Interclass Competition (3): Decisive Victory!

Zess, the Knight (Ritter) from the enemy team Gentis, witnessed a bullet, presumably from a Spearman (Lancer), exploded right near him. He probably thought that our team (Catrap)’s Spearman (Lancer) had launched a surprise attack.

Unlike other types of troops, the defense of Heavy Trooper (Armor) was ineffective against Spearman (Lancer). If the Heavy Trooper (Armor) struck early, Zess would be left exposed. What would Zess do? He would likely head down the hill to regroup with his teammates sooner or later. However, although visibly shaken, Zess did not move from his position. He looked around anxiously but did not leave his position.

In that case.

I fired another shot. There was not just one landmine planted on the hill. Seeing the paint explode dramatically once again, Zess hurriedly fled down the hill. He left behind the heavily equipped Heavy Trooper (Armor) and Engineer (Tech).

Zess ran down the hill alone. Zess was not simply rushing blindly. Spearman (Lancer), due to the weight of their weapons, was a relatively slow-moving troop. He must have thought that fleeing alone would allow him to escape. Considering possible contingencies, we had also planted some landmines in the grasslands.

However, it seemed they were no longer necessary. I took my eyes off the scope and watched Zess ran across the grasslands. When Zess reached the middle of the grassland, a girl who had quietly risen from the spot where Zess had passed appeared. She aimed her sidearm at Zess.

Sonia’s bullet struck Zess in the back of the head.

When the signal shot for the end of the match rang out, and after confirming that the students from Team Gentis were emerging from the forest in a daze, I descended from the tree and headed towards the grassland.

The other members, except for Sonia, had not yet emerged from the forest. Sonia, who had been absentmindedly watching the enemy (Gentis), noticed me and ran over, leaping into my arms.

“We did it! We did it, Lux! Amazing! We really won against the second-year team!! Amazing!” (Sonia)

She expressed her joy.

“I’m glad we won. Thanks to Sonia for taking him down.” (Lux)

“I was just hiding in the grasslands as per everyone’s plan! The amazing ones are Lux and everyone else!” (Sonia)

As we celebrated, the members of Team Catrap finally emerged from the forest. Sonia, slightly blushing, hurriedly detached from me but soon ran to embrace Hana and Maria, sharing the joy of victory.

“Lux, great job. It went well.” (Heinz)

Heinz said, approaching with a raised hand. I responded with a high-five.

“How did things go with you, Heinz?” (Lux)

“As you can see, everyone survived. We had traps and met them in a favorable position. If it’s just about buying time, it’s not that difficult.” (Heinz)

Heinz showed a confident smile.

“Ratt-kun and Frank, great job too!” (Lux)

I high-fived the two of them.

“I took down one myself!” (Ratt)

Ratt-kun said excitedly after hitting his target for the first time.

“Glad the traps worked well.” (Frank)

Frank said coolly.

“And Rick, good job too!” (Rick)

I exchanged a final high-five with Rick, who arrived last.

“Well, I didn’t really do anything, so I’m not sure what to say…” (Rick)

Rick said with a somewhat puzzled expression.

After celebrating our victory thoroughly, we were signaled by the instructors to gather. We all moved to the designated meeting point. There, the instructor declared.

“This match is declared a victory for Team Catrap!” (??)

We erupted into cheers once more. Zess and his team looked down in frustration.

Oh, right. I have to check it properly before I forget.

“Zess-senpai.” (Lux)

“What is it?” (Zess)

Zess responded with a disgruntled tone as I called out to him.

“I need you to keep your promise.” (Lux)

“Promise?” (Zess)

“We said that if we won, you would answer one question.” (Lux)

I said.

“Oh… damn. What is it?” (Zess)

I pointed out the dates when the cat was being harassed and asked.

“On these days, and the day after, why were you alone in the unused room on the fifth floor?” (Lux)

At first, Zess didn’t understand the question, but after furrowing his brow, his expression changed to one of realization as he blurted out.

“Huh? How do you know about that?” (Zess)

“Oh, so it was really you, Zess-senpai.” (Lux)

“Huh? What are you talking about? I don’t get it. I wasn’t there!” (Zess)

“You just said, ‘How do you know?’” (Lux)

“Shut up! I told you, I wasn’t there!” (Zess)

He yelled.

The instructor, who had been watching the exchange, interjected.

“Even if Zess was at that location on the dates you specified, what does it mean?” (??)

“I’ll answer that.” (Lamie)

A senior with short, pale golden hair spoke out to the instructor from behind. It was Kinder Via Lavitomivia, commonly known as Lamie-senpai, the leader of the Sniper Circle, standing proudly and resolutely.
