Mathias Roar Beretta

Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

We were assigned the mission to guard the princess of Remnos, but that was about the only news we received. We were not informed about the details of the mission. In other words, we were clearly told that we were only to be the Princess’s conversation partners and not expected to act as combatants. Whether I felt frustrated or not, personally, I wasn’t particularly bothered.

It was strange for us, who hadn’t even been at the military academy for a year, to be selected for the task of guarding a high-ranking individual. That being said, it wasn’t something I could completely accept, and I attended the end-of-term ceremony with a somewhat ambiguous feeling. The closing speech for the second semester was once again given by the vice principal.

As expected, Linkert-san rarely appeared in public. Once the speech was over, it was time for a long holiday. The atmosphere in the auditorium was filled with excitement.

“Now, remember to take pride as soldiers and don’t let yourselves get too carried away! That will be all!” (??)

Once the greetings from the vice chairman were over, the students rushed to the doors, eager to leave the auditorium. The instructors watched without saying much, probably turning a blind eye as long as there were no fights. We watched the chaos from a distance and, once things settled down, leisurely left the auditorium.

For now, we gathered in the newspaper club’s room.

We lit the stove, and just as we were about to relax, Heinz spoke first.

“Sorry, everyone. It’s my fault.” (Heinz)

“What happened?” (Rick)

Rick-san, Ratt-kun, and Frank, who weren’t participating in the guard mission, asked. Since we couldn’t talk in class, they seemed quite curious.

“Actually…” (Lux)

When I told them about the secret mission to guard the princess of Remnos…

“Well, that’s… unexpected…” (Frank)

Even Frank looked at me in disbelief.

“So why is Heinz apologizing?” (Ratt)

Ratt-kun asked, and Heinz sighed deeply.

“That princess… the one who’s coming… her name is Beretta, and I’m sure she requested me because she knows I belong to the newspaper club.” (Heinz)

“That Beretta-sama is a relative to Heinz-kun, but are you that close?” (Rick)

Rick continued.

“Huh? Didn’t I mention it? Beretta is the same age as me.” (Heinz)

“So, she requested Heinz, does that mean she… feels that way about him!?” (Hana)

Hana imagined an unfulfilled love between the princess and Heinz, but immediately Heinz said.

“No, no, that’s not the case at all. She’s more like a little sister to me.” (Heinz)

The moment Heinz said this, the door to the newspaper club burst open with a loud bang! A small girl with a ponytail, her left hand on her hip and her right hand pointing at Heinz, appeared.

“Who are you calling a little sister!! You’re the little brother!!” (Mathias)

She shouted as she entered.

The girl stretched out her right hand and struck a dramatic pose, while Heinz placed his hand on his forehead and sighed again. Then, Lite and Lev stood up and knelt, showing their respect. That meant…

“Huh? Could that girl be the princess?” (Sonia)

Sonia, looking confused, referred to the girl as “that girl” in a flustered way. Then, she quickly covered her mouth. Seeing this, the girl finally lowered her hand.

“Very well. You are the newspaper club I’ve heard about, right? If so, I would like to be treated the same as Heinz over there. The two kneeling are Heinz’s bodyguards. As I said, could you please treat me the same way?” (Mathias)

Even though Lite and Lev were still confused, she said.

“This is an order.” (Heinz)

The two were returned to their seats, just as Heinz had once said. Once they were seated, the girl nodded with satisfaction before speaking again.

“Now, let me properly introduce myself. I am Mathias Roar Beretta, like an ‘older sister’ to Heinz. You know why I’m here, right? I’ll be relying on you for a while!” (Mathias)

Upon hearing that, Heinz made an unusual gesture, sticking out his tongue.

“What’s with the ‘older sister’ thing? You used to wet the bed longer than I did!” (Heinz)

“What did you say!? Don’t bring up childhood stories! Heinz, have you forgotten that I kept your bed-wetting secret!?” (Mathias)

“Hah! You’re the one who’s always acting like you’re doing me a favor! Stop bringing up those old things!” (Heinz)

“What did you say!!” (Mathias)

While we were standing there, stunned, not knowing where to begin commenting on the situation, the usually calm Heinz and the princess of a neighboring country were arguing about bedwetting, a large man stalked out from the entrance to the clubroom.

He was bigger than the door, so he had to bend down to enter. I’d never seen such a big man before. I thought he was a bear.

The big man said…

“Ugh! Beretta-sama, Heinz-sama, must you go this far? Everyone is surprised.” (Verger)

At that, the two of them finally stopped arguing.

“Verger, you’ve come. No wonder the security is so lax.” (Heinz)

“General Verger!? This person!?” (Lite)

Lite exclaimed in surprise at Heinz’s words.

Wait, is this person famous?

“He’s called the strongest general of Remnos. There’s even a saying that children stop crying just by hearing the name of Hero Verger. This is the first time I’ve met him…” (Lite)

Lite looked at General Verger with respect. Next to him, Lev had the same expression.

So, he’s a hero from the neighboring country.

“However… wasn’t the mission supposed to be the day after tomorrow? Why now, suddenly?” (Heinz)

“Ha-ha! It’s a surprise! Aren’t you happy, Heinz?” (Mathias)

She puffed out her chest and pointed dramatically at Heinz again.

Ah, this princess gives off a vibe similar to Bianca.
