The Adventure Surrounding Sweets

*Today’s Diary*
In the morning, when I went to the classroom, I saw Ratt-kun and Lite deeply engaged in conversation.
As I greeted them, Ratt-kun, with a serious look on his face, said, “You came at a good time, Lux-kun.”
He told me he had a favor to ask and wanted me to keep my afternoon free, so I agreed and asked what it was about, but he teased me by saying, “I’ll tell you the details after school.”
I had no choice but to spend the day feeling somewhat uneasy until the afternoon. (Lux)
—
In the evening, after classes ended, Ratt-kun, Lite, and Frank, who was probably dragged along against his will, and I sat at a table in the corner of the library.
“So, what is it?” (Lux)
When I asked, Ratt-kun carefully placed something important on the table as if he were revealing a treasure.
It looked like a candy wrapper?
“…Is this a candy wrapper?” (Lux)
“Yes. It’s a candy wrapper.” (Ratt)
“Uh-huh? And?” (Lux)
“The truth is… this candy is really delicious.” (Ratt)
…Okay. And?
Seeing my confusion, Lite couldn’t help but giggle. Well, if we laughed out loud in the library, we’d get kicked out. But watching him laugh so much started to annoy me a bit. I wished he would get kicked out.
“Hey, Ratt-kun, that doesn’t make any sense. What is that trash?” (Frank)
Frank, without hesitation, judged the candy wrapper that Ratt-kun had taken such care to present as “trash” and urged him to continue. But since this was typical, Ratt-kun didn’t mind and continued.
“Frank, it’s true that this is trash, but this candy is really delicious. When you lick the hard outer candy, a soft chocolate-flavored candy appears from inside, and when you combine them…” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun, lost in a dreamy explanation about the candy’s deliciousness, was once again interrupted by Frank.
“Yeah, I understand that the candy is delicious, but if you’re not going to get to the point, I’ll leave.” (Frank)
Just as he was about to stand up, Ratt-kun hurriedly tried to continue his story. The candy wrapper that Ratt-kun had was one that Lite had given him. Lite had happened to have it left in his pocket, and he had given it to Ratt-kun, who had been feeling hungry since morning.
Ratt-kun, didn’t you eat breakfast?
Then, Ratt-kun was shocked by the flavor and asked Lite where he bought it. Lite explained that he had bought this candy from a food truck he happened to pass by on the first day he arrived in Rodon. He had been busy with various preparations, so he didn’t remember the name of the store or where he purchased it.
“This flavor is going to become a new specialty of the town. But before that, I absolutely want to find this store.” (Ratt)
“Well, if that’s the case, why don’t you just ask the whole team for help instead of whispering about it here?” (Lite)
“I’d prefer to search quietly at first. If I ask various people, it might spark rumors.” (Ratt)
Does that mean you want to monopolize it?
When I asked, he said that wasn’t the case. Once he secured the necessary amount, he actually wanted to spread it around. I thought it was quite vague when Lite jumped into the conversation.
“Ratt wants to send this candy to his brothers. He has four brothers back in his hometown, and he wants to secure some before it becomes popular.” (Lite)
If you had just said so, that would have been fine.
“I promised during summer vacation that I would send delicious sweets that you can’t eat in my hometown.”
Ratt-kun said a bit shyly.
Well, if that’s the case, I don’t mind cooperating. But there’s one concern.
“I understand you don’t want to increase the numbers until you find it, but none of us here know the area well. Wouldn’t it be better to ask someone with more local knowledge?” (Lux)
I suggested.
“That’s true.” (Ratt)
He replied.
“Then, let’s go to Rick-san’s house once and ask for his help.” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun said as he stood up.
“Wait, we’re going now?” (Lux)
So, after hurrying back to the dormitory to submit an outing request, I heard the dorm mother’s voice behind me saying, “Don’t take too long to come back”, as I walked toward the south gate. Then, just ahead, I spotted a strong ally who was about to leave through the south gate while humming a cheerful tune.
It was Hana, singing a hummed version of her original song, “The Song of Gozaru Gozaru”
—
As we walked outside the gate, I explained to Hana what was happening. After hearing me out, Hana patted her chest.
“If that’s the case, leave it to me, a Rodon native! Degozaru.” (Hana)
According to Hana, most of the food trucks that move around during the day were rented, so many of them return to specific locations in the evening. When starting a business in Rodon, it was common to rent a food truck to gauge the reputation and then, either rent a proper store or purchase one once there’s some expectation of success.
“So, asking at the shop that rents out food trucks is the most efficient way to go, degozaru. It’s just the right time, so if we’re lucky, we might catch them when they return.” (Hana)
As expected of a Rodon native. What would have taken us weeks to solve, she managed to resolve in a short amount of time.
“Thanks, Hana. Then, please guide us.” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun said as he followed behind her.
As I followed behind, I said to Lite and Frank, “Looks like we’re no longer needed”.
“Absolutely. I want to go home.” (Frank)
“Well, it’s fine, isn’t it? Just a way to kill time.” (Lux)
We continued walking for a while, and Hana pointed to a spot.
“This is the shop that rents out food trucks.” (Hana)
Indeed, there was a large warehouse filled with many food trucks. As we peered curiously into the warehouse, a few food trucks began to return. As soon as Hana saw the receptionist’s hands were free, she called out to him and asked if there were any food trucks that might fit the description, and he quickly answered.
“Probably, that would be Holland’s shop. He just started a candy store recently, and it seems to have a good reputation. I think it should be returning around now.” (??)
We all high-fived each other, excited, and decided to wait nearby.
While chatting as we waited for Holland’s shop, a petite girl with a delicate frame stumbled past us. Just in front of her, a food truck came barreling in while she was distracted and nearly collided with her!
I hurriedly ran over to the girl and pulled her back, shouting, “Watch out!”.
The girl was easily drawn toward me. After letting out a small “Kya!” before realizing the situation, she thanked me.
“It’s dangerous to be distracted. Please be careful.” (Lux)
I told her, and the girl responded.
“Yeah. I heard there’s a candy shop that’s recently getting popular, so I was looking for it…” (??)
“Could it be Holland’s shop? What a coincidence! We’re waiting for that shop too. Let’s wait together. Come over here.” (Lux)
I invited her.
Just as we were about to head back, the receptionist at the food truck called out, “Oh, it’s back! That’s Holland’s shop,” pointing to a food truck that had just arrived.
As we rushed over, Holland-san stopped his truck with a slightly surprised expression.
“What’s all the commotion?” (Holland)
When we informed him that we had been waiting for his shop, his face broke into a happy smile.
“That’s wonderful! Since you waited so long, I’ll sell you the leftovers at a discount. Oh, and don’t worry, they’re all good for a while.” (Holland)
He said.
We gratefully accepted Holland-san’s kindness, and even those of us who usually didn’t buy sweets, like me and Frank, began browsing. Each of us, especially Ratt-kun, secured a satisfying number of treats, along with souvenirs for himself and the rest of the team.
The girl I had saved also seemed to have successfully found the candy she was looking for. I was glad.
Holland-san’s stock, which hadn’t been selling that well to begin with, was down to just one item, and the last was purchased when Lite suggested.
“Since we’re here, why not get some for Lev too?” (Lite)
Thus, selling out completely.
“Please come again if you can! I’ll give you a discount!” (Holland)
After learning which street he usually frequented, we bid farewell with smiles.
“Then, let’s head back before it gets too late.” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun said as we prepared to leave. I turned to the girl.
“See you later.” (Lux)
“Thank you… um…?” (??)
Then, the girl said as if wanting to ask my name.
“I’m Lux. A student at the military academy.” (Lux)
I replied, and the girl widened her eyes a bit.
“Could it be… you’re Fort Lux?” (??)
She asked, and that was surprising me this time.
“Wait, you know about me? Are you also a student at the academy?” (??)
I inquired, and she nodded.
“Yeah, I know you well. I’m Ligressia Seg Gellar. Thank you for today. See you at the academy.” (Ligressia)
She said as she walked away in the opposite direction of the academy.
This was my first encounter with Gellar, rumored to be a genius Knight (Ritter) in Class 1-A.Bottom of Form
