Baron Kreitz’s Territory (1)

Having successfully contacted the merchants and the Order, the purpose of coming to the former Warden territory was accomplished. Currently, they need to leave as soon as possible. If Marquis Ivan’s people find out their true identity, it would become troublesome.

“Arc-sama, where are we heading next?” (Yulia)

“We’re going to enter the Baron Kreitz’s territory. Although I’m on good terms with Baron Kreitz, considering his position, it’s better not to greet him this time.” (Arc)

Baron Kreitz’s territory was on the opposite side of the Marquis Ivan’s territory, adjacent to the former Warden territory. The Kreitz and Warden baronies originally had a good relationship, and during Marquis Ivan’s attack, they allowed Arc and his companions to pass through their territory to escape to the capital. However, if Marquis Ivan were to hear that Arc had met with Baron Kreitz, it could deteriorate the relationship between Baron Kreitz and Marquis Ivan. Therefore, this time, Arc planned to enter the barony secretly.

After entering the Kreitz’s territory and advancing for a while, the second city, Slavia, came into view. Within the city walls, houses were densely packed around a massive building, where many people lived. Even from a distance, the central building was impressive, but up close, its size was overwhelming. It stood five stories tall, towering above the other buildings by two stories.

“Is this the lord’s mansion?”  (Yulia)

Yulia asked, awestruck by its size.

“No, the baron does not live in this city. This is the Merchant Guild.” (Arc)

“A Merchant Guild this big…” (Yulia)

“Floors three to five are entirely owned by the Warden Association. This guild is also the headquarters of the Warden Association.” (Arc)

In fact, the heart of the Warden Household’s mercantile operations was in this city.

“I always thought the Warden Association was in the former Warden territory.” (Yulia)

“That land was granted by His Majesty the King after my father bought the baron’s title. The Warden Household originally operated as merchants here.” (Arc)

Arc and Yulia entered the Merchant Guild.

Inside, many merchants were negotiating deals with shopkeepers and customers, creating a bustling atmosphere. Some familiar merchants were there, but none of them noticed Arc. They were absorbed as they were in their business. The two made their way to the third floor, where the Warden Association was located. They were careful not to cause any trouble and disturb the merchants doing their business.

“I’m here, Hangue.” (Arc)

Arc opened the door to the representative’s office on the third floor.

“Hey, Arc. Long time no see.” (Hangue)

In the office was Hangue, the representative. He was Arc’s cousin and had been appointed as the representative at a young age several years ago. Instead of running his own shop, he increased the association’s profits by consulting for merchants.

“This is my cousin, Hangue Warden. He is the representative of the Warden Association. This is my servant, Yulia.” (Arc)

“My name is Yulia.” (Hangue)

As Yulia bowed, Hang took her hand, brought his face close to hers, and said cheerfully.

“Oh, an older sister type. She’s just my type. Arc, sell her to me!” (Hangue)

Hangue instantly recognized that Yulia was a slave and treated her as a commodity. This made Yulia feel a chill she hadn’t felt in a long time. Hangue’s polite demeanor made it all the more eerie. Despite being a slave, Yulia found it unsettling how naturally Hang treated her as merchandise. He was indeed a merchant through and through, someone she preferred to avoid. Yulia quietly took refuge behind Arc.

Arc completely ignored Hang’s joke, and Hang continued the conversation as if nothing had happened, his expression turning serious and slightly apologetic as he bowed his head to Arc.

“By the way, Arc, I’m sorry about the recent incident. My condolences for your father. I should have attended the funeral in the capital, but I was away on business negotiations in a neighboring country and couldn’t make it.” (Hangue)

“It’s alright. For a merchant, business negotiations are more important.” (Arc)

“I apologize. Please convey my regards to Yanna-neesan and the others.” (Hangue)

Hangue’s serious expression turned into a smile as he asked.

“So, what brings you here today? You’ve come all this way, so there must be something important.” (Hangue)

“Yes. As you might have heard, the House of Baron Warden has been relocated to the Mikanda region. We’re trying to develop that rural area, but the situation remains difficult.” (Arc)

“Well? Feel free to use the Warden Association’s funds. I assume you’ve already used a considerable amount.” (Hangue)

The association fully supported the House of Baron. This was only natural, considering both were controlled by Arc’s father, but it was still appreciated. The money used to buy Yulia, travel expenses, and support for the Order all came from the association’s substantial financial backing.

“Thanks to you, we’re not worried about funds. The problem is manpower.” (Arc)

“Indeed, there wouldn’t be many people in such a remote area. I see, so that’s why you’re traveling around?” (Hangue)

“Exactly. Are there any good personnel in Baron Kreitz’s territory?” (Arc)

“It’s hard to say on short notice.” (Hangue)

Hang thought for a moment. Then, he suddenly raised a finger as if remembering something.

“Now that you mention it, there’s something coming up soon.” (Hangue)

“Something?” (Arc)

“The Warden Cup Mountain Range Endurance Race.” (Hangue)
