*Ulysses Hazaknut Stone’s POV

“Honestly… Haru-kun rejecting me is, in a way, Eibar-kun’s fault, you know?” (Ulysses)

I spat out this harsh remark while sitting in front of the throne in the audience chamber of the Dehaubalz Royal Palace, facing King Eibar.

If this man had properly trained Wilfred from the start, I would never have considered switching allegiance to Haru-kun. And if he had treated Haru-kun more kindly, he might have listened to my words.

“…Even I didn’t think he would be that incompetent…” (Eibar)

“Then, who raised such an incompetent person?” (Ulysses)

“…” (Eibar)

Honestly… what is he even saying while ignoring his own incompetence?

The war with the Capetian Kingdom was a disaster. I gave him the best weapons, but he used them just to satisfy his own violent desires, and in the end, he was easily swayed by the enemy king and concluded a peace treaty on his own.

“Anyway, at this rate, Your Majesty Eibar’s desired divine throne will never be within reach.” (Ulysses)

“Wh-What!? That’s not what we agreed upon!” (Eibar)

“I’m sorry, but with the protagonist… gone, there’s nothing we can do now.” (Ulysses)

A man with ambition far stronger than his abilities, trying to replace God while being just a mere human. Well, in the beginning, I was intrigued by this man’s pure desires and offered unnecessary help, but now I regret not making him suffer more.

“Then, I should just prepare someone else, right?” (Eibar)

“I’m telling you, Cardis-kun and Raphael-kun have different roles… They can’t serve as the protagonist in place of him.” (Ulysses)

“Ugh…!” (Eibar)

How foolish. If such a simple exchange of roles were possible, I wouldn’t have had to struggle so much. Well, I did try to swap Wilfred and Haru-kun, but that’s beside the point.

“By the way… honestly, you really lack perception. Haru-kun would have been much more suitable as the protagonist than Wilfred, but you never realized that.” (Ulysses)

“B-But! He was, up until two years ago, the ‘incompetent bratty prince’! That’s a fact!” (Eibar)

“Yeah, that’s true…” (Ulysses)

While I spat insults at King Eibar, the fact remains that I too failed to see Haru-kun’s true nature. As he says, Haru-kun, like the ‘incompetent bratty prince’ he was, used to fawn over Cardis-kun and treat those below him arrogantly. He had no real abilities, and couldn’t even manage the ‘Blessing Gift’ that was supposed to be granted to everyone in this world. He was basically talentless. Although, he does have more mana than anyone else in this world, and the ‘Blessing Gift’ he possesses does have incredible potential, but it’s essentially a waste.

“…Don’t worry. If there’s no one, we’ll just make one.” (Ulysses)

“Heh…” (Eibar)

I wonder if he’s planning to make some random person his secret child… and then give them the right to the throne. I doubt that’s something that the Dehaubalz Kingdom can afford. It would mean the royal bloodline would be severed.

“Well, if you’re fine with that, I’m not complaining.” (Ulysses)

My role is to guide this story to its conclusion, and beyond that… I couldn’t care less. The people of Nors may desire what comes after, but I’m not a God. Those things are for the real Gods to handle. And honestly… Father offering his life so willingly is way too heavy. The Dehaubalz Kingdom fell because of his incompetence, so don’t push the aftermath onto me. It’s been almost a century of nothing but hardship… But whatever.

Once this story concludes, that guy’s wish will be granted, and Father’s long-held dream will be realized.

“Anyway, with only three months left, make sure you’re prepared.” (Ulysses)

“Y-Yes, I understand.” (Eibar)

“Well then.” (Ulysses)

I disappear from the audience chamber and instantly teleport to my home, the Salsos mansion.

“Welcome home, young master.” (Casper)

“Yeah, yeah. Could you stop calling me ‘young master’ already?” (Ulysses)

“No. To me, you will always be the young master.” (Casper)

Casper, my butler, bows deeply while saying that. I scowl at him.

Honestly… I may be over a hundred years old, but if I were human… I’d be living my second life by now.

“So… how does it look? Will it work?” (Casper)

“It should be fine. There’s some minor course correction needed, but Eibar-kun will manage.” (Ulysses)

“Ugh… That wretched descendant of a demon, you say.” (Casper)

Just mentioning King Eibar’s name makes Casper, who is usually so indifferent, change into a terrifying expression.

“Come on, come on. Once the story of the god reaches its conclusion, that will be the end of it.” (Ulysses)

“…Indeed.” (Casper)

Anyway, after all these years, we’ve finally made it this far. I’m just here to watch over it. Yet.

“Hehe♪ Why does it feel like…” (Ulysses)

The future I see in my mind is one where Haru-kun leads this story to a different conclusion. For the sake of fulfilling the wishes of the Nors people… to guide the story of the god to its end, that’s my role. Why should I be thinking about such things…? But…

“If it’s Haru-kun, surely…” (Ulysses)

I can’t help but wish, though I know it’s an impossible wish. That Haru-kun will be the one to create that future for me.

—That he will break my fate.
