Class Competitive Exercise (4): 1-A Ligressia Seg Gellar

In the first-year class competition exercise, Roy-kun, despite retreating in disarray after being attacked by 1-A, said that Saxon was bypassing the forest where Class 1-A should be and attacking the southern hill. We couldn’t make any sense of the situation.

We waited for Roy-kun to continue, but his next words were entirely different.

“Maria, I’m sorry, but I need one Heavy Trooper (Armor) and one Shooter or one Raider (Commander). I need to hurry to support Saxon, or they’ll be wiped out.” (Roy)

Roy-kun’s tone was much stronger than usual, and Maria immediately agreed.

“Then, I’ll send… Lite-kun and…” (Maria)

Before she could finish, Lite-kun objected.

“Wait, based on endurance, Rick-san would be a better choice than me. From what I’ve heard, it’s more about covering a retreat than advancing. He may be slower, but Rick-san is more suited for the task.” (Lite)

“In that case, I’ll go too, degozaru!” (Hana)

Hana said, volunteering herself. So, Rick-san and Hana temporarily joined Roy-kun’s command. Roy-kun thanked Maria.

“If they haven’t been taken out, the group I left at the base, Legg and the others, should join you here. Please have them operate under your command.” (Roy)

Apparently, the Sniper, Engineer (Tech), and other classmates had been left at the base they had built in the forest to attack 1-A. Roy-kun looked unusually frustrated, perhaps because they had been unable to link up with the group.

Roy-kun, Rick-san, and the others hurried down the hill, while I prepared my rifle, thinking I might get a turn soon. Thanks to the stand Frank built for me, I had a relatively clear line of sight, even at mid-range.

The battle was still raging on the southern hill. In the confusion, several figures began to run downhill toward us. A few others were chasing them. I looked through my scope and saw that Saxon and his group were being pursued.

As Saxon’s group reached the middle of the open plain, Roy-kun’s group joined them. However, Rick-san, the Heavy Trooper (Armor), lagged behind due to his slower speed. Meanwhile, the enemy was closing in.

I aimed my beloved rifle (Counter) at the closest opponent.

*Bang*

The familiar sound rang out as the bullet hit one of the enemy Shooters. Unaware of where the shot had come from, the enemy stopped their pursuit, allowing Saxon and the others to regroup with Rick-san and return to the northern hill where we were stationed. Only four of Saxon’s group made it back safely, and Bianca wasn’t among them.

Upon reaching the hill, Saxon spat in frustration.

“That damn Gellar! She used us!” (Saxon)

“Gellar?” (Lux)

I asked. I was unfamiliar with the name. Maria, who stood next to me, turned in surprise.

“Gellar-san is the Knight (Ritter) from 1-A who beat the upperclassmen in the previous competition. She’s a famous young genius leader.” (Maria)

Oh, I didn’t know that.

“There’s nothing genius about her. Her tactics are just dirty,” Saxon shot back, and Roy-kun agreed.

“I’m not a fan of her methods either. Gellar only sees her comrades as pawns. Even if she wins, she sacrifices too many.” (Roy)

Roy-kun said with firm tone. At that point, Saxon and Roy-kun began to explain what had happened in the forest.

After entering the forest, Saxon and Roy-kun’s teams quickly secured a foothold and left it to the Engineer (Tech), just as Maria had planned. They successfully launched a surprise attack on 1-A’s camp. While 1-A’s students were still in disarray, they managed to take out a few students and two Knights (Ritter).

Hearing this, I couldn’t help but exclaim.

“You took out two Knights (Ritter)? That’s amazing!” (Lux)

But Saxon grimaced more than ever.

“That was exactly Gellar’s plan! Damn it!” (Saxon)

It seemed that Gellar, the Knight (Ritter), had decided that if the presence of other Knights (Ritter) caused confusion about who was in command, she might as well eliminate them herself. As a result, all the Knights (Ritter) besides Gellar were taken out, and she brought the remaining soldiers under her control. Once she had full command of his class’s forces, she quickly demonstrated her leadership skills, and a stalemate developed between them and Saxon’s team.

At this point, it was our side that started to get impatient. Despite their initial success, Saxon’s group was still outnumbered, and as time passed, our position at the northern hill (where I, Catrap, was stationed) became more precarious. Roy-kun proposed retreating, but Saxon shook his head.

Given the situation, it was clear that we were already engaged in battle on the northern hill, as evidenced by the sound of gunfire. Furthermore, the location where they were facing off against 1-A was further south than expected, so retreating under pursuit back to the northern hill was too far.

There was also the idea of having Roy-kun’s Blue Shells, skilled in defense, hold their position and stall for time while Saxon retreated, but Saxon had another plan. He proposed launching a surprise attack on 1-B to the south.

Indeed, if the surprise attack on the southern hill succeeded, 1-B’s forces, who were attacking Catrap, would be forced to withdraw and regroup. Depending on how things played out, they might even be able to take out one of 1-B’s Knights (Ritter) and withdraw. It was a risky move, but Roy-kun decided it was better than retreating, and the plan was set.

While Roy-kun distracted 1-A, Saxon began his maneuver. It was just after Saxon’s group had completely withdrawn when 1-A suddenly split their forces and launched an all-out assault. With nearly no forces left at their base, Roy-kun’s Blue Shells were forced to retreat as 1-A’s main force chased after Saxon’s Earl Crush team. By the time Roy-kun realized what had happened, it was already too late. He had no choice but to minimize the damage and retreat to the northern hill.

Meanwhile, Saxon managed to outflank 1-B, but just as he was about to attack, cheers erupted from behind. It was 1-A’s forces. Of course, 1-B’s troops on the hill also noticed Saxon’s group. At this point, Saxon’s team found themselves caught between 1-B and 1-A.

Still, Saxon rallied his men and attempted to break through 1-B’s relatively weaker forces. Fortunately, 1-B had already sent most of their troops north to attack the northern hill, so their base was relatively undefended. Saxon and his group barely managed to escape back to the northern hill.

“Alright, we can’t sit around! 1-B is going to fall soon, and Gellar’s coming for us. Let’s give them back a hundred times what they dealt us!” (Saxon)

Saxon shouted, glaring toward the southern hill, but just then, the sound of the exercise-ending blank shot rang out.

Later, we found out that the exercise had ended because all of 1-B’s Knights (Ritter) had been eliminated, and the instructor decided it was time.

“Huh? Why!?”

Saxon’s frustrated shout echoed in vain.

In the end, our class 1-C won the exercise, as all our Knights (Ritter) had survived. But for us, this battle was a reminder of the strength of Gellar, the Knight (Ritter).
