*Today’s Diary*
The school festival will finally come to an end tomorrow.
Perhaps as a reaction to all that happened on the first and second days, today, the third day, is quite calm. In the end, the newspaper we created ended up printing a total of 3,500 copies, including the initial run.
Thinking that our newspaper was read by 3,500 people feels truly surreal.
The woman who appeared on the second day and seemed to be Slar-san, the founder of the school newspaper from 10 years ago, disappeared into the crowd when I chased after her a little late.
She was a mysterious person. I did mention it to everyone, but to be honest, I’m not entirely sure if I really met Slar-san. It feels a bit like it was an illusion.
In any case, the school festival, where various things happened, will come to an end tomorrow.
—
The events that happened to us over just four days have brought about some significant changes.
First, it was revealed that Rinkert-san was the chairman. However, the relationship remained unchanged, and she said she wanted us to continue visiting as before. That was exactly what we wished for. From now on, Lite and Lev would also be able to accompany us. This was a big change.
And then there’s Follet-san. I got to know the Princess’ younger brother.
I didn’t know what kind of change this would bring, but aside from the noble Maria and Heinz, this meeting would normally only be possible from afar. It was a mysterious experience.
As for Lamie-senpai… well, never mind.
Lastly, this was the biggest change. As a result of the school newspaper’s great success, with support from the school, it had been decided that we would officially revive the newspaper club. The clubroom would be the library of the old school building. We had also been granted permission to officially manage the keys.
Our motivation was high after the great success, and we had decided to carry on Slar-san’s will by creating a newspaper about once a month.
Of course, we wouldn’t be printing 1,000 or 2,000 copies like this time, but it seemed that the articles about delicious shops in town that Ratt-kun had energetically gathered have unexpectedly been well received by the citizens, so we would tentatively distribute about 100 to 200 copies outside the school.
Ratt-kun seemed eager, exclaiming, “I need to find the next recommended shop!”. He was already starting to move. In the future, the town information would likely center around Ratt-kun’s passion and Hana, who was a true Rodon native.
The president of the newspaper club was Maria… No, it was me.
This was due to the process of elimination. First, Heinz, Lite, and Lev were exchange students from neighboring countries, so although only the upper echelons of the school know Heinz’s true identity, it was understandable that they wouldn’t be favorable.
Furthermore, since the school newspaper would require collaboration with school personnel, instructors, and librarians, it would be better for someone who lives in the dormitory to take on the role. This meant Rick-san, Maria, and Hana were eliminated from consideration.
The remaining candidates were me, Ratt-kun, Frank, and Sonia, but since Ratt-kun was in charge of the articles about the town, he’s excluded. Moreover, Frank declared, “I don’t mean to say it myself, but I think it’s better if I’m not in such a role”, and though it felt bad to exclude Frank, I agreed that he’s right.
So, oddly enough, it was either me or Sonia.
I certainly couldn’t say to Sonia, “I don’t want to do it, so you do it”, so I became the president, and Sonia became the vice president.
Well, being the president didn’t mean I have to do much. At the moment, my role would be as the apology representative when something went wrong in the articles and the key manager.
In any case, the old school library… since it was a hassle to differentiate from the new school building, we would just call it the old library, but it becoming our base was quite significant. The consultation for our goal of finding the ‘hidden room of Duke Lengrad’ was perfectly suited for the old library, where few people came.
Also, it was getting to be the season where eating lunch in the courtyard was becoming harsh. During winter, it would serve as a lunch space for us as well. It felt like a sanctioned secret base, which was a little exciting.
So, here we were, on the final day of the school festival, except for the alternating duties of the display booth guides, holding a big cleaning session in the old library. It was fine to do it later, but I enjoyed the stalls yesterday, and since the old library had felt strongly like ‘borrowing’, it suddenly felt like ‘our base’, and I wanted to make it a pleasant place to have lunch as soon as possible.
Of course, we meticulously wiped down the tables and the various intricately carved heavy bookshelves, dusting them off, and it seemed the old library had regained its luster… or at least it felt that way. Occasionally, during the shift changes for the display area and breaks, someone would buy snacks from the stalls, and the cleaning continued cheerfully.
“Isn’t it about time for the school festival to end?” (Heinz)
Heinz suddenly stopped working and looked out the window. Since the window faces the research building, there weren’t any stalls over there, so it was probably just a feeling.
“Well then, we should wrap it up for now.” (Sonia)
Sonia said while also looking out the window.
After the citizens left and the general public viewing ended, a big bonfire would be lit in the practical area, and a celebration would be held exclusively for school personnel.
“Well then, let’s stop here.” (Lux)
I said as I approached the window I had opened for cleaning, intending to close it.
Just then, a gust of wind blew in through the window. It was a cold breeze heralding the end of autumn.
