Frank Wants to Disassemble (1): Frank Sighs

*Today’s diary*

Yesterday, when we were all heading back to the dorm, Frank made a request, “I want to disassemble your beloved gun, Counter”.

When I asked for the reason, it turned out to be very typical of Frank.

In the Engineer (Tech) area of the Military Building, there is a special room not found in other specialty. This room, commonly known as the “Workroom,” is stocked with a large number of tools that an individual could never own and is apparently a place that is the envy of people like Frank.

The workshop is not very large, and to prevent tools from being lost, it is available by reservation for only one person per day. Furthermore, first-year students cannot use it during the first semester, and even in the second semester, only one student per week gets access. As a result of a strict lottery among the nine first-year Engineer (Tech) students, Frank’s turn to use the workshop has finally arrived tomorrow evening.

Frank enrolled in this academy because he loves disassembling and assembling guns. In the future, he doesn’t want to become a soldier but rather a gunsmith. I heard that having military experience gives you an advantage as a gunsmith, which is why he enrolled in the academy.

Being Frank, when the opportunity to use the workshop came up, he wanted to disassemble something special.

That’s when he set his sights on my beloved gun, Counter.

“Of course, I’m not just going to disassemble it. I’ll also do maintenance on parts that are normally out of reach, so it’s not a bad deal for you either, Lux.” (Frank)

If that’s the case, I wouldn’t mind lending it to you. Plus, Frank said it’s fine if I want to be present on the day.

So, tomorrow, I’ll be entrusting my beloved gun, Counter, to Frank.

After school, I headed towards the Military Building with Frank. As I was thinking, it was rare to be alone with Frank,

“Being alone with you is kind of rare, Lux.” (Frank)

It seemed Frank was thinking the same thing.

“Oh, by the way, Frank, is it okay for others to be present in the workshop besides me?” (Lux)

“Well, as long as they don’t interfere with my work, it’s fine.” (Frank)

If anything goes missing, Frank would be held responsible, so as long as we respect that, there’s no problem. By the way, I heard that if tools are lost, the Engineer (Tech) who reserved the room has to pay for it, and they are banned from using the workshop for three months.

Anyway, when we arrive at the barracks, we headed first to the room of the Sniper Club leader. Since I informed them yesterday, they should be waiting for us.

When I knocked, I heared “Come in”, The voice was, of course, Lamie-senpai.

There are two reasons I reached out to Lamie-senpai. First, if she finds out later that I disassemble my beloved gun, Counter, without her knowing, she will complain, and it would be… well, annoying. No, she would definitely regret not being there, and that would be a hassle. The second reason is my main purpose, to ask about the location of the serial number on my beloved gun, Counter.

It was something that was bothering me when I was bedridden with a cold the other day, and it’s been bothering me ever since, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to look into it.

When I entered the room, Lamie-senpai was there as usual, along with Saras-senpai.

Wait, Bianca is here too.

“What do you mean by ‘Wait’!?” (Bianca)

Oh, did I say that out loud? Sorry, sorry. But today, I’m taking Lamie-senpai with me, so we can’t chat.

“I’m coming too, of course!” (Bianca)

Bianca declares boldly, but Frank calmly interjects.

“No, that’s definitely not okay.” (Frank)

“Sorry, Frank. When I told them about it, they both seemed more interested than I expected. If anything happens, I’ll take full responsibility, so could you bring Bianca along too?” (Lamie-senpai)

“So, when you say both, do you mean Saras-senpai too?” (Lux)

“Yeah. To be honest, seeing a rare gun being disassembled would be a great learning experience, so I’d really like to go along. But this is primarily Frank’s study time as an Engineer (Tech), and I thought it wouldn’t be appropriate to bring too many people, so I was going to refrain.” (Saras)

Saras-senpai is so mature. As expected of someone who has already been unofficially selected as a major. Compared to that, Bianca is…

“What? If you’ve got something to say, just say it!” (Bianca)

Bianca glared at me from below, having sensed my gaze. Seeing this exchange, Frank, who was usually calm, sighed.

“Hah… fine, all three of you can come. But if you interfere, I’ll kick you out, even if Lamie-senpai asks, so be ready for that.” (Frank)

“Why are you only saying that to me!?” (Bianca)

That’s exactly why, I think.

We had become a much larger group of five. Then, we moved towards the Engineer (Tech) floor of the Military Building. It was just across the hallway on the same floor. The Engineer (Tech) floor looked the same as the others.

As we walked, an Engineer (Tech) student exiting a classroom greets Frank with, “Hey, Frank”, and then, looked surprised to see Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai. It must look like Frank was leading them.

Well, he kind of is. I didn’t know, but apparently Saras-senpai is quite famous. He’s one of the people who played a key role in winning the interschool competition.

Just as we approach the Engineer (Tech) Club leader’s room…

“Sorry, but could you wait a moment? I’ll just go greet Bear, the Engineer (Tech) Club leader.” (Lamie/Saras)

Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai said as they stopped in their tracks.

“We’ll wait here, so please keep it short.” (Frank)

Frank said. He was probably the only person in the academy who could tell Lamie-senpai to be brief like that.

After a short while, Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai return.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.” (Lamie-senpai)

Frank, who was standing next to the club leader’s room, said, “Here it is”, and took out his key and opened the door.

Inside the room is a large table in the center, with various tools hanging densely on the walls, and countless others scattered around the floor. The interesting thing was that nothing was placed on top of the table.

“Feel free to use any of the chairs around here.” (Frank)

Following Frank’s words, I grabbed a nearby chair and pass the gun case containing my beloved Counter to him.

“Oh, it’s heavier than I thought… Ah, I see, it has metal plates inside. Do you always carry a gun case like this?” (Frank)

As Frank inspected the gun case, Lamie-senpai moves closer, saying, “Let me see”.

Now that I think about it, Lamie-senpai has never touched the gun case before. She’s really passionate when it comes to guns.

Frank and Lamie-senpai exchange a few words before finally taking out my beloved Counter.

When they do, both of them softly exclaim.

“Ohhh.” (Frank/Lamie)

They’ve both seen it countless times, but maybe it feels different when they touch it themselves?

I didn’t really understand, but I sat down in my chair while looking at Frank and Lamie-senpai, who seemed to get along strangely well.
