“Hehe… I’m looking forward to seeing it completed.” (Alexandra)

In the carriage on the way back from the tailor, Alexandra was chuckling to herself. It seemed that the dress designed by Baroness Selway had greatly pleased her. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to see it. According to Alexandra, “It’s a surprise for the day”. So, in exchange, I won’t be revealing my outfit to her until the day as well. I conveyed the idea of my outfit based on what I wore in my previous life… but Baroness Selway’s eyes lit up, and I was bombarded with questions.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the celebration.

“But you know… I’ll be staying behind, and it gets boring when things like this happen. Although Monica brings me delicious food, so that’s nice…” (Casparleague)

“Yeah, sorry about that. But I can’t exactly have people knowing about you, Cas.” (Harold)

I pat the grumbling Casparleague, who was pouting on my lap, and gave a wry smile.

I really would love to bring my partner along and enjoy the event to the fullest, but… yeah.

“More importantly, Your Highness Harold, the celebration is an important event where nobles from all over the kingdom gather once a year. Given Your Highness’ recent achievements, it’s possible some unsavory people may approach you.” (Monica)

“Don’t worry. I have no interest in the throne succession struggle, and eventually, I plan to step down and marry into the Chevalier Household. Besides… Monica will keep those people away for me, right?” (Harold)

“Leave it to me. This Monica Ashton will drive away any and all riffraff.” (Monica)

“I’m counting on you.” (Harold)

As Monica straightened her back with confidence, I offered her words of trust and expectation.

As we enjoyed our conversation, the carriage arrived at the Chevalier Household’s townhouse.

“See you tomorrow, Xandra.” (Harold)

“Yes, see you tomorrow.” (Alexandra)

After parting ways with Alexandra, we head back to the royal palace.

And then…

“Oh no…” (Harold)

When I arrived at the royal palace, the first thing that caught my eyes was Wilfred and Raphael chatting at the entrance.

I’ve never seen the two of them like this before.

“…What shall we do?” (Monica)

“It’d be weird to turn around now. Let’s just ignore them and head inside quickly, unless they try to engage.” (Harold)

With that plan in mind, the carriage pulled up to the entrance, and we quickly got out.

But then…

“Hey, Harold. Were you out somewhere?” (Raphael)

“Uh, yes…” (Harold)

Naturally, I couldn’t escape, and Raphael caught me with a smile.

“Hmm… more importantly, have you given that matter any thought?” (Raphael)

‘That matter’ Raphael was referring to was undoubtedly his persistent request to join his faction. I had refused him countless times, but he just wouldn’t let it go.

“I’m sorry, but my answer hasn’t changed.” (Harold)

“You don’t have to be so cold. Besides, Wilfred has brought us a rather beneficial proposal…” (Raphael)

“A beneficial proposal?” (Harold)

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

“Brother Harold… It’s true we don’t share the same mother, and we’re indeed competing for the throne. But if we continue to resent each other, it won’t benefit either of us… or this kingdom.” (Wilfred)

“So, Wilfred suggested that at the upcoming celebration, we could show the nobles that there’s no bad blood between us brothers.” (Raphael)

“No, that’s impossible.” (Harold)

Oops, I responded reflexively.

But why are these two suddenly talking like they’re living in some dream world? In ‘Enhaz’, the protagonist eventually reconciles with Cardis and Raphael, and the three of them work together to save the heroines. But at least for now, that’s not where we’re at. Besides, why are they trying to drag me, the perpetual antagonist who opposes them until the end, into this?

“Why not? Sure, there have been tensions between us, but I’m willing to put it all behind me. If it means the brothers can unite and lead this kingdom in a better direction…” (Wilfred)

“Let me ask you this. Are you truly okay with Cardis, our eldest brother, becoming the next king? And Raphael, you’re fine with that as well?” (Harold)

“…” (Wilfred/Raphael)

The moment I cut off Wilfred with that question, both of them fall silent.

There’s no way Raphael, who can’t stand Queen Margaret, would ever do something that would please that woman. And the fact that Wilfred has nothing to say means he isn’t in favor of Cardis inheriting the throne either. In other words… this guy also has ambitions for the crown.

After joining the faction as Cardis’ right-hand man, he may have become greedy after the incident with the Holy Kingdom and becoming head of the Royal Guard Division. Or maybe, that ambition was always lying dormant inside him.

“In any case, I have no intention of going along with this, so feel free to proceed with just the three of you. Monica, let’s go.” (Harold)

“As you wish.” (Monica)

Leaving behind Wilfred, who glares at me bitterly, and Raphael, who smirked wryly, I headed back to my room.
