me of a boa. Although, in terms of danger, I feel like Lulu-san surpasses it. Is she even human?
Still, why did Lulu-san come alone and question only me? Given her personality, it feels more natural for her to storm into the clubroom and extract the answers by force.
I don’t get it. Or maybe I’m just too tired to think straight.
I’m really glad about Norris. I can’t thank Saxon enough. Someday, I want to repay him somehow. But Saxon would probably refuse. Maybe Norris’s handmade sweets would work. I’ll consult with her.
I wonder if Rita-san managed to escape safely. I trust she’ll be fine, knowing her, but her opponent is no ordinary one. Rita-san’s fated adversary, and the noble who may have killed my parents, Bowman Deran Baxwal.
What is Baxwal thinking? What is he aiming for?
No use. I’m too sleepy. Writing in my diary has calmed me down a bit.
I’ll think about it tomorrow.
See you tomorrow.
