**Today’s Diary**

Today, I met my classmates for the first time. I thought they would all be around my age, but there were adults and children about the same age as my younger sister, which confused me a bit. It seems that the Knight Military School gathers people from all over the country. However, it appears that most students are around my age.

Incidentally, I wasn’t the only one who missed the entrance ceremony. Apparently, there are still a few first-year students who haven’t arrived yet.

I was assigned to Class C.

The small, intricately carved metal chest badge with the letter ‘C’ looked a bit cool to me.

The Oran Knight Military Academy was located in the center of Rodon, the largest city in the north, close to the northern battlefront. It was a very large academy with a circular site right in the heart of Rodon. To give an idea of its size, one could imagine a small-town fitting inside it. The school’s status was symbolized by the fact that it took precedence over the mansions of the nobility and occupied a vast campus in a prime location in the city.

It was colder here than in the southern village where I lived. I was a bit worried about my sister catching a cold as I followed the dorm mother to the cafeteria. The dorm mother looked around the dining hall and her eyes fell on a boy about my age.

“Oh, Heinz! Just the person I needed.” (??)

The boy called Heinz looked over at us with a piece of rye bread in his mouth.

“He’s starting in 1-C like you from today. Please show him around and take him to Fol-sensei.” (??)

Still chewing, he finally swallowed the bread and said, “Come over here!”, beckoning me with his hand. Heinz was about my height. With a friendly look, Heinz, who had his blond hair cut in a short bob, urged me to sit at the nearby seat.

“Wait a moment!” he said, then fetched breakfast for me, handing it over with a “Let’s talk while we eat.”

“I’m Heinz, Murial Heinz. What’s your name?” (Heinz)

“Fort Lux. You can call me Lux.” (Lux)

“Lux, got it. You can call me Heinz. Oh, that’s a long rifle you have there. So, Lux, are you a sniper?” (Heinz)

“Yes, the person who recruited me said I was suited to be a sniper.” (Lux)

“I thought so. I’m a shooter. Let’s be good friends, fellow gunmen.” (Heinz)

I firmly shook Heinz’s outstretched hand.

After finishing breakfast, Heinz took out of the dormitory. As we walked down the covered corridor that connected the dormitory to the school building, he mentioned how convenient it was to not need an umbrella on rainy days. From the main gate that suddenly came into view, many people who seemed to be students were also heading toward the school building. I later learned that those from wealthy families or with families in town rented houses or rooms and commuted to the academy.

The school building was a very large building unified with pale white plaster and exuding a bright atmosphere. I was surprised to hear from Heinz that this was also only one part of the overall facility. While looking around and making sure not to lose sight of Heinz, I saw a familiar woman walking towards us.

“Rita-san?” (Lux)

She noticed us too and approached with a smile and a wave.

“Starting today, huh? Make sure you study properly.” (Rita)

She playfully tapped my forehead.

“Why are you here, Rita-san?” (Lux)

I asked.

“I also teach at this academy. Considering your sister Noris, I decided to focus on nurturing the next generation for a while.” (Rita)

“By the way, how is Noris?” (Lux)

“Oh, she’s having a great time, so don’t worry.” (Rita)

With that, Rita walked away briskly, saying she’d see us later.

As I watched Rita leave, Heinz grabbed my shoulder excitedly.

“Lux! You know Zalard-sensei?”

A bit taken aback by his enthusiasm, I replied.

“Y-yes. It was Rita-san who recruited me…” (Lux)

Heinz dramatically collapsed in the hallway, exclaiming, “I’m so jealous~~~~!”

Apparently, Rita was not often at the academy but was admired by students for her beauty and cool demeanor. She also seemed to hold a fairly high rank. When I was in the village, she was certainly well-behaved during the day, but at night he would drink alcohol and become a mess, so it was a bit surprising.

Waiting for Heinz to regain his composure, we resumed walking.

“Here we are. Excuse us.” (Heinz)

Following Heinz, I entered a room labeled “Preparation Room.” Inside, a middle-aged man with disheveled hair and wrinkled clothes lounged on a sofa, reading through documents. He was a stark contrast to Rita-san.

“Fol-sensei, I’ve brought the new student, Lux.” (Heinz)

As if just realizing we were there upon Heinz’s words, Fol-sensei looked towards us. His eyes were sharp, and there was a large scar above his right eye.

“Oh, right, today was the day… Rita’s recommendation, I believe.” (Fol)

After looking Lux up and down, he instructed, “Sit over there and wait. Heinz, stay in the classroom.” With that, Fol returned his attention to the documents.

“See you later, Lux!” (Heinz)

Heinz said as he left the room, leaving behind an uncomfortable silence.

I sat quietly in the first chair I could find while Fol looked at some documents for a while, then he clicked his tongue and threw them down.

“Alright then, let’s go. Follow me.” (Fol)

While still feeling a bit uneasy, I followed the teacher and stood in front of the door of classroom 1-C.
