Fifth of Seven Mysteries (4): A Story Far Beyond the Seven Mysteries

“The Princess of Principality of Remnos…” (Lux)

The secret I (Lux) heard from Heinz was far more shocking than I had imagined.

I was just looking for the person who took the files.

A royal bloodline related to the princess, which would mean he’s one of the royalty, wouldn’t it?

He must have sensed my confusion because Heinz gave a small smile.

“That was my formal tone for public occasions. Well, it’s more comfortable to speak casually, so I’ll continue talking as I always have.” (Heinz)

Then, looking at Lite and Lev, he added.

“So, given the circumstances, there’s no need to be so formal with me in the academy.” (Heinz)

The two of them, who had been standing behind him, finally relaxed their shoulders.

“So, are you two something like Heinz’s bodyguards?” (Lux)

“That’s how it is. I told them it wasn’t necessary, but they insisted on sending them. The selection of personnel took some time, so I ended up joining at an unusual time. Oh, but it’s true that these two are first-year students at Remnos’ Military Academy, and among the top of their class at that.” (Heinz)

So, that’s why it was delayed until after the summer break. So then…

“Is there also a reason you didn’t enter the dorms?” (Lux)

“We would’ve been fine with the dorms, but Heinz-sama—well, Heinz didn’t like it, and it’s easier to receive messages from the homeland in an apartment, so that’s why we rented a place.” (Lite)

It was Lite who answered this.

“I see…” (Lux)

“Well, I’m sure Lux has a lot of questions, but as promised, I’ll talk about everything with everyone present. How about we do it somewhere private, like the old school library, and we’ll need to return the files, too.” (Heinz)

With Heinz’s words, the moonlit inquiry of that night came to a close.

The next day, everyone gathered at the old school library, Sonia, Maria, Hana, Rick, Ratt, Frank, and of course, myself and Heinz, along with Lite and Lev. Team Catrap was all there.

I had only told everyone, “It’s something really important”, so, they all looked a bit puzzled.

Brushing the dust off chairs that were rarely used, we each took a seat. Heinz stood in a spot where he could look at everyone, with Lite and Lev a step behind him. Then, Heinz began to speak.

“Well then, what I’m about to tell you might be quite surprising, and it may even make you angry. But I think of you all in Catrap as dear friends, so I want to tell you the truth. If possible, I’d like you to promise not to tell anyone else.” (Lux)

After saying this, he paused and looked at us. As everyone nodded quietly, Frank spoke up.

“I don’t know what you’re going to say, but if it involves any crime, I can’t promise that.” (Frank)

“Oh, there’s no need to worry about that. What I’m going to talk about won’t cause any trouble for you, the academy, this town, or this country.” (Heinz)

“…A country? You’re going pretty big here… alright, fine. I won’t tell anyone.” (Frank)

After confirming Frank’s agreement, Heinz continued.

“I’ll be honest. I only planned to reveal the truth today because Lux found out yesterday. Without that, I probably wouldn’t have spoken about it.” (Heinz)

With that introduction, he said.

“My real name is Murial Roar Heinz. I am the nephew of the princess of the Duchy of Lemnos.” (Heinz)

“What?!” (Ratt)

Ratt-kun exclaimed in surprise. Naturally, everyone else was too shocked to speak, except for Maria, who quietly nodded as if she had expected it.

“Wait, Maria, did you know?” (Lux)

I asked, and Maria shook her head.

“Not at all. I was just always curious. I thought Heinz might be nobility.” (Maria)

Heinz’s manners had always been impeccable, and his demeanor suited nobility. Maria had noticed these signs of nobility in his behavior.

“And he was also quite knowledgeable about noble matters.” (Heinz)

Heinz was indeed well-informed about noble affairs. I recalled when he had explained things about Maria’s family, the Bell Household.

“Oh, so that’s why his attendance number is 4.” (Rick)

Rick-san murmured.

Back when we enrolled, he had mentioned that numbers 1-3, and sometimes 4, were reserved for nobles… was it Heinz who said that?

Waiting for the murmuring to settle, Heinz continued.

“And Lite and Lev behind me were sent by my homeland to protect me.” (Heinz)

This was not particularly surprising. If Heinz was a significant figure from Remnos, it made sense that Lite and Lev’s off-season enrollment was related to him. Then, Heinz began to recount the events of the previous night, leading up to now, and everyone listened quietly.

“So, Heinz took the files, degozaru?” (Hana)

Hana muttered when there was a pause.

“Yeah. The night after I heard about it from Lux at dinner, Lite, Lev, and I took them. I hid the remaining files in my room until today.” (Heinz)

The missing files, now here, had been brought from Heinz’s room before this meeting.

“Why did you only return three files?” (Frank)

Frank, who had deduced they were hidden in the old school, asked.

“I wanted to make it seem like the rest of the files were also hidden here. By returning only three, I wanted to suggest the possibility of a single perpetrator.” (Heinz)

“Tsk, so we were just played.” (Frank)

Frank grumbled.

“Don’t pout. Your reasoning wasn’t wrong. If I weren’t the culprit, I’d have accepted it.” (Heinz)

Heinz responded to Frank, whose lips were pouted, with a smile.

“Why did you go to such lengths to take the files?” (Sonia)

Sonia asked.

“The Seven Mysteries.” (Heinz)

Heinz replied briefly.

“Would the Seven Mysteries really warrant that much?” (Sonia)

Sonia asked again, slightly furrowing her brows.

“Yes, to be precise, I’m searching for Duke Lengrad’s hidden room, which is supposedly somewhere within this academy. At first, I was searching randomly. Lite and Lev’s suspicious behavior behind the old school that Lux and Rick saw was due to that. I thought that, although it was just rumors from students, the Seven Mysteries might contain clues.” (Heinz)

“A hidden room? Have you figured out where it is?” Maria asked, but Heinz only let out a small sigh.

“If I’d found it, I wouldn’t have needed to investigate the Seven Mysteries late at night or read the academy newspaper while fighting sleep.”

“So, you slept during lectures every day because you were searching for the hidden room at night, degozaru?” (Hana)

“Yes, that’s right.” (Heinz)

So, that’s why Heinz was always dozing off.

“What do you expect to find in this hidden room?” (Sonia)

Sonia asked, to which Ratt-kun interjected excitedly.

“Treasure, maybe?!” (Ratt)

“Treasure, degozaru?!” (Hana)

Hana echoed, but Heinz promptly denied it.

“If the rumors I’ve heard are true, it’s not treasure… although, it might be even more valuable than that.” (Heinz)

“What do you mean?” (Lux)

I asked, and Heinz looked directly at me before pausing again. After a beat, he spoke.

“It might be the key to ending this pointless ‘sibling war’.” (Heinz)

Heinz had certainly said it.
