New Students Arrive Quite Late
Second Semester ~ Autumn Chapter
**Today’s diary**
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
Today was the start-of-term ceremony for the second semester.
The file of the school newspaper from 10 years ago that suddenly disappeared from the old school building still hasn’t been found. I told the librarian, but even the teacher just tilted their head, saying, “Why would such a thing exist?”. At least, they say there are no confidential documents among the books and papers left in the old school library.
If that’s the case, did someone peek at us while we were looking at that file?
Certainly, Rick-san and I chased a suspicious pair and left the library, and then the old school building, leaving the door unlocked. Afterwards, Rick-san went back to lock it, but he didn’t check to see if the file was there before locking it. It seems likely that the file was taken at that timing.
If so, did the culprit who stole the file follow us from when we borrowed the key at the new school library? Did they observe us from beyond the door while we were looking at the file in the old school building?
No matter how much I think about it, I don’t understand. And since there was a more pressing matter today, I need to write about that first.

The opening ceremony didn’t involve gathering in the auditorium; it just began normally in the classrooms.
“Is Saxon absent?”
I asked Roy-kun, who was sitting in the back seat, while exchanging greetings after a long time.
Saxon usually arrived earlier than others and studied by himself. Although he might have a bad personality, I thought his ambition was simply admirable. However, he wasn’t in his seat today. Even after the summer vacation, the calm and composed Roy-kun said, “Ah, it seems he will return today,” without changing his expression much. According to Roy-kun, it was common for students, especially nobles, to arrive late.
Indeed, in our class 1-C, there were a few empty seats here and there.
“Since many students are late due to weather or traffic conditions, the ceremony isn’t held in the auditorium, and many nobles know this and intended to stay on vacation until today. I heard it from a senior.” (Rick)
“I see. That makes sense.” (Lux)
So, should we say it’s commendable that the noble students, that is, Roy-kun and Maria, are attending from the very first day of the term?
While chatting with Roy-kun and Sonia, who sat next to me, we waited for our homeroom teacher, Fol-sensei.
A small sound was heard, and the classroom went silent. As usual, Fol-sensei, who looked unenthusiastic, entered the classroom and, after a moment, called out to the door, “Come on in”. The two suspicious individuals I had seen behind the old school building the other day entered the classroom, urged by Fol-sensei.
—
“These are the ones who arrived late for admission. The two will be exchange students from the Principality of Remnos.” (Fol)
Hearing Fol-sensei’s words, the classroom buzzed with noise. Remnos. A country to the east of the Principality of Solar, which was in opposition to our Principality of Rozan. Rosan, Solar, and Remnos were originally one large country, which was divided and ceded to three brothers in ancient times. Thus, the war between the Principality of Rozan and the Principality of Solar is called a brotherly feud war. In this war, Remnos had maintained neutrality.
Due to its location adjacent to both countries, if Remnos were to side with one, the other country would fall into a difficult situation, so both Rozan and Solar maintain friendly relations with Remnos without being too aggressive.
Studying abroad in a military school from Remnos… Even we can vaguely sense a somewhat suspicious feeling. That’s probably why there is a buzz.
However, for me, the fact that these were the same suspicious individuals from the other day was more important. I was surprised and turned my gaze to Rick-san, who was seated at the back right. Rick-san also looked surprised and nodded at me.
There’s no mistake. It’s those two.
“Ah, then, the two of you should introduce yourselves.” (Fol)
Prompted by Fol-sensei, the woman steps forward first.
“I am Rival Lev. My specialty is Shooter. Nice to meet you.” (Lev)
After bowing, she pushed back her long hair that was hanging down in front of her and took a step back. Next, the man stepped forward, but his features were extremely similar to hers.
“I am Rival Lite. As you can see, I am Lev’s twin. My specialty is Heavy Trooper (Armor). Nice to meet you.” (Lite)
Lite points at Lev with his thumb and then steps back.
How should I put it, he looks quite like a soldier.
“The two are from the military school in Remnos. They were delayed due to the transfer procedures, but I think you will all have a lot to learn. Well, get along.” (Fol)
Fol-sensei tried to summarize but suddenly stops.
“By the way, they are a team. Since no one has quit by the second semester, we will add Maria and Catrap to their team. Got it?” (Fol)
“Uh, yes…” (Lux)
“Then, the two of you can use one of the two empty seats. Since some are absent today and there are no classes, if there are no other questions, we will dismiss.” (Fol)
With that, Fol-sensei quickly left the classroom. The rest of us just watched Fol-sensei’s back in a daze.
—
Afterwards, we decided to have lunch together to get to know each other better. The courtyard had strong sunlight and wasn’t very suitable for a relaxed lunch. We moved to the cafeteria inside the school building.
“Wow, so you’re renting an apartment in the city of Rodon and commuting, huh?” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun said while nibbling on his bread.
“Yeah, it was simpler to handle the paperwork for renting an apartment.” (Lev)
Everyone, who didn’t realize that the suspicious individuals were the two in front of us, chatted casually with Lev and Lite. The exceptions were Rick and me, and Sonia, who was sitting next to me. Sonia had seen the unusual expression on my face when I glanced at Rick-san and seemed to have sensed something. She was observing quietly.
“Is Remnos very different from Rodon?” (Ratt)
“Well, we’ve just arrived, so it’s hard to compare, but I don’t think there are major differences.” (Lite)
Their responses were smooth, which made them seemmed suspicious to me as well. It might be better to ask about the previous incident, but I felt like observing them a bit more first.
“So, why did you come to study abroad?” (Heinz)
Heinz asked bluntly.
“Well… we don’t really understand it either. As Fol-sensei mentioned earlier, we were attending our home country’s military school, but there seems to have been some kind of arrangement with this academy. The sudden offer came around June, and we were selected.” (Lev)
“Normally, wouldn’t there be students sent from here (Oran) as well?” (Frank)
Frank tilted his head.
“We don’t know either. Well, they’re covering not only the tuition but also the food and living expenses, so we were happy to come.” (Lite)
Apparently, the two’s family was not very wealthy, which was why they ended up enrolling in the military school. The conversation expanded as we ate lunch. Afterwards, since there were no classes for the rest of the day, and Lev and Lite had to unpack their rooms, we parted ways when we left the cafeteria.
Once the two were out of sight, I took a little distance from everyone and consulted with Rick-san.
“What should we do?” (Lux)
Sonia, then, came over and asked if she could get an explanation. Heinz also came closer, wondering what we were discussing.
I hesitated a bit and only told them.
“I’ll talk to the two of you tonight.” (Lux)
