Adventurer Mia’s Daily Life

“Is everyone here? Alright! Then let’s get going. Ever since the port in the Fourth Town began full-scale operations, we’ve had worked every single week. As adventurers, we’re so grateful! Merchants, please continue working hard so you don’t run out of jobs for us adventurers.” (Mia)
The merchants burst out laughing at Mia’s departure greeting.
Transporting industrial goods from the Third Town to the port of the Fourth Town was a task. Transporting them individually would be time-consuming and risky, so a group transport system was adopted, with many merchants accompanied by many adventurers for escort.
Lately, with the port in the Fourth Town fully operational, the frequency of such transports has increased, keeping adventurers busy with escort and transport duties.
Mia, a Rank-3 adventurer, acted as the leader of these group transports, directing both adventurers and merchants.
“By the way, Nee-chan. I heard you were in that fight with the church the other day. How did it go?” (??)
“Hahaha! Do you want to hear about it? You want to hear about it? Very well! Let me tell you. Our Warden Army, led by Tyr-sama, set up camp halfway up the mountain and…” (Mia)
Mia was popular with the merchants because she kept the journey entertaining. Today, she regaled them with tales of a recent battle, telling the story with humor and flair, like a bard. While Mia’s long-winded stories aren’t well-received by her colleagues and Arc, the merchants engaged in the tedious transport work appreciate her anecdotes, as they make the time fly by.
“By the way, there are some unfamiliar faces here.” (??)
The merchants looked satisfied after listening to hours of epic battle tales, but one of them pointed at several nervous adventurers.
“Oh, sharp eye! These are apprentice adventurers entrusted to me from the Adventurer Class at the university. Oh, how envious I am! Back in my day, as a young girl, I was told to watch and learn from my seniors. But now, proper instruction is provided! Learning from a teacher improves their skills far faster. Soon, Mikanda will be brimming with talented adventurers. I’ll have to work hard not to get left behind by these youngsters.” (Mia)
Escorting merchants is one of the most important duties for adventurers. And it’s something better learned through actual participation than in a classroom. Thus, at Minerva’s request, Mia gladly agreed to provide hands-on training, bringing along several students from the Adventurer School in the First City for this group transport.
“Listen up! Building trust with merchants through communication is important, but the most crucial thing is to protect the merchants and their cargo. That’s why adventurers position themselves to surround the merchants’ wagons like this.” (Mia)
The apprentices, who had been left out of the earlier banter with the merchants, hurriedly began taking notes, hanging on to Mia’s every word. Since Mia’s instructions were always lengthy, note-taking was quite the challenge.
“Where are you all from? If you’re not from Mikanda, that’s understandable, but you’ll need to learn the lay of the land. For example, imagine where bandits might hide. Put yourself in their shoes. See that rocky area over there? It’s completely in shadow from this angle. In such cases, you’d ride over on horseback to check it out.” (Mia)
Mia’s personality was naturally well-liked, and she was known for being considerate. Even with numerous responsibilities as the leader of the group transport, she taught the apprentices with enthusiasm.
As a Rank-3 adventurer, she’s a figure of awe for the apprentices, who eagerly jot down her every word with sparkling eyes.
And then night fell.
“Alright, we’ll camp here tonight. Since it’s already dark, hurry and set up your tents.” (Mia)
The journey from the Third Town to the Fourth Town takes about two days on horseback but roughly seven days with heavily loaded wagons. Mia, as the leader, decided everything from the schedule and camp locations to overseeing camp setup and even meal planning.
After dinner, the merchants went to sleep, but for the adventurers, this marked the start of their real work.
“Alright, everyone. Adventurers don’t have time to sleep! Guard duty is our most critical task. Nighttime is the most dangerous because it’s when we’re most vulnerable. Adventurers must take turns keeping watch.” (Mia)
Mia assigned watch shifts to the adventurers, pairing each apprentice with a senior adventurer. She, then, promptly went to sleep herself.
Though an adventurer, Mia didn’t participate in night watch duty. It was not because she was abusing her position as leader, but because her chatter would keep everyone awake. Her fellow adventurers half-forced her to go to bed.
Repeating such a routine, the group safely arrived at the Fourth City.
“Alright, everyone. Use what you’ve learned during this apprentice experience to further your studies at university.” (Mia)
“Oh? Oh my, if it isn’t Mia. I thought I heard a ruckus.” (Rishu)
After finishing the final task of transferring wagon cargo onto handcarts to carry them to the port, Mia was giving a long speech to the students when Rishu appeared out of nowhere.
“Oh! It’s Rishu-san! Apprentice adventurers, this is none other than Rishu-san, the Kingdom’s famed ‘Otherworldly Adventurer’. Ah, since it’s such a special occasion, let’s have a meal together! Opportunities to dine with a Rank-2 adventurer are rare! I’ve just received my reward, so I’ll treat you all!” (Mia)
Grabbing Rishu’s arm, Mia introduced her to the students. Though, there was hardly a need, as every adventurer in the kingdom already knew her.
“Uh, I actually have work after this. Also, I may be Rank-2, but their instructor is Rank-1, so…” (Rishu)
Although Rishu hesitated, she showed no real intent to resist. Inwardly, she was thrilled to have a reason to skip work.
“Well, fine. If it’s come to this, I’ll enjoy myself. I’ll leave today’s tasks to Deputy Mayor Housa.” (Rishu)
Pretending to give in reluctantly, Rishu led the group to the town’s best restaurant.
What followed was a grand feast.
Mia covered the apprentices’ meals entirely, while she and Rishu competed in a drinking contest, starting in the afternoon. Drunk, the two began dancing around the restaurant with arms around each other, turning it into a nighttime tavern. The commotion continued until Hausar showed up, dragged Rishu away by the ear, and brought her home.
“Listen up, adventurers! You’re not fully-fledged unless you can drink!” (Mia)
Trying hard to act like a teacher, a drunken Mia ended up slurring her words, subjecting the apprentices to an “adventurer’s baptism.”
“Listen carefully! Spending all the money you earned in one day, that’s the true spirit of an adventurer. Savings? Who needs them! Wait, where’s Rishu-san? She got taken away by the Deputy Mayor? Oh well. I’ll cover her share of the bill. I just got paid, so I’m loaded! And if I run out, I’ll just earn more. Mikanda is full of jobs these days.” (Mia)
Left alone, Mia was in high spirits but ended up spending nearly all the money she had earned that day, even covering Rishu’s share.
