First Time at Military Training Building (3)
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
When I mentioned that I might know where my lost gun was, Saras-senpai’s expression changed.
“Hmm? What do you mean?” (Saras)
Surprised by Saras-senpai’s sharp gaze, I explained about the incident with the cat that had been bullied recently. Saras-senpai and Lamie-senpai listened silently. After hearing everything, Lamie-senpai spoke up.
“So, according to you, you know which room the troublemaker who was targeting the kitty-chan is in.” (Lamie)
It seemed like Lamie-senpai unconsciously liked cats, judging from how he referred to it as “kitty-chan”.
“Yes. It’s a room on the fifth floor, and I remember the location.” (Lux)
“The fifth floor… Currently, there’s no room being used by any of the military clubs. Alright, let’s go check it out. Lux, do you have the time?” (Lamie)
“Of course, I’m free.” (Lux)
With the plan settled, the three of us proceeded together towards that room on the fifth floor. Along the way, I asked them,
“Why isn’t the fifth floor being used?” (Lux)
Saras-senpai answered.
“It’s for a trivial reason. You know there are eight military specialties. They are Scout, Sniper, Engineer (Tech), Heavy Trooper (Armor), Raider (Commander), Spearman (Lancer), Knight (Ritter) and Shooter. Well, strictly speaking, there are also Combat Medic (Medica) and Artilleryman (Gunner), but there are fewer students enrolled in those, so these two clubs don’t exist. Anyway, there’s a certain number of people in the world who think that those who occupy higher places are more important.” (Saras)
“I see.” (Lux)
“And so, what do you think would happen if someone who wants to be in a high place is in each club?” (Saras)
“Dispute…?” (Lux)
“Exactly. Well, we Snipers and Engineers (Tech) have a lot of craftsman types among us, so we don’t feel like joining such disputes and just get along using the first-floor space. However, there were issues in the past among other clubs, and the school’s administration intervened. That’s why the fifth floor became a storage room.” (Saras)
“Yeah, it does seem like a silly reason.” (Lux)
“Exactly. Most disputes are usually over trivial reasons.” (Saras)
We had this conversation while climbing the stairs until we reached the fifth floor.
The appearance of the floor was identical to the Sniper Club.
“Probably that room.” (Lux)
The place I pointed to was a small room where Lamie-senpai had been in the Sniper Club’s floor. I heard that this room was exclusively used by the club leader.
We opened the door to the room in question, echoing louder than necessary on the deserted fifth floor, and the air inside dispersed, giving off a dusty smell. Although some light came in through the window, we cautiously proceeded through the slightly dim room.
“Yeah. It seems someone has definitely been in this room recently. Take a look.” (Saras)
Saras-senpai pointed to the base of the central table, where dust had gathered slightly.
Lamie-senpai remained silent and began searching around. Following suit, we also looked around again. After a while, Lamie-senpai muttered, “Found it”. Sure enough, a sniper rifle was hidden between the bookshelf and the wall, wedged in. Placing the retrieved gun on the table, we all stood silently and looked at it with arm crossed
“…Lux, are you and that girl Maria the only ones who know about this?” (Lamie)
In response to Ramie-senpai’s question, I relayed what I had told my entire team. Also, that the suspected culprit was soon to be our opponent in an upcoming practice match.
“I see. Then, sorry, but could you impose a gag order on your team members for a while? We’ll take it from here.” (Lamie)
Lamie-senpai sent a glance to Saras-senpai, and they nodded to each other.
“I understand.” (Lux)
I replied, and thus ended the first day at the military branch.

Figuring that it would be better to tell them sooner rather than later, I gathered the members of Team Cattrap that evening and told them about what had happened at the service building.
“If the unauthorized carrying of spare weapons is true… that could lead to disciplinary action, right? This situation is getting a bit serious.” (Rick)
Rick-san looked puzzled while stroking his beard with his hand.
“But there’s nothing we can do, so for now, we should just keep quiet.” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun said in a relaxed tone.
“Yeah, it’s a good opportunity. Why don’t we decide how to lose the practice match? Degozaru” (Hana)
Hana suggested.
“Well, maybe we should just focus on what we’re not good at?” (Frank)
Frank proposed.
“In what way?” (Sonia)
Sonia asked.
“I think if we do it intentionally, it might come off awkward. For example, I know I lack stamina. So, on the day, I’ll just run around until I’m exhausted. Even if I do my job, it won’t be very satisfactory.” (Frank)
Frank explained and everyone agreed.
“In that case, I’ll shoot bullets like I used to.” (Ratt)
Ratt-kun decided on his old shooting style.
“Well then, I’ll…” “In that case, I’ll…” Each started to reveal their weaknesses, turning it into a public showdown.
Up until then, Sonia had been quietly listening, but now she spoke up.
“How about Lux doesn’t do anything this time?” (Sonia)
“What do you mean?” (Heinz)
Heinz asked.
“Yeah. Lux used to be a hunter, so I think he has fewer weaknesses compared to the rest of us. So, like Frank said, instead of showing something awkward, wouldn’t it be better to conserve until the real deal?” (Sonia)
“I see… Lux, what do you think?” (Heinz)
“Yeah, I’m okay with that.” (Lux)
I responded to Heinze’s question.
With that settled, I decided to observe quietly during the practice match.
Since I can’t snipe the opponent in the real match anyway, keeping my cards close to my chest would be helpful.
I thanked Sonia with a glance, and she winked back at me discreetly.
The practice match was now just around the corner.
