Request from Lamie-senpai (3): Sniper

**Today’s Diary**
Tomorrow, Lamie-senpai’s Uncle-san, will finally arrive.
The last three days have been intense and exhausting.
I’ve been going to the combat training building every day, having meetings with Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai. For some reason, Bianca has been joining us each time.
During these meetings, I had to quickly memorize how to speak to Lamie-senpai and the right answers to potential questions. Honestly, these past three days have probably been the toughest since I entered this academy.
Sonia and Maria seemed a bit irritated, especially seeing me and Bianca went to the training building together. However, all this ends tomorrow. For the sake of Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai, I need to make sure I don’t mess up, so I’ll go to bed early tonight.
—
There was a reception room in the school that students could use, and we were waiting there for Lamie-senpai’s uncle, Nork-san.
Saras-senpai and Bianca were with me. Officially, Saras-senpai’s reason for being here was to meet Nork-san, who was a famous military figure, but in reality, he and Lamie-Senpai were here to apologize if I mess up.
Bianca was here because her family has ties with Lamie-senpai’s, and she knew Nork-san to some extent. She thought it was a good opportunity to say hello.
“Now that I think of it, how did Lamie and Saras-senpai get to know each other?” (Lux)
I tried my best to call Lamie-senpai by her first name and speak to her in a casual manner.
“Hmm, how did we meet?” (Lamie)
Lamie-senpai tried to evade the question, but Saras-senpai pointed behind her. There, leaning against the wall, was the sniper rifle Lamie-senpai had used during our duel.
“It all started with that.” (Saras)
“That? Lamie’s gun? The one that looked really powerful?” (Lux)
From what I saw during the duel, it was a special gun that looked much more powerful than my beloved gun.
“Yeah. I’m using it now, but it originally belonged to Saras.” (Lamie)
“What? I didn’t know that!” (Bianca)
It seemed Bianca didn’t know either. Saras-senpai continued.
“Yeah, that rifle, the three-legged one… it is actually an heirloom from my grandfather, much like your rifle, Lux. You both probably know it’s a power-heavy, difficult weapon to handle. But honestly, I wasn’t skilled enough to make full use of it, and I hit a wall, fell into a slump. I practiced desperately, trying to get better. I was really struggling back then. Then one day, Lamie came to me and said, ‘Trade me your rifle and sell that one’. It caught me by surprise.” (Saras)
Lamie-senpai, who had been listening to Saras’ story with a somewhat embarrassed expression.
“There is such a thing as compatibility between people and guns. I just thought Saras would be better suited to a medium-range rifle.” (Lamie)
She sounded a bit curt, but I wasn’t sure why she was embarrassed. The “Medium Shot” rifle was the one Saras-senpai currently uses. My rifle (Counter) and Lamy’s three-legged rifle both had longer barrels than standard rifles, but the Medium Shot had a slightly shorter barrel, making it more maneuverable.
With this shorter rifle and his unorthodox, highly mobile sniper style, Saras-senpai became a top-tier student at the academy. He constantly moves around, sniping enemies from beyond their range. He wasa very tricky opponent to face.
“My fighting style is similar. I’m thinking of switching to a rifle like Saras-senpai’s next year.” (Bianca)
As we continued chatting, there was a knock on the door. Time to meet the man himself.
—
Given the keywords ‘noble’, ‘uncle’, and ‘meddlesome’, I had imagined someone with a bit of a belly and a friendly demeanor but the man who appeared with his bodyguards was a well-toned, well-built, handsome middle-aged man.
“Ah, Lamitomivia! It’s been a while. How have you been?” (Nork)
He spread his arms wide and gave Lamie-senpai a light hug.
“Uncle Nork, we just saw each other during summer vacation.” (Lamie)
Lamie-senpai was slightly taken aback but returning the hug nonetheless.
After their reunion greetings ended, he looked around at me and then, at Bianca.
“You must be… the daughter of Colonel Rudolf, yes?” (Nork)
“Yes, I am Hils Bianca. It’s been a while. I heard from Senpai that you would be visiting today, so I wanted to take the opportunity to greet you.” (Bianca)
“Well, well, how courteous. With such a bright and beautiful daughter, Colonel Rudolf must be quite proud.” (Nork)
His mood pleasant… until this point.
“Now then.” (Nork)
Nok’s gaze shifted from Bianca to us, and his expression instantly turned sharp and severe.
“So, are you the pests clinging to Lamitomivia? Step outside. Let me first test your skills.” (Nork)
Without waiting for a response, Nork-san gestured for us to head outside.
He had no intention of listening to any explanation like, “Well, it wasn’t just two of us…”
“No one approaches Lamitomivia without my permission!” (Nork)
He said bluntly.
At that moment, all of our carefully prepared discussions felt utterly pointless, and I began to feel that my involvement had only made things more complicated.
This is bad.
—
Before we knew it, we found ourselves being led by Nork-san to a mock urban training area.
“I’ve already secured the instructor’s permission. Before I met you earlier, I prepared some targets in this area. Hit the targets I specify. If you fail, you are never to approach Lamitomivia again.” (Nork)
This uncle clearly has no intention of listening to explanations from the start.
I exchanged a glance with Saras-senpai, silently asking, “What should we do?”. He merely shrugged, offering no clear solution. (Saras)
I then looked at Lamie-senpai for some help.
Huh? Why is Lamie-senpai also preparing her rifle? (Lux)
To my surprise, she even asked.
“Uncle, may I join this match as well?” (Lamie)
Nork seemed taken aback for a moment, but when Lamie-senpai added.
“I want you to see the results of my training too.” (Lamie)
He narrowed his eyes and gladly agreed to let her participate.
No, no! That’s not the issue! I don’t understand why Lamie-senpai is even participating.
“Alright then, Lux, Saras, can I have my turn?” (Lamie)
Okay? No, it’s not okay at all! This doesn’t make any sense.
I shot another glance at Saras-senpai, who once again just shrugged with a helpless expression.
Why does he look so indifferent to this situation?
Letting out a quiet sigh, I resigned myself to the madness.
“So, which target should I aim for?” (Lux)
I asked as I began preparing my rifle, Counter.
Just then, I felt an unpleasant sensation that pierced my skin. It was similar to the gaze of an animal eyeing me, watching my movements.
However, this isn’t a forest. There shouldn’t be any wild beasts around. That means this isn’t an animal. It’s a person. Could this be… killing intent? I’ve never actually felt killing intent before, but this has to be it.
Trying to remain as casual as possible, I called out to Lamie-senpai.
“Actually, let’s decide the order by drawing lots. Both of you, come over here for a moment.” (Lux)
I said as abandoned any attempt to sound casual or polite. I just needed to get them away from Nork-san.
From a distance, I heard Nork-san’s dismissive voice.
“What’s this? Pathetic. If you’re men, shoot already.” (Nork)
But now, it isn’t the time to worry about that.
The two of them gave me puzzled looks as they walked over. Once they were close, I spoke in a low voice.
“I might be wrong, but over by that building, there’s a sniper hiding. I think they’re aiming to kill us.” (Lux)
Both of them gasped at my words.
