Day That Couldn’t Be Relaxing

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

**Today’s Diary**

The day after we arrived at the Bell Household, I spent the entire day talking about the academy with Maria’s parents and siblings.

It was a little amusing to see Gowell-san’s eyes widen in surprise as he said, “Maria, who was previously a quiet girl, has become so much brighter and more outgoing”.

Even from my perspective, Maria’s growth has been remarkable. She used to be so shy and barely spoke at all in the beginning.

Well, that aside, tomorrow we’re all going on a picnic. There’s a large lake near the town of Stola, where the Bell Household has a villa, and we’ll be able to enjoy some time in the water.

It’s shaping up to be a truly relaxing summer vacation. I’m really looking forward to it.

The area around the lake was beautifully maintained and bustling with many vacationers enjoying their summer vacation. As we rode along in our carriage, we passed through a lively town lined with souvenir shops and eateries. Once we moved past the bustling area, we reached an entrance guarded by gatekeepers. We were able to pass through without trouble, entering an area filled with noble villas.

“Wow, this is incredible.” (Lux)

I murmured in awe. Before us were several noble villas, all spaced out with ample room between them. The designs varied, but the style was uniform.

Each villa was built on the slope of a mountain, with the main house by the lakeshore and the house extending further up the slope. This was another room at the top of the steps, which was mainly used as a bedroom. This setup meant that every morning, the occupants would wake up to a stunning view of the lake. The fact that they built bedrooms on the slope just for that purpose was utterly extravagant. But according to Maria, “Lately, many families can’t afford to maintain their villas, so they end up selling them”. So perhaps it was not as carefree as I initially thought.

After changing into our swimwear at the Bell Household villa, we wasted no time and immediately plunged into the lake right in front of the main house!

Splash!! Four loud splashes followed as Maria and Noris walked slowly towards the water’s edge.

The weather was perfect, with strong sunlight pouring down, and the water felt surprisingly pleasant. After some playful splashing around, I floated on the shallow water, staring up at the sky.

Ah, summer. Isn’t it the best?

As I glanced around, I saw that Heinz and the others were still playing, splashing water at each other. Beyond them, Sebas and the others were preparing lunch. We were going to have those hearty skewers of grilled meat and vegetables.

Looking further, I noticed Maria and Noris enjoying themselves on a boat. The lake was dotted with boats, each with people having fun in their own way. I thought about how I’d like to go boating later too.

I’m really looking forward to it.

As I was lost in these thoughts, a splash of water suddenly hit my face.

“Wah!” (Lux)

I quickly sat up to see Sonia laughing at me.

“What are you daydreaming about?” (Sonia)

She asked with a smile.

At the moment I stood up to splash water back, it happened.

In the center of the lake, I heard screams of “Danger!” and “Ahh!!”, and at the same time, I heard a crashing sound. When I turned towards the sound, Maria and Noris’s boat had collided with another tourist’s boat, and the two were being thrown into the lake!

“Noris!!” “Maria-chan!!” (All)

We hurriedly tried to head over there, but even if we swam, our abilities were limited.

“Sebas-san!” (Heinz)

Heinz called out to Sebas, and Sebas and the others were already urgently rowing a boat.

We watched anxiously as Sebas-san tried to reach them, but then, a boy arrived before them and pulled the two onto his own boat. He also retrieved the other two who had been thrown from the other boat, and then carefully turned his boat’s bow towards us.

“Ojou-sama!” (Sebas)

Sebas, not minding his clothes getting wet, rushed to the boat that had come to the shallow water.

“Are you safe! Have you been injured?” (Sebas)

“I’m fine. This person helped us right away.” (Maria)

When the boat was fully stopped in the shallow water, a boy with a refined appearance, about our age, got off the boat while saying with a refreshing smile.

“I’m glad everyone is safe.” (??)

“Thank you very much! These are my sister and friends!” (Lux)

I said as I approached him and bowed deeply.

“No, I just happened to be nearby.” (??)

The modest boy continued.

“I’m Willard. And you are?” (Willard)

“I’m Lux. Fort Lux. Nice to meet you. Thank you very much.” (Lux)

“Lux, nice to meet you. I’m glad your sister and friend are safe.” (Willard)

We shook hands.

“We will properly thank Willard-sama’s family later, but first, may I invite you to lunch, albeit modestly?” (Sebas)

Seeing the exchange, Sebas invited Willard to the barbecue.

“There’s no need for thanks to my family. I came alone to visit my uncle’s house, and my parents are absent. My uncle is also away until the day after tomorrow. However, I would be grateful for the lunch invitation.” (Willard)

Willard, who handled the situation smoothly, exuded a noble aura. He was likely a noble. Thus, we ended up having lunch with Willard.

—-

“Wow, the Bell Household is a noble family who rules this town, right?” (Willard)

Willard, while chewing meat, looked somewhat surprised.

“Is Willard-sama’s uncle a noble?” (Sebas)

At Sebas’s question, Willard made a slightly troubled face and said,

“Please keep that part a secret. Actually, I was prohibited from riding a boat alone until my uncle returns. If my uncle hears about this, not only will he be angry, but I might not be allowed to stay at the villa alone. So, I’m sorry.” (Willard)

“No, we are the ones who received help. If that’s the case, I won’t pry further.” (Sebas)

“By the way, what kind of gathering is this? Are you all noble youths?” (Willard)

“No, we are Maria-chan’s classmates! That’s it.” (Sonia)

Since we were around the same age, Willard and us quickly became friends. We enjoyed the barbecue and laughed together while joking around. Among the lively group, Maria was a bit quieter. Since she was originally a reserved person, she might be feeling shy.

After finishing the meal, I laid down on the sandy beach, rubbing my full belly, and almost fell asleep due to tiredness from the fun. As I drowsily looked from the corner of my eye, I saw Willard and Maria exchanging some words, but my eyelids quietly closed.

“Lux, it’s time to wake up.” (Heinz)

Woken by Heinz, I looked around with a still groggy head.

“How long have I slept?” (Lux)

“I don’t know exactly since I was dozing off too, but it seems quite some time has passed.” (Heinz)

Indeed, the position of the sun has changed significantly.

“What about everyone else?” (Lux)

“Everyone just woke up and went back to the mansion to change. It seems Willard left while we were asleep. We should head back too.” (Heinz)

Urged by Heinz, we returned to the villa. After brushing off the sand and taking a shower, my head finally started to clear. When I changed clothes and went to the living room, everyone was enjoying a relaxing tea time.

“It was fun today.” (Lux)

I said as I sat on the sofa, and an attendant brought tea.

As we enjoyed a leisurely time, an attendant burst into the living room through the open door, having roughly opened the front door. Even as Sebas-san tried to admonish the attendant, the attendant reported.

“It’s urgent! Bandits have taken hostages and barricaded themselves in a nearby mansion!” (??)

…Bandits? Could they be the ones we missed at the pass?

Despite Sebas’s request to “Please stay here quietly”, we headed toward the villa where the bandits were barricaded.

The bandits were holed up in a detached villa extending from the main mansion up the slope. It was a smaller building used as a bedroom by many nobles. The bandits were shouting something from the windows of that building. Many people were watching from a distance on the lake side.

“What are the bandits demanding?” (Heinz)

Heinz asked one of the onlookers.

“It seems they are demanding the release of their captured comrades, as well as funds and horses to escape.” (??)

“And the hostages?” (Heinz)

“It looks like it’s a daughter of this household and one of the female servants.” (??)

Heinz thanked the person and looked at us, nodding silently.

So, it is indeed the remnants from the pass the other day. If that’s the case, it’s not just someone else’s problem. It’s our mistake for letting them escape.

We moved away from the crowd and formed a circle.

“They seem to be the remnants of the bandits from that time.” (Heinz)

I said that, Heinz agreed.

“I didn’t see them, but how many escaped?” (Sonia)

“At least four.” (Lux)

I answered.

“We can’t just leave them, degozaru.” (Hana)

“We need to help.” (Sonia)

Hana and Sonia said, each insisting on the rescue.

“How do we do that?” (Noris)

Noris asked.

“I don’t know, but… we can’t just leave them.” (Maria)

Maria said, glaring at the villa where the bandits were holed up.

“We can’t just take our time. Maybe we should bypass the slope and charge in?” (Heinz)

Heinz suggested when a voice came from behind.

“Haphazard strategies are not praiseworthy.” (Rita)

Rita-san’s had arrived.
