Mayor Rishu’s Daily Life

“Huh? Rishu-san, what are you doing here?” (Adventurer)

The largest tavern in the Fourth Town was bustling with craftsmen and sailors. Adventurers who had come for lunch spotted Rishu drinking at the farthest table. Even though it was daytime, several bottles of liquor surrounded her, most of them already empty.

“The mayor’s been like this every day recently.” (Craftsman)

“It’s practically her reserved seat now.” (Sailor)

The craftsmen and sailors chimed in.

“What about your official duties?” (Adventurer)

“Nngh?” (Rishu)

When the adventurers approached and called out to her in a worried voice, Rishu replied in a voiceless voice. She was completely drunk. Then, she waved her right hand loosely, offering a casual greeting.

“Oh, it’s you adventurers. What are you doing here?” (Rishu)

“We came for lunch. Rishu-san, what about you? What are you doing?” (Adventurer)

Rishu took a gulp from the remaining liquor in her bottle and downed it in one go.

“Me? What am I doing? …I wonder what I’m doing.” (Rishu)

The cheerful atmosphere plummeted into a freezing silence, leaving the adventurers stunned.

“Idiot! It’s because Arc-sama got married…” (Adventurer)

The adventurers hastily shut their mouths, but Rishu had already started talking and wouldn’t stop.

“Hahaha! Laugh it up, adventurers. I’m just a woman who couldn’t even confess to the person I’ve loved all this time. It ended before it even started.” (Rishu)

“She’s been like this for a while now.” (Sailor)

“You’re better off not getting involved.” (Sailor)

The sailors at the counter warned the adventurers.

“Hey, you sailors, I can hear you, you know. Keep it down!” (Rishu)

Rishu shot a glare at the counter and then started rambling again.

“Sure, it’s my fault for not confessing or taking any concrete action. Yes, I’ll admit that. But Arc-kun, knowing full well how I felt, made me mayor and dumped all these menial tasks on me—how is that fair? Just so we’re clear, this isn’t a criticism of the lord. I’m simply discussing the validity of his actions. Don’t you agree?” (Rishu)

She used overly complicated words to indirectly criticize Arc, but her roundabout way of speaking made her argument incomprehensible.

“Still, using someone and then discarding them is unforgivable from a woman’s perspective. Not that I’m talking about Arc-sama, of course. Just speaking in general terms.” (Female Adventurer)

One female adventurer seemed to understand Rishu’s convoluted complaint and offered support. However, Rishu quickly dismissed the effort.

“No, no… I wasn’t discarded. I wasn’t even picked up in the first place. Hah. Hahaha. Ahahaha!” (Rishu)

“What do we do now?” (Adventurer)

Seeing Rishu laughing hysterically with her pupils dilated and tears seemingly dried up, the adventurers were completely at a loss.

“Um… Would I not be good enough?” (Young Adventurer)

The tavern fell silent. A young, reckless adventurer had shouted.

“I’ve admired you, Rishu-san, since before I came to Mikanda! I know I’m no match for Arc-sama in skill or status, but I’ve watched you all this time. I can make you happy! Am I not good enough?” (Young Adventurer)

“Ohhh!” (??)

“Go for it!” (??)

The unexpected confession caused the tavern to erupt with excitement. Even the sailors, who had been keeping their distance earlier, now crowded around, jeering and cheering. Everyone, not just the adventurers, waited breathlessly for Rishu’s response as she sat with her head lowered.

Grrrrrr—

What came from Rishu was a loud snore. She had fallen fast asleep, her snores echoing through the room.

“…Rishu-san’s asleep.” (Adventurer)

“You’ve got to be kidding me…” (Young Adventurer)

The young adventurer collapsed to his knees as the entire tavern burst into laughter.

“Gahaha! Tough luck, kid. That was a once-in-a-lifetime confession!” (Sailor)

“A fourth-rank adventurer dating the mayor? Try again in ten years!” (Sailor)

They comforted him while mercilessly teasing him for his boldness.

Bang!

The tavern door slammed open, and a furious man stormed in.

“Is Rishu-dono here?!” (Hausar)

It was Vice Mayor Hausar.

The adventurers quickly moved away from Rishu, leaving her exposed. Hausar found her easily and marched toward her with heavy steps.

“Ugh! Drinking again during the day?! I won’t let this slide today. You’re going to work!” (Hausar)

“Nnnnnnn?” (Rishu)

Woken by Hausar’s shouting, Rishu squinted at him, looking dazed and hungover.

“Ugh, so drunk… Hey, didn’t I tell the tavern owner not to serve her during the day?!” (Hausar)

“But, but Rishu-san ordered me to serve her under mayoral authority…” (Tavern Owner)

“I’m countermanding that! No more daytime drinks for her. This is a vice mayoral order!” (Hausar)

The flustered tavern owner now found himself scolded on Rishu’s behalf as well.

“Come on, Rishu-dono! Get up! There’s work to be done!” (Hausar)

Hausar forcibly pulled Rishu to her feet, lending his shoulder to help her walk unsteadily.
Rishu, tall for a woman, was too much for the short and aging Hausar to carry outright.

“Uh, about the bill…” (Tavern Owner)

“Charge it to the Warden household~” (Rishu)

“No! Pay for what you ate yourself!” (Hausar)

With Rishu swaying and Hausar fuming, the mayor and vice mayor brought chaos to the tavern before leaving like a storm.
