Saxon (3): Joint Struggle

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

At the foot of the hill in the northwest, Brigadier General Bind and his two attendants were watching us. In the distance, they were grinning as they saw a boy, presumably Saxon, being harassed by other student (Lite).

“Oh, oh, they’re already having trouble. Excellent, excellent.” (Bind)

After a while, it seemed the members were finally decided, and I could see them slowly starting to move. For a moment, the students were moving around in confusion, but probably Saxon and the Heavy Troopers (Armor) serving as guards were climbing toward the top of the hill in the southwest.

“…The blank rounds aren’t going off.” (??)

“It’s fine. The more time they waste, the more Saxon will be resented.” (Bind)

One of the attendants, a Heavy Trooper (Armor) man, cautiously asked Brigadier General Bind, who nodded calmly while waiting for the blank rounds.

“Is it really okay? He is your younger brother, after all.” (??)

“I don’t care. Father has never expected anything from him to begin with. At best, he’s just a source of relief for someone like me who is burdened with heavy responsibilities.” (Bind)

Just as he answered in a bored tone, there was a loud bang as the blank round finally went off.

“Alright, get started. Ragan, go rough them up as you please.” (Bind)

The Shooter, Ragan, who was shouting in the classroom earlier that morning, bowed with a sinister smile.

“Leave it to me.” (Ragan)

Without any rush, he began to slowly walk away from the scene.

Our makeshift team, with Saxon as the Knight (Ritter), and me alongside him.

Along the river that divides the wilderness from the grasslands in the practice area, Lite, an offensive Heavy Trooper (Armor), and Will, a Spearman (Lancer), were running along the wilderness side. Will, the Spearman (Lancer), had an average speed for his class. In other words, he was a bit slower compared to the more mobile classes.

The only ones visible to the eye were these two and the defensive Heavy Trooper (Armor) student standing guard at the top of the hill.

“Well, the rest must be on the other side of the river.” (Ragan)

Ragan assessed the situation calmly and kept walking without stopping. In both of his hands, he held rapid-fire guns capable of continuous shooting. He was a rare dual-wielding shooter, even on the battlefield.

There was still some distance between him and Lite. Ragan kept walking, while carefully watching the grassland area on the other side of the river. If there were no visible enemies, they were likely planning an ambush from the grasslands. Based on the number of people, there should be two lurking. Most likely, one would hold him off from the grasslands, while the other would advance to target Brigadier General Bind and ignore him. That was probably their plan.

So, the Heavy Trooper (Armor) and the Spearman (Lancer) fumbling in front of Ragan were going to sacrifice the Heavy Trooper (Armor) and send the Spearman (Lancer), who was not suited for stealth movement, to target their Heavy Trooper (Armor).

“Well, for a bunch of kids, they’re thinking somewhat ahead.” (Ragan)

Ragan muttered as he was not particularly impressed, but still keeping his attention on the grasslands. He was confident that if it were just students, especially first-years trying to hide their presence, he would certainly notice if they passed nearby. If they were holding their breath, waiting for Ragan to pass, he’d shoot them first. Well, even if they managed to slip by, if it was a rookie Raider (Commander) or Scout trying an ambush, Brigadier General Bind would handle it somehow.

Thinking like that, Ragan continued walking and noticed the presence of someone on the grassland side. Should he get a little closer to make sure he could hit them? While thinking that, the distance between Ragan and Lite gradually narrowed. Just as Ragan reached the edge of his shooting range, he fired a greeting shot.

Lite deployed his shield just in time, deflecting the bullet. There was a loud “clang!” as the impact was felt. Immediately after, as if timing his shot with Ragan’s first attack, a bullet was fired at Ragan from across the river.

“Oops.” (Ragan)

Ragan moved slightly and dodged the bullet. It was fired by Lev. However, Ragan had already located Lev before the shot, so he easily dodged it and immediately counterattacked, forcing Lev to retreat and hide again. But then, seeing this, Lite tried to make a big move, only for Ragan’s relentless gunfire to pin him down, reducing his movement to a slow crawl.

“Hey, what’s wrong?! You’ll never finish like that!!” (Ragan)

Ragan continues shooting while laughing.

Still trying to break through the situation, Will, the Spearman (Lancer), fired a powerful shell while being protected by Lite. However, the shell fell far short of Brigadier General Bind’s location, hitting the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust.

Undeterred, Will continued firing shells. In the distance, Brigadier General Bind watched with ease as the shells lost momentum and slowed down.

Meanwhile, the students tasked with running took a detour behind the hill, avoiding Will’s barrage.

“Ha! You’ve already gone desperate!” (Ragan)

Ragan laughed as Will continued firing bullets forward, not caring if his magic ran out. The shells continued to be fired relentlessly, kicking up clouds of dust around us. From Brigadier General Bind’s line of sight, their figures had vanished.

“Lux, it’s time.” (Salome)

The voice came from Salome, the Heavy Trooper (Armor) classmate who had been guarding me, concealing me on the hill. I began preparing. My beloved rifle (Counter) had already been assembled with a long-range sniping barrel and was lying ready to fire.

I pointed the barrel through the dust cloud that had made visibility poor, peering through the scope. Despite the thick dust, I could barely make out a figure. Judging by the size, I confirmed it was one of the Heavy Trooper (Armor) guarding Brigadier General Bind. I quickly pulled the trigger.

*Bang*

With a crisp sound, the bullet flew at a tremendous speed, hitting the right shoulder of the enemy’s Heavy Trooper (Armor), causing him to stumble.

“What’s going on?”(Bind)

Right after the numerous shells had kicked up the dust, momentarily obscuring Brigadier General Bind’s view of the battlefield.

“Move behind me just in case.” (??)

The Heavy Trooper (Armor) said so and positioned himself to protect Brigadier General Bind. It happened in that moment.

*Clang*

The mock round struck the Heavy Trooper (Armor), causing him to stumble.

“Enemy soldier! Not much power, but they’re directly in front!” (??)

The Heavy Trooper (Armor) shouted.

“Tsk, so that dust was their plan. Crafty move. But their ambush failed. Hey, make sure to protect me properly.” (Bind)

“Leave it to me. They caught us off guard, but they won’t get another chance.” (??)

Bind pulled out his pistol, waiting for the dust to clear, prepared to shoot the enemy ambushers himself. Both of their gazes were fixed on the dust cloud ahead.

That was why…

They didn’t notice Saxon standing behind them on the hill.

Saxon silently pulled the trigger.

Thus, this ridiculous mock battle was settled in a matter of moments.
