Circus (2): Saxon and Noris

The circus venue was in the suburbs of the city. Everyone walked along the main street. As we walked, two people wearing masks with laughing and crying expressions and dressed in strange outfits pass by, hitting noisemakers as they went by. When we were drawn to the peculiar melody of “Chakapoko, Chakapoko,” they suddenly offered us a circus flyer.
“We’re going to see this now!” (Noris)
Noris told them. Just as the masked person silently took back the flyer, a single flower appears in their hand.
“Are you giving this to me? Thank you!” (Noris)
When Noris receives the flower, the two masked figures once again march down the main street, making the “Chakapoko, Chakapoko” sound. After such an exchange, as our excitement built, we started hearing sounds from outside the town. We all began to hurry a little as we left the city.
As soon as we exit the city gates, a large tent comes into view. Many people are already eagerly waiting for the opening. Perhaps to kill time before the event starts, a girl with a small monkey was putting on a little performance, and Noris and Maria run over to her.
“It’s much bigger in scale than I expected.” (Lux)
I said to Rick-san, who was walking beside me.
“Yeah, it’s surprising.” (Rick)
He replied.
I thought for sure that Rick-san had seen a circus before, but it turns out this is his first time too.
“Oh, there’s a food stall! Should we go buy something?” (Ratt)
“Oh, sounds good. I’ll go too. Hey, Frank, let’s go!” (Lite)
Ratt-kun and Lite, who love food stalls, dragged the reluctant Frank with them as they headed toward the stalls.
“We’ll hold your place in line, so if there’s something you want to check out, go ahead.” (Roy/Lev)
Roy-kun and Lev said.
“No, I’ll stay here and wait with you.” (Lux)
I responded.
“Oh, Saxon, are you going to watch the monkey’s performance too?” (Lux)
When I called out to Saxon, who was absentmindedly watching the monkey’s tricks, he responded, “Ah, no. I’ll get in line too,” and hurriedly came over.
Saxon seems a bit distracted today.
Later, Sonia and Bianca teased him, saying, “You should go watch with Maria and Noris-chan,” to which he replied, “Shut up”.
Then, a stout man came out from the tent and announced.
“Thank you for waiting! We’ll begin admission shortly!” (??)
The people watching the monkey, and the stalls started to gather near the entrance. The circus would be starting soon.

A huge animal with a long nose doing a handstand. It was an unbelievable sight. Apparently, this was the opening act. Next, a man and a woman appeared, moving nimbly through the air as they leaped from platform to platform, sometimes crossing paths to grab each other’s hands, and other times, the man would throw the woman far, where she spun and landed on a high platform. With each daring move, the audience erupted in gasps and cheers.
Then, unbelievably, a girl appeared riding a fierce beast. It was the kind that, if I encountered in the mountains, I’d either run away immediately or, if I had enough distance, I would try to shoot it first.
The beast didn’t try to shake off the girl riding it and walked heavily near the audience. After circling the edges of the venue, a ring was set in the center of the stage, and suddenly, fire was lit around it.
As the flames roared, the girl raised her hand and shouted to the audience.
“Now, this beast, Canon, will jump through that ring of fire! Please cheer Canon on!” (??)
Apparently, the beast’s name was Canon. We all cheered for Canon with all our might.
Hearing our cheers, Canon, who seemed satisfied, was patted on the back by the girl, and, unbelievably, with the girl still on its back, Canon dashed toward the ring of fire.
The cheers turned to screams from the audience!
However, just as Canon was about to leap through the ring of fire, the girl also jumped off its back, passing over the ring of fire, and then landed gracefully back on Canon’s back after it safely passed through the flames. She raised both hands, and the audience erupted in applause.
One after another, surprising and mysterious performances followed.
We forgot to even blink as we continued watching it all unfold.

“That was so much fun!” (??)
Someone said, and everyone agreed wholeheartedly.
The performance, which lasted about two hours which couldn’t be described as short, had literally flown by. As we stepped outside, people were already gathering for the next show, and if we had tickets, we might have lined up again.
“Well, Lux, everyone, do any of you have plans for later today?” (Roy)
Roy-kun asked us.
“Haven’t decided on anything. Do you have something in mind?” (Lux)
I asked Heinz.
“Not really.” (Heinz)
He responded.
“In that case, how about we all go out for a meal? I’ve reserved a nice place. Consider it a thank-you for today.” (Roy)
“What? Really?!” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun immediately jumped at the offer.
“Of course. We decided on it after talking with Saxon, as a thank-you for the tickets. It would be a shame to waste the reservation, so please join us.” (Roy)
Thanks to Roy-kun’s smooth invitation, we gratefully accepted and were treated to lunch.

The restaurant we were taken to looked really expensive.
“…It looks pricey.” (Lux)
I said honestly.
“It’s not so bad at lunch. It’s buffet-style, so you can pick whatever you like, which I thought would be perfect for today, right, Saxon?” (Roy)
Saxon, who had helped plan the outing, replied absentmindedly.
“Yeah, oh… yeah.” (Saxon)
“Whoa, can we really eat all of this?!” (Ratt)
“It’s like a festival!” (Lite)
As soon as we entered, everyone was cheering.
At the back of the restaurant, there was an array of dishes, and everyone rushed to fill their plates. Ratt-kun and Lite came back with their plates piled high with food.
You guys were eating something from the stalls earlier, weren’t you? And you know you can refill your plates as many times as you want, right?
The surprising one was Lev. His plate was covered with nothing but meat.
Wow, a true carnivore.
On the other hand, Bianca was amusing. Her plate was full of healthy, vegetable-based dishes.
It’s kind of the opposite of what I’d imagine her and Lev’s choices to be.
Maria and Noris were squealing with delight, arranging their food cutely on their plates. Noticing Saxon staring at the two of them absentmindedly again, Noris toddled over to him.
“Thank you so much for treating us to this wonderful meal!” (Noris)
She said with a big smile.
“Hau!” (Saxon)
Saxon clutched his chest and staggered back in surprise, leaving Noris staring at him with a puzzled expression.

*Today’s Diary*
Today was a really fulfilling day.
I feel like I got a bit closer to Roy-kun and Saxon too. Just as we were leaving, Saxon asked me if Noris was really my sister, just to make sure.
Maybe he’s taken a liking to Noris?
When I suggested, “How about we hang out with Noris again next time?” he let out a conflicted “Kuh!” as if he was struggling with something.
Saxon’s reaction was surprising, to say the least.
Well, Noris is smart, but unlike me, she can be quite oblivious in certain ways, so I think I’ll just watch over them with a warm eye.
