Princess, Again

“Ah, it’s about time I need to head back! Today, some people from the academy will host a welcome party at the hotel! And then, make sure to keep tomorrow night free. Let’s have dinner together! See you!” (Beretta)

The princess of Remnos, Beretta, entered like a storm and left like a storm.

Her bear-like escort, General Verger, gave a small apologetic bow and ducked through the ill-fitting door before leaving. Silence briefly filled the room.

“…Whoa.” (Lite)

“Huh? Lite, you’re the one saying that? Isn’t she your princess?” (Frank)

“Alright, Frank, let me ask you this. Have you ever talked to this country’s royalty before?” (Lite)

“What are you talking about? I just had breakfast with the king’s younger brother the other day.” (Frank)

“…True.” (Lite)

Though Lite was out-argued, I don’t think most people would ever have the chance to share breakfast with royalty.

“Still, wow, that was something… Heinz, is she always like that? By the way, I plan to spend tomorrow with my wife, so…” (Rick)

“No, in formal settings, she’s much more composed. That kind of ‘Hohoho’ laughter, you know? It’s almost funny in a full-circle way. Oh, by the way, Rick, is there anyone besides your wife joining you tomorrow? If not, feel free to bring her along.” (Heinz)

“Ah, I see. Alright, I’ll come.” (Rick)

Rick decided to join without hesitation.

Now that I think about it, this will be my first time meeting Rick’s wife.

“That just leaves Maria… I hope she can make time…” (Heinz)

“Is it really necessary for her to come? Wait! Could it be that Heinz will get in trouble later if she doesn’t?” (Ratt)

“No, not that. Maria’s case is a bit political. She’s the daughter of one of this country’s most influential nobles. Having her meet Beretta would benefit both nations.” (Heinz)

“I see. In that case, I’ll let her know on my way back. Whether she can come or not, I can’t say.” (Ratt)

“Thanks. Maria will understand the importance, so unless something major comes up, she’ll likely attend.” (Heinz)

Overwhelmed by the energy of the neighboring country’s princess, we all disbanded for the day in a somewhat dazed state.

*Today’s Diary*

Today should’ve marked the end of the second term, but it doesn’t feel that way at all. It seems our winter break will be delayed a bit longer. At least the dorm party held tonight was enjoyable. The dorm mother’s exquisite cooking was phenomenal. There were even three types of omelets, which made me more than satisfied.

Ratt-kun and Frank are postponing their departure by one day to attend tomorrow’s dinner. Ratt-kun stays because of the hotel’s famous cuisine where the dinner will be held. And Frank is because, in his words, “I don’t really care about the princess, but Heinz’s reactions are too funny to miss.” Truly typical of him.

The day after tomorrow, we’ll hurriedly head north to the frontlines. Our destination is the northernmost Bodru Fortress.

Since coming to this academy, I’ve met quite a few important people. Is this what military academies are like?

The next morning, as I left the dining hall after breakfast, I spotted a large shadow standing at the entrance. Beside it was a small girl wrapped in a white coat, waving her hands energetically when she noticed me. It was the time when students leaving for home after breakfast were steadily filing out of the dorms.

The mix of envious looks at someone being waved at by a cute girl, and the annoyance at having the exit blocked at such a busy time, all converged and pierced me, Lux, like daggers. Flustered, I approached the pair.

“Good morning. Are you here for Heinz? I’ll call him for you.” (Lux)

“Good morning! Heinz too, but how about we all go out and have some fun? Can you gather everyone for me?” (Beretta)

“We’ll wait outside so as not to disturb anyone.” (Verger)

General Verger, noticing that he was blocking the entrance, hunched apologetically.

Is this man truly the greatest general in Remnos? At least on the surface, he’s the only one guarding her, so he must be competent.

In any case, I left them waiting and went to call Heinz and the others from their rooms. Heinz and Ratt were easy to find, but no matter how much I knocked, Frank didn’t answer. Maybe he was still asleep or already out. Giving up on Frank, I quickly got ready and rushed back to the dorm entrance. There, Sonia had joined Beretta, and the two were chatting and laughing together.

When Sonia noticed me, she gave a small wave and greeted.

“Good morning.” (Sonia)

“Good morning.” (Lux)

I replied, and Beretta grinned mischievously as she sidled up to me.

I know what you’re implying, but isn’t that a bit crude, Princess?

Not long after, Heinz and Ratt arrived. Heinz seemed slightly irritated.

“Beretta, at least consider your position.” (Heinz)

He said reproachfully.

“Oh my, and who was it that suddenly went off to a neighboring country on their own?” (Beretta)

She shot back, leaving him speechless.

“Alright, shall we go? Any recommendations?” (Beretta)

At her words, we all looked at Ratt-kun. Thanks to his work on the school newspaper, Ratt-kun was now the go-to expert on all things in the town of Rodon.

Ratt-kun, now the center of attention, said, “Sure, but if I guide you, it’s going to turn into a gourmet tour. You alright with that?”

“Sounds wonderful. Just be sure to save some room for dinner.” (Beretta)

She said with a laugh.

“If we’re going, let’s move quickly. We’re drawing too much attention.” (Heinz)

Though it seemed like Verger, the bear-like general, was the real reason for the stares, we followed Heinz’s lead and headed out into town.
