Casablanca’s Escape

Marie’s escape and Louis’ rebellion were reported to Leo almost simultaneously. Kureo had been searching all over the place because Leo was not in his room, but in situations like this, Leo usually barged into Casablanca’s room.

“Louis-sama has started a rebellion in Lashion’s territory. It seems that about 200,000 people with nobles from all over the country have joined the large-scale rebellion.” (Kureo)

“That’s what they say.” (Casablanca)

It was not Leo who responded to Culeo’s report but rather Casablanca. She cast a cold gaze at Leo, who was devouring his meat without a care in the world.

“Who is Louis?” (Leo)

“He’s your brother, and mine.” (Casablanca)

“Oh, right.” (Leo)

Leo showed no particular concern for his brother’s or the nobles’ rebellion and continued his meal. Kureo, seeing this, attempted to continue his report.

“Your Highness! I must inform you— gah!” (Kureo)

Suddenly, a large figure was sent flying. Leo had kicked him in the torso. Leo’s face, which had been expressionless just moments ago, was now bright red, about to erupt like a volcano.

“Who are you calling ‘Your Highness,’ you idiot?! I am the king. Didn’t I tell you to call me ‘Your Majesty’?!” (Leo)
“I-I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!” (Kureo)

Leo continued kicking Kureo, who had curled up into a bowing position.

“Hey! Don’t dirty my room! If you’re going to discipline your subordinates, do it somewhere else!” (Casablanca)

Thanks to Casablanca’s intervention, or rather her complaint, Leo finally calmed down.

“Good grief. So, what was your report?” (Leo)

Leo, who had sat back down with a thud, allowed Kureo to resume his report. Poor Kureo’s face was swollen, and blood dripped from his nose.

“Y-yes. Marie-sama, who escaped the capital the other day, has led the Holy Church’s followers into rebellion and joined Louis-sama.” (Kureo)

“Marie, huh?” (Leo)

“She’s your sister, and mine.” (Casablanca)

“Oh, right.” (Leo)

As expected, Leo had not remembered his sister’s name, so Casablanca supplemented his knowledge immediately.

“Gather the soldiers.” (Leo)

“Yes, Your Majesty!” (Kureo)

There was no need to hesitate. For Leo, the only option was to suppress the rebellion. He had no affection for his brother and sister to begin with. There was nothing to worry about. He would just crush those who defied him. That was all.

Kureo, having received Leo’s orders, quickly left, though his steps were slightly unsteady. It seemed he had also been struck in the head during the earlier assault. Without even glancing at his staggering subordinate, Leo resumed his extravagant meal, while Casablanca looked at him with a mix of exasperation and pity.

“I really feel sorry for your subordinates. No one knows what sets off your anger. You’re truly insane.” (Casablanca)

“It’s his fault for calling me ‘Your Highness’ when I’m the king. Why are you in a bad mood?” (Leo)

“Anyone would be upset if they were interrupted during a meal.” (Casablanca)

“Enjoying a meal while looking at the view, huh?” (Leo)

“Thanks to someone burning the entire capital to the ground, I can now see all the way from the palace to the city gates.” (Casablanca)

Leo gazed out the window. Casablanca also followed his lead and looked outside. Since Casablanca’s room was on the top floor of the palace, it had always had an expansive view. But now, all they could see was a vast stretch of scorched earth. The land was charred black, and smoke still billowed from some areas.

Casablanca sighed as she looked out the window, then turned back to glare at Leo.

“You’re not going to die a decent death, you know.” (Casablanca)

“Hahaha! The city, once crammed with buildings, looks clean now.” (Leo)

Leo felt no remorse at all as he laughed gleefully. Then, he stood up and left the room.

“I’m going to crush the rebellion. What about you?” (Leo)

“Oh? What can I do other than sit here?” (Casablanca)

“Haha. I’ll be right back.” (Leo)

Ignoring Casablanca’s sarcasm entirely, Leo returned to his own room.

Leo’s soldiers soon departed the capital to suppress the rebellion. Since there were only 2,000 of them, the preparations were finished in just a few hours. The speed from receiving the report to their departure was abnormal, but this overwhelming swiftness was the greatest strength of Leo’s army.

As Leo’s cavalry hurriedly passed through the city gates, two girls entered. They looked in awe at Leo’s army, which had already disappeared from sight, and began to talk.

“To be able to prepare and leave in less than a day is fast. Even if there are few soldiers.” (Lily)

Then, the two passed through the gates of the palace. Since Leo’s arrival, the security system had collapsed, and even during the day, there were times when no guards were stationed at the entrance to the palace. It wasn’t uncommon for starving peasants to sneak in and steal food.
The two girls made their way to Casablanca’s room. Her room, located on the top floor of the palace, was at least well-guarded.

“Is our clothing in order?” (Lily)

“Yes.” (Sanya)

The two confirmed that their outfits were in order and took a deep breath before knocking on the door.

“3rd Unit Soldier Lily, 6th Unit Soldier Sanya, reporting.” (Lily)

“Come in.” (Casablanca)

“Excuse us.” (Lily)

When they opened the door, they were greeted by a scene entirely different from usual.

The shelves had been overturned, and clothes and jewelry were scattered everywhere. All of Casablanca’s personal guards were present, hurriedly packing belongings into large bags. Casablanca approached the two girls, who were a bit stunned, and asked while touching their hair.

“Where did you two go? It’s dangerous out there, especially with the capital in chaos.” (Casablanca)

“Yes, Your Highness. The weather was nice, so we took a short trip to the outskirts.” (Lily)

“I see.” (Casablanca)

Casablanca accepted their explanation without further questioning. After all, it was their day off, so there was no reason to reprimand them for where they had gone. She continued as if it were nothing.

“We’re leaving the capital before sunset. We won’t be coming back for a while, so pack accordingly.” (Casablanca)

“Wh-what?” (Lily)
“Now that my brother is gone, this is our chance. We’re escaping from the capital.” (Casablanca)
“Y-yes!” (Lily)

They would escape the capital while Leo was away. The two girls finally understood why the other royal guards were so busy. Realizing this, they quickly joined in the packing.
