New Year’s Party at the Western-Style Mansion (2): What!?

Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

Maria froze while looking at the love letter handed to her by Sonia. However, thinking right away, “A student from Solar…? No way…?” was typical of Catrap’s brains.

As she watched this, Sonia continued.

“Actually, I wanted to explain the situation before giving it to you, but at the request of the sender of that letter, I’m giving it to you first, Maria-chan.” (Sonia)

“At his request?” (Maria)

“Yeah. ‘It would have a stronger impact this way, so please’ he said.” (Sonia)

“Can I open it?” (Maria)

“Of course, ah, we haven’t read the contents, but since the general at the fort oversaw the inspection, the seal is already open.” (Sonia)

Normally, there would be more procedures for receiving documents from an enemy nation, but thanks to the assistance of Orfas, the fiancé of Beretta-san, the princess of Remnos, and the permission granted by General Isaiah, we were able to bring it here.

If Orfas had calculated the risk and gone to the enemy’s fort with that kind of backing, I think Willard must be quite something. Though, judging by the way he acts, he probably hasn’t thought much about it.

Anyway, Maria opened the seal and began reading the letter. We silently watched her, holding our breath.

Maria, who had been reading the letter silently for a while, suddenly exclaimed.

“Eh!?” (Maria)

“…Maria, did you imagine someone other than Willard?” (Lux)

I couldn’t help but ask. Maria quickly looked up and shook her head.

“No, I thought it was Willard, but I was just surprised by the noble family name.” (Maria)

“Oh? What name is it?” (Lamie)

Lamie-senpai seemed to be interested.

Maria hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should say it.

“It’s the Gain Household. It’s signed as Sarell Gain Willard…” (Maria)

Hearing those words, Lamie-senpai was struck speechless with a “What…?” and Heinz also lost his words with a “No way…”

“Is he famous, degozaru?” (Hana)

Hana, who, like me, wasn’t very interested in noble society, asked, and Heinz explained.

“…Well, it’s hard to compare it directly with the nobles of the Principality of Rozan, but it’s on par with the five great noble households, or rather, with the rise of military nobles nowadays, it might even be above the Bell Household, which is famous…” (Heinz)

“Is it really that much, degozaru…? Is it about the same size as Heinz’s house?” (Hana)

“Well, it’s hard to say. My family is technically royal, after all…” (Heinz)

“Ah, I see. So, it’s a major family in Solar.” (Hana)

At Heinz’s explanation, Hana seemed to understand, “Maria, you’re amazing… I’ve never received a love letter,” she said, and Lites replied, “Really? Lev gets them a lot.”

Everyone’s attention shifted to Lev.

Lev lowered her head, looking troubled, and said in a small voice.

“…Sorry.” (Lev)

Though she was dependable on the battlefield, she wasn’t used to being in the spotlight in peaceful times. In the beginning, she acted cool, trying to be composed, but now, around us, her shy side occasionally showed through.

Normally, it would be the opposite, but I didn’t mind, as it was a sign that she trusted us. She was quite popular, though, when we weren’t around, as she portrayed the image of a cool beauty. Interestingly, the twin brothers Lites and Leitz also had well-shaped faces, and whenever the two of them walked around the town together, they caught everyone’s attention.

“…Lev, you betrayed me, degozaru!” (Hana)

Hana dramatically bit her sleeve. She wasn’t exactly unattractive, but she was a bit of a unique character, so it took some time for her charm to be noticed by others.

While Lev was wondering how to respond to Hana, Lites, who had spoken earlier, urged.

“Forget about that. Let’s continue explaining to Maria.” (Lites)

So, primarily led by Sonia, with me and Heinz adding supplementary details, we explained the mission’s backstory. We kept the explanation brief regarding the robbery part since it wasn’t really suitable for the occasion, focusing more on the story about Willard.

After a relatively long story, when we finally took a sip of tea and sighed in relief.

“Lux, you always do this whenever I turn my back.” (Frank)

Frank said, sounding exasperated.

I don’t think it’s just me, though. (Lux)

“So, what will you do? Respond?” (Sonia)

Sonia asked, looking at Maria.

“…I’m not sure yet.” (Maria)

“Eh, does that mean there’s a possibility? Now that I think about it, Willard was worried about whether Maria had a fiancé, degozaru.” (Hana)

“Eh!? Me, engaged? No way! No way!” (Maria)

Maria said, visibly flustered.

Maybe she said something to him when she went home the other day?

“Really? That’s suspicious…” (Hana)

Hana commented.

Are you drinking or something?

“Well, anyway, I’ll meet him at the school competition and talk to him.” (Maria)

Maria responded simply.

“Oh, by the way, Linkert-san, when did you find out about the school competition?” (Lux)

I asked, noticing Linkert-san, who had been listening with a smile.

“Why do you ask?” (Linkert)

Linkert-san asked, tilting his head.

“I thought maybe it was because you said, ‘You better win two matches’ before the latter half of the competition. I wondered if you knew about the school competition then.” (Lux)

“Heh, that’s right. You’re spot on, Lux.” (Linkertan)

“I’m glad you supported us, but why did you want us to win?” (Rick)

“Of course, because I thought you, as participants, should stand on the stage for the truce ceremony. And, as expected, you showed great results. You were wonderful.” (Linkert)

“Though we haven’t been selected as representatives yet…” (Rick)

Rick-san said.

“Well, we’ll see soon enough. The announcement will be made shortly. Look forward to it.” (Linkert)

Linkert-san smiled.

In the midst of the cheerful conversation, Lamie-senpai raised her hand.

“Yes? What’s up?” (Heinz)

Heinz replied.

“Well, Heinz, I have something I want to ask. Are you, by chance, royalty?” (Lamie)

Ah, that’s right. Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai didn’t know that…

*Today’s Diary*

In the end, I decided to explain the details to Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai later and summarized Heinz’s identity for them.

Regarding the “Record of the Duke Lengrad” and the truce, I wasn’t sure how much I should disclose, but with Linkert-san’s encouragement, we promised to meet at the Western-style mansion on another day.

Thus, the long holiday finally came to an end, and the new semester began.
