School Festival Preparations (4): The School Newspaper is Complete!

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

*Today’s Diary*

It’s the final day of the preparation period for the school festival.  We’ve been busy running around.  Unlike Sura-senpai, who made the school newspaper by himself, we were a group of 10 working on various things, but we just didn’t have enough time.

Each of us was busy with interviews and writing articles for our assigned sections, and although it was hectic, the rush felt fresh and even enjoyable. Sonia and I, were in charge of exhibiting the school newspaper from 10 years ago and helping everyone out.

Just when we thought we were progressing with the exhibit preparations, Heinz called me over to help with writing articles, or Maria asked me to run errands, so I worked hard.

By the way, we found two or three promising pieces of information related to the Seven Mysteries, which we are really after.

Since we plan to investigate these thoroughly after the school festival, we’ve only included a small section for them in the newspaper.  We don’t want them to stand out too much anyway.

And so, evening arrived.

Although it might seem quite rough if a professional looked at it, our school newspaper, which we made, was successfully completed.

“…It’s done.” (Lux)

In the middle of the biggest table in the library of the old school building, the school newspaper from 10 years ago was placed. This was the result of our hard work over the past few days.

One of the main features was a map of the school festival booths, showing where each shop was located with illustrations.  Sonia drew the illustrations, and even modestly speaking, they were looking pretty good. There was also a heartwarming story that happened between the citizens and students during the recent Harvest Festival, and we dedicated a lot of space to that.

Another article about recommended shops in town takes up just as much space.

Initially, we weren’t planning to dedicate that much space to it, but thanks to Ratt-kun’s enthusiasm and Hana’s wealth of information as a true native of Rodon, the content turned out far richer than we expected.

Since it also served as an appeal to the citizens, we decided it was fine. Of course, we made sure to introduce the up-and-coming confectioner, Holand-san, as well. Other than that, we included as many small articles as possible that were filled out from the survey responses.

Some of them were just small rumors, but we introduced them as “rumors” just as they were. In fact, students planning to have stalls heard about the school newspaper tickets from somewhere and approached us, offering tickets in exchange for a feature, so we ended up collecting more discount tickets than we had expected.

We figured there was a chance the tickets might go to waste, so we increased the number of winners by adding more small articles and distributing the tickets accordingly. The articles, along with the number of tickets each contributor received, were listed in the newspaper.

If you bring the newspaper and proof of identity to Sura-senpai’s school newspaper exhibit, you can exchange them for tickets.

That’s why, during the school festival, we plan to take turns in pairs as attendants in the exhibition room.

As for the popular Saras-senpai’s bakery coupons, they were given to those whose articles were prominently featured. We made sure to clearly mention “Bakery Coupons” in the newspaper as well. As a result, the content of the newspaper became quite substantial. Originally, we were thinking of just one page on the front, but it turned into a two-page spread, front and back.

“Well then, now all we have to do is print it.” (Lux)

I said as I picked up the newspaper. We had already arranged with the librarian in the new school building to print it for us.

“I’ll run over and get it printed. So, how many copies do we need?” (Lite)

Lite offered.

“Wouldn’t 100 be enough?” Sonia said. (Sonia)

“Isn’t that too few? We’re going to distribute them to all the booths, right?” (Frank)

Frank questioned.

Although we originally planned to distribute the newspapers by hand near the school gate, the executive committee suggested that since it would also promote the booths, we should place them in a corner of each stall. We also planned to place some in the exhibition room where we’d be.

“So, how many booths are there this year again?” (Heinz)

Heinz started counting the booths on the map, and there were 35 in total. With Saras-senpai’s bakery included, that made 36.

“If we place 10 copies at each booth… we’ll need 400, considering extras, won’t we, degozaru?” (Hana)

Hana suggested.

“Then, let’s round it up to 500.” (Rick)

Rick proposed.

“Won’t it be too much of a burden to ask for 500 copies for free?” (Lev)

Lev worried about the cost.

“Oh, don’t worry about that. If it costs money, my family will cover it, so there’s no need to worry. I’ve already discussed it with the librarian.” (Maria)

Maria, the daughter of the Bell Household, one of the five great noble households, gave a reassuring answer. Maria continued.

“Even if it costs money, how about printing 1,000 copies?” (Maria)

“1,000 copies? Isn’t that too many?” (Ratt)

Ratt-kun said anxiously. Even though the Bell Household would cover the cost, spending that much made us a bit hesitant. However, Maria shook her head.

“I think 1,000 might even be too few. Lots of Rodon citizens will come to the school festival, right? If everyone uses this map of the booths, it’ll disappear in no time.” (Maria)

Maria’s insight, which had impressed us during the class combat exercises, couldn’t be underestimated.

Since Frank and I, who spent a lot of time with her at the base, knew how accurate her judgment was, we agreed with Maria. When she added, “If there are any leftovers, we can send them to our families, and they’ll be happy to learn about our school life”, we decided to print the significant amount of 1,000 copies.

“Alright, 1,000 it is. It’ll take a while since it’s a large amount, so I’ll hurry and get it done.” (Lite)

Lite said as he rushed off.

Though we felt bad for the librarian, we decided to rely on their help for this. After Lite left and we sat down with a sigh of relief, there was a knock on the door of the old school building, accompanied by a faint sweet smell.

“Who could it be? Come in.” (Heinz)

Heinz called out.

The one who peeked in was Saras-senpai.

“Hey, good job. Is the newspaper coming along smoothly?” (Saras)

Since Saras-senpai had kindly invited me to help with the bakery, I had told him about our school newspaper project.

“Good job, Senpai. We just finished, and Lite went to get it printed.” (Lux)

I answered.

“I see, then I came at just the right time.” (Saras)

Saras-senpai said, placing the bag he was carrying on the table. The sweet aroma was coming from it.

“I can’t guarantee the taste, but I made these as test batches of the products I’ll be selling tomorrow. I thought I’d bring them to reward you for your hard work. Would you like some?” (Saras)

Hearing that, Ratt-kun jumped up from his seat.

“Saras-senpai, does that mean… those are the legendary bakery…?!” (Ratt)

“Legendary is an exaggeration, but these were popular last year.” (Saras)

Saras-senpai replied.

Upon hearing that, Ratt-kun dropped to his knees and began to pray toward Saras-senpai, leaving him puzzled.

Ratt-kun… you wanted to eat them that badly…?

“Come on, while they’re fresh and still the best, help yourselves, and make sure to save some for Lite too.” (Saras)

Saras-senpai urged us.

With a shout of “Wow!” we eagerly grabbed the bread.

Freshly baked, legendary bakery. I don’t have enough words to describe its taste.

But one thing is for sure. In that moment, we all felt like we were in heaven.
