War Begins

“Casablanca-sama! The battle has begun.” (Messenger)

The report was delivered while Casablanca and her entourage were en route from the royal capital to the battlefield. In other words, the kingdom’s army had entered combat without its supreme commander, Casablanca.

“The kingdom’s army stationed on the left flank has clashed with the noble coalition forces. As a result, the center and right flanks have also begun fighting.” (Messenger)

“Understood. Arc, Fran. Let’s hurry.” (Casablanca)

With that, Casablanca spurred her horse forward.

Casablanca arrived at the battlefield approximately three hours after the fighting had started. The battleground was a plain in the former Leo territory, situated at the border between the Laplace Kingdom and the Lureid Kingdom. Riding ahead, Casablanca and her entourage ascended a small hill that offered a panoramic view of the battlefield to assess the situation.

“Casablanca-sama. We’ve been awaiting your arrival!” (Lily)

Perhaps upon hearing of their arrival, Lily, the third member of the Casablanca Seven, came running. Having just returned from the battlefield, her face was slick with sweat and blood.

“Good work, Lily. Explain the situation.” (Casablanca)

Lily pointed first to the battlefield on the left side of the hill.

“Yes. On our left flank, Jeanne is leading 10,000 troops against 20,000 noble coalition forces. We are slightly favored, but the numerical disadvantage means we could be pushed back at any moment.” (Lily)

Jeanne was the second member of the Casablanca Seven.

“I thought the role of the royal guards was merely to protect the queen, but they’re capable of commanding troops too, huh?” (Arc)

“Fran is the only one who stayed by my side, isn’t she? The rest of the members were deployed to the battlefield.” (Casablanca)

Casablanca gave a succinct reply to Arc’s irrelevant observation before urging Lily to continue.

“Go on, Lily.” (Casablanca)

“In the center, Alma is commanding 30,000 troops but struggling. The enemy has concentrated their main forces, including Louis-sama and the Lureid Kingdom’s elite. We’re heavily outmatched but managing to hold thanks to support from the left and right flanks.” (Lily)

The center was also under the command of a Casablanca Seven member, the Fourth Unit, Alma.

“So, it’s reversed, huh?” (Arc)

Arc muttered under his breath, ensuring Casablanca wouldn’t hear. It wasn’t that the royal guards were necessarily skilled commanders. Rather, the kingdom’s army was so short of personnel that they had no choice but to rely on the royal guard as their leaders.

After all, all the nobles had been purged.

“On the right flank, Tyr Warden-dono is leading 10,000 kingdom troops against the Lureid Kingdom’s forces. The situation is stable, and we have the upper hand.” (Lily)

“As expected of Brother Tyr.” (Arc)

Arc listened to the report with pride.

In this battle, the Warden army was too exhausted to participate. Instead, Tyr was tasked with commanding the kingdom’s troops, and despite initial concerns about their lack of training, his leadership proved to be more than sufficient. With Tyr, along with other top-tier generals like Hal, Randal, Laika, and Rishu, there was no cause for concern.

“The center is being pushed back considerably.” (Casablanca)

Casablanca muttered bitterly.

Indeed, as the report suggested, the central forces were struggling, clearly visible from the hill. The Laplace Kingdom’s banners were gradually retreating.

“If the center collapses, the left and right flanks will be isolated. That could lead to a complete rout.” (Fran)

“We’re going.” (Casablanca)

With that, Casablanca began removing her clothes.

“Casablanca-sama!?” (Arc)

“What is it, Arc? This frilly outfit is getting in the way.” (Casablanca)

Casablanca stripped down to her undergarments.

“Is it a crime of lèse-majesté to see the queen’s undergarments…?” (Arc)

While Arc muttered nervously, the attendants brought over golden armor.

It took five people to fully equip Casablanca in the armor.

“It’s heavy, smelly, and almost impossible to move in. I hate wearing this.” (Casablanca)

Her face was nearly completely obscured by the armor, which offered unparalleled protection.

“But with the kingdom’s army on the verge of collapse, there’s no choice. I need to fire them up.” (Casablanca)

It was the first time anyone had seen the royal armor. Members of the royal family, usually stationed far behind the lines, rarely donned armor. This must signify her strong resolve. Her golden armor gleamed brilliantly under the sunlight.

“Let’s descend. We’re charging into the center.” (Casablanca)

With those words, Casablanca spurred her horse and galloped down the hill.
