Request from Lamie-senpai (2): Intention of the Request
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
Lamie-senpai requested that I, Lux, play the role of her lover in place Saras-senpai, who was engaged to her.
I was still not entirely clear on the situation, and I had a few questions. The first question was why it had to be me. Sure, I knew that I got along well with Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai, just like Bianca does, among the first-year students. But both of them must had classmates they had known longer than me, who they were more familiar with. It seemd like there’d be someone more suitable than someone they had only known for about half a year.
Saras-senpai was the one who answered my question.
“Lux, how many students at this academy do you think call Lamie by just ‘Lamie’?” (Saras)
That was how Salaras-senpai started.
“Well, when I first met her, she said I could just call her ‘Lamie,’ so I figured most people call her Lamie-senpai. Everyone on my team calls her ‘Lamie-senpai’ too.” (Lux)
After hearing my answer, Saras-senpai looked at Bianca.
“What do you think, Bianca?” (Saras)
Bianca thought for a moment and replied,
“…Among the first years, I think it’s just me and Lux’s team. I’m not sure about the second or third years, but now that I think about it, hardly anyone calls her just Lamie.” (Bianca)
That was an unexpected answer.
Really? Why is that?
Saras-senpai gave Bianca a nod of affirmation and continued.
“Lux, let me change the topic a bit. What do you think of the Via Household, Lamie’s family?” (Saras)
“What do I think? They’re the ‘Old Warriors,’ right? They’re a prestigious family with a long history, right? I think they’re amazing.” (Lux)
“And anything else?” (Saras)
Saras-senpai asked further.
“Anything else… not really.” (Lux)
“That’s exactly it. That kind of perception is very valuable. Even if Lamie tells people to call her by her nickname, when the name of the Via Household comes up, most people can’t do it so easily.” (Saras)
“Is that so? But Bianca calls that name without any problem, doesn’t she?” (Lux)
“I’ve known Lamie-neesan for a while. My family’s been involved with the military for generations, so we’ve had ties with the Via Household for a long time.” (Bianca)
I see. So that means in the first year, only our team calls Lamie-senpai by her nickname.
Saras-senpai continued.
“I think it also has to do with the atmosphere of your class. I heard from Bianca that the nobles in 1-C don’t flaunt their nobility too much, right?” (Saras)
It’s true. Maria, even though she’s from the prestigious Bell Household, one of the Five Great Noble Houses, is always so laid-back, and Roy-kun never hesitates to say, “We’re just a small household”.
Saxon can be a bit condescending, but he never goes out of his way to flaunt his nobility. I think Saxon finds it a waste of time to create friction. He wants to achieve something quickly and prove himself to his family.
“Classes like yours are rare. Normally, one or two people, or sometimes even the whole class, will act more aristocratic. Even if the person themselves doesn’t act that way, others around them tend to treat them that way.” (Saras)
“Oh? But doesn’t this academy have rules against behaving too aristocratically?” (Lux)
“It does, officially.” (Saras)
Ah, so it’s just for show. That makes sense.
“And you see, it wouldn’t make sense for you to act all nervous when playing the role of Lamie’s lover. You have to be able to act naturally around her.” (Saras)
“And one more thing.” (Lamie)
Lamie-senpai, who had been quietly listening until now, chimed in.
Is there still another condition?
“Our family values strength. If the person isn’t at least somewhat skilled, they might incur Uncle’s wrath. Specifically, the person needs to be at least on par with me.” (Lamie)
Does that mean the only candidates are Saras-senpai, Reager-senpai from the second year, and me…?
“…Well, I understand why there are so few candidates to play the role of lover, but why pretend to be her lover in the first place?” (Lux)
Why do I have to pretend to be Lamie-senpai’s lover, and even go so far as to break up with her? The reason is simple and that is Lamie-senpai and Saras-senpai need time.
Lamie-senpai’s uncle, Nork-san, who had been trying to arrange a good match for her for the sake of the Via Household, somehow caught wind of the fact that Lamie-senpai had someone she liked at the academy. Worse yet, he also learned that this person was not a noble.
Uncle Nork-san, in his overzealousness, declared, “I won’t allow Lamie to be with someone of unknown origin!” and decided to take matters into his own hands. As much as he meant well, it was an unnecessary intrusion. He was even planning to personally visit the academy and break them up, according to the message that came to Lamie-senpai from her troubled family.
Although Lamie’s parents had scold him, he was a stubborn uncle who had been tirelessly searching for marriage prospects for his niece, all out of love for the Via Household. His intentions were genuine, but his strong-willed nature made him difficult to reason with. The idea of him storming the academy with this single-minded goal had left Lamie’s family with no choice but to inform her of the situation.
“Why don’t you just introduce Saras-senpai to him? If it’s already decided internally that he’s going to be a major, that’s the elite course, isn’t it? Wouldn’t Nork-san be satisfied with that?” (Lux)
Lamie-senpai shook her head at my question.
“That ‘internally decided’ part is the problem. Right now, even though it’s practically certain, we can’t disclose that information to anyone outside the academy. I haven’t even told my parents. In fact, it’s technically a bit of a gray area that I’m discussing it with you right now.” (Lamie)
I wish people wouldn’t talk about such things so lightly.
“Right now, we don’t have enough cards to convince my uncle. So I figured, why not stage a breakup just as he wants? That way, he’ll be satisfied and leave.” (Lamie)
Uncle Nork-san, with his impulsive personality, would likely be content once he saw Lamie-senpai break up with her supposed lover. Satisfied, he’d leave without causing further issues. As for the marriage proposal Nork brought up, Lamie-senpai had already made it clear that she wasn’t interested in discussing anything until after she graduated. This plan would buy time until Saras-senpai officially earned his major’s rank, allowing the two of them to proudly return to the Via Household.
“Of course, I’ll make sure to reward you for your help in some way. Could I ask you to do this for me?” (Lamie)
Despite everything, I really owe Lamie-senpai a lot for all she’s done for me.
I sighed softly.
“Alright, I’ll help.” (Lux)
“I appreciate it. Then, let’s start by having you call me by my first name without any honorifics.” (Lamie)
Wait, is that really necessary?
