The Demonic Continent
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
Turning my back on everyone, I mounted Hokuto’s back and let the mana flow while holding up the mana stone in my hand. At that moment, a strange sensation spread around. Not only Hokuto, but the beastkin too, seemed to feel something, as their ears and tails stood slightly on end. The mana stone itself just faintly glowed, but its effect seemed immense. After all, the sounds of battle, which had been clear as day as we cleared out the surrounding monsters to establish our base, had noticeably diminished.
However…
“This is… even more of a wild card than I expected.”
I had learned from Lambda how to handle this thing, so I just let a tiny bit of mana flow as a test. But midway through, it seemed like the mana stone was demanding more of my mana, almost as if it was saying, “Give me more.” If I consciously cut off my mana, it would stop, but just activating it for a few seconds drained a considerable amount of magic. This thing had terrible fuel efficiency. It seemed like only someone with vast reserves of magic or some means of replenishing it could use it. Another reason why this plan could only be executed by me had emerged.
“It’s more like a living being than a tool at this point. But if I can adjust it properly…” (Sirius)
Lambda and the others were manipulating monsters with the same magic circle engraved on their bodies as this thing, but they hadn’t issued such complex commands. From their overall movement, they probably maintained a certain distance to keep formation and advanced straightforwardly unless enemies were nearby. And the flying monsters probably were just instructed to aim for the defensive barrier. So, the orders I give to the monsters need to be simple and few. That way, the consumption of magic would decrease, allowing me to extend the duration and reach of my instructions.
“I command you…” (Sirius)
By activating it once more, I had gained a better understanding of its limitations and how to handle it. It seemed that the burden and consumption of mana from the mana stone increased when the commands twisted the instincts of the monsters. By the way, the command I sent out during the test run was “Head to the magical continent,” but that was too much for this single magic stone to handle.
That was why commands with minimal interference with the monsters…
“Your prey is… me!” (Sirius)
Manipulating only the instinctual direction of prey consumption for survival.
As the magic stone activated and the instructions were sent out across a wide range, the surrounding monsters all turned towards me at once. It was like a pack of hungry wolves. There might be some differences in effectiveness due to some shock preventing the commands from reaching or variations in species and individual traits, but at least the majority within the range seemed to have taken the bait.
“From the left flank.” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
Since I needed to concentrate on maintaining the mana stone, I had to rely mostly on Hokuto. In other words, Hokuto’s burden was heavier than mine. Nevertheless, with confidence, Hokuto let out a bark and kicked the ground, dashing towards the front-left as instructed. Despite facing a considerable number of foes, Hokuto continued to charge through the midst of violence without slowing down.
“That’s enough. Let’s make a wide turn while proceeding!” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
The force of monsters recognizing me as prey was tremendous. However, this time, we didn’t need to engage with every one of them. Utilizing the speed and strength of the Hundred Wolves, we dodged or knocked aside only the monsters blocking our path, but there was a slight hint of fatigue in our movements. As expected, Hokuto seems to be tired from the continuous battle since the morning.
“This is my first time acting as a decoy on this scale.” (Sirius)
“…Woof.” (Hokuto)
“Yeah, don’t hesitate. Hokuto… I’m counting on you!” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
It reminded me of the time in my previous life when I and a dog worked together. Back then, we were inexperienced and faced imminent danger many times, but now, with both experience and power far surpassing that life, no matter how reckless the plan, it was not impossible. Now, it was about how many monsters we could attract and how much we could alleviate the burden on our comrades.
“Adjust course to two o’clock! Then ten o’clock!” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
While the Demonic Continent was still days away by carriage, Hokuto could reach it quickly if he ran seriously. However, since we needed to pull along many monsters this time, we deliberately reduced our speed and maneuvered left and right to ensure the mana stone’s commands reached every corner. At this point, dealing solely with Hokuto became increasingly challenging, so I also supported with throwing knives and [Magnum] while channeling mana into the mana stone.
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
“Don’t mind me, just run!” (Sirius)
It was a bark that seemed to say, “Don’t push yourself too hard,” but to ensure both of our survival, we should distribute the burden as evenly as possible. If one of us were to falter, the other would soon follow suit. Even facing unexpected attacks threatening to halt our momentum during the melee, we reached the frontline base where we had spent several days fighting.
“Abandoned, huh? Well, it was just an obstacle for him anyway.” (Sirius)
Despite overall deterioration from consecutive battles, the frontline base had only the main gate of the defensive wall clearly destroyed. From Lambda’s perspective, it was merely a passage, and it seemed they hadn’t stationed any monsters there. This meant that reclaiming the base later shouldn’t be too difficult. And since there was no reason for me to linger here, we maintained our speed and simply passed through.
As we cut through the monsters at the main gate, exiting the frontline base in a dignified manner, we found ourselves in the battlefield before the defensive wall where we had been fighting for days. It had become a chaotic land where monsters rampage freely. Everywhere, there are territorial disputes, small monsters being chased for food. It was truly reminiscent of the end of the world. As we plunge into this chaos, visible-range monsters turn their attention towards us. The power of the mana stone still seems to be in good shape.
“We’re doing well. Come on, bring it on. Your prey is here.” (Sirius)
With monsters also chasing us from behind, we couldn’t afford to stop. Passing through the frontline base and even the second defensive wall, we finally arrive at the first defensive wall, which now serves primarily for monitoring the Demonic Continent.
Monsters were still roaming freely here as usual, but what caught our attention was the path we heard about that connected to the Demonic Continent. According to the soldiers’ reports, a path suddenly appeared from the sea. Upon closer inspection, it seemed to be a bridge constructed by magic, possibly by raising the seabed. Considering the intense ocean currents and the considerable distance to the Demonic Continent, it’s unimaginable how much mana was used to create such a massive bridge. In any case, we needed to do something about this bridge soon, as the influx of monsters wouldn’t stop until it was destroyed, but at the moment, it wasn’t the time for that.
“Now then, it’s time for our guests to return.” (Sirius)
We moved with the monsters to the Demonic Continent, sending back as many as we could before destroying the bridge. While the task itself was straightforward, it was a highly challenging ordeal to ensure the survival of the monsters within the Demonic Continent until they all finished crossing the bridge. Furthermore, we had already entered the nighttime hours, and until this mana stone broke, it would continue to attract monsters endlessly. Therefore, we had to keep moving throughout the night.
“Heh… Haha…” (Sirius)
“Woof.” (Hokuto)
“Yeah, ow that I’ve come this far, I actually want to laugh. Well then, let’s see what kind of welcome the Demonic Continent has in store.” (Sirius)
Despite feeling amused for some reason in such a situation, I entered the rocky bridge connecting the continents along with Hokuto.
Crossing the stone bridge and setting foot into the Demonic Continent for the first time, the first thing I felt was the difference in the air. It wasn’t about the smell or climate change. It was a unique atmosphere that made it clear this was a place where only non-humans existed, a place where humans shouldn’t tread.
“It seems like quite a vast continent. There must be many creatures here that I’ve never encountered before.” (Sirius)
The sun had already completely set, but since I could enhance my night vision with magic and Hokuto had the hyper-sensory ability of a hundred wolves, nighttime movement was hardly a problem. As I focused my attention from the beach to the nearby forest and towards the center of the continent, I sensed countless unfamiliar monster presences. Normally, it wouldn’t be wise to move around at night, but with many monsters chasing us from behind, we had no choice but to press forward.
“It should be around here. It’s time to change direction.” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
The reason why I went deeper into the Demonic Continent even though I knew it was dangerous was because there were other places I wanted to check besides guiding the monsters. According to Lambda’s information, there was supposedly a volcano spewing lava somewhere in the Demonic Continent, and we were aiming for that active volcano. Since it was my first time visiting the continent, I didn’t know the exact location, but it shouldn’t be difficult to find with Hokuto’s nose.
Changing our direction from the outer perimeter to the inland while dealing with attacking monsters, we eventually entered a rocky area devoid of vegetation. Simultaneously, the temperature began to rise sharply, indicating that we were nearing our destination, the vicinity of the volcano.
“Here we are. It’s even larger than I heard.” (Sirius)
Continuing through the rugged terrain, we eventually arrived at a basin-like area, where there was a gigantic structure resembling a steel mill, roughly carved from the bedrock. It was clear that this civilization was built by Lambda. Perhaps, similar to the bridge connecting the continents, it was constructed using vast mana. I quickly recognized it as a steel mill, partly because of the information I had received from Lambda beforehand, and partly because of the mechanism of melting iron ore using the lava flowing from the volcano. It was where the unidentified weapons carried by the monsters attacking Sandor were made.
Although it seemed to be an abandoned place, with monsters wandering around aimlessly, considering the current situation, it should be ignored. However, I wanted to eliminate any potential future threats that intelligent monsters might exploit here. If monsters had naturally found their way here, it would be a different story, but any potential sources of trouble created by human intervention should be eliminated as soon as possible.
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
“No, your turn hasn’t come yet. Let’s use that for now.” (Sirius)
To be frank, this steel mill was vast, and it seemed that it would require several advanced magic spells or a large amount of explosives to render it unusable. However, in this specific case, it wouldn’t be so difficult. If they were using lava to melt iron, then all we needed to do was to flood this area with it.
“The target is… there. Let’s hope this works.” (Sirius)
Given the intermittent attacks from monsters, neither my physical nor magical stamina had recovered properly, and I no longer had the luxury of casting [Anti-Material]. So, I decided to use the last card, a magic stone, and, while evacuating to higher ground, I threw the card towards a specific wall. The shockwave from the [Impact] of mana stone’s full power easily crushed the hard bedrock, causing lava to erupt from a large opening. The force was tremendous, and the expansive steel mill was quickly engulfed by lava.
“That should do it. Now, let’s run again.” (Sirius)
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
With the monsters pursuing us also being caught up in the lava, we could breathe a little easier for now. However, after witnessing the steel mill being engulfed in lava, we continued to run through the darkness of the night since monsters would soon gather again.
Afterward, we continued to fight for survival. Abandoning any thoughts other than maintaining the mana stone and dealing with the approaching monsters, we constantly roamed the Demonic Continent with Hoku, battling against the creatures. However, as night fell and daytime passed, I began to feel a sense of unease and consciousness returned to me.
“Is this the limit?” (Sirius)
These words were not only directed at Hokuto, who was bearing the most burden, but also at the magic stone I held in my hand. The small cracks had widened significantly, and it seemed that it was on the verge of breaking, unable to even reach the magic circle. A few seconds later, it would turn into a mere stone. Deciding to shatter it completely, I infused it with magic and simultaneously threw it towards the point where the monsters were most densely clustered. Although the mana stone shattered into pieces in midair due to excessive magical overflow, the effect seemed to multiply several times. As a slight shockwave spread over a wide area, the ferocity of the monsters’ roars clearly increased.
“This is bad. The effect was beyond my expectations…” (Sirius)
“Woof…” (Hokuto)
Though I felt some regret, I decided to consider the disposal of the mana stone with the magic circle as a success. That technology was too advanced for the people of this era to possess. As the ferociously pursuing monsters increased their pursuit, I couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat. However, now that the mana stone was gone, there was no need to stay any longer on this Demonic Continent. Before escaping the Demonic Continent and destroying the bridge, there was one more thing we had to do. I had sent Hoktou towards a certain point in the Demonic Continent based on prior information, but Hokuto showed signs of hesitation as the monsters relentlessly chased us from behind.
“Woof!” (Hokuto)
“Maintain the speed. Don’t worry, just keep running!” (Sirius)
According to information from Lambda, the person seeking the sacred tree was supposedly deep inside a small cave inland, and I had intended to dive into that cave alone. The reason we parted ways at this point was because Hokuto was entrusted with another job. Hokuto is worried about me even though he has a big job to do, but if we go into the cave we’re heading towards, large monsters won’t be able to enter. So, I figured I could handle it alone if need be.
As we approached the entrance to the cave, I had been poised to leap off Hoku at the right moment. But upon spotting the target cave, I shouted spontaneously.
“Stop!” (Sirius)
Despite the sudden command, Hokuto slowed down while scraping the ground, coming to a halt just before the cave.
Halting while being pursued by monsters would usually be fatal, but this time, it seemed my decision was correct. The relentless monsters abruptly stopped moving just before the cave entrance, growling with frustration. It was as if there was an invisible barrier preventing them from advancing any further.
They had established a base here. The measures to keep monsters at bay were stronger than expected. Even the instincts of these creatures were twisted to the extent that they wouldn’t approach this place. In any case, there seemed to be no urgent need to rush into the cave. There was no response from within, and I sighed deeply as I descended slowly from Hoku’s back.
“Hokuto, you did well.” (Sirius)
“Woof…” (Hokuto)
‘If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this, it’s to trust your instincts. You’re my best partner, and without you, I couldn’t have done any of this madness, nor could I have guided so many monsters into the Demonic Continent.’
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
As I stroked my trusted companion’s head, Hokuto suddenly focused a serious gaze on me. There was a concern in those eyes, perhaps, about my decision to enter the cave alone.
“Woof…” (Hokuto)
“I understand. But if what we heard from Lambda is true, then I’m better off alone.” (Sirius)
Hokuto’s worry was understandable, and under normal circumstances, I would have turned back and returned with my comrades after making sure I was in top condition. However, I decided to go alone because the opponent needs to be dealt with as quickly as possible, and there’s a long-term strategy at play. Besides, in this cave, barely large enough for a medium-sized carriage to pass through, Hoku’s large frame would be significantly restricted.
“If anything happens, I’ll send a signal. Don’t miss it.” (Sirius)
“…Woof!” (Hokuto)
Hokuto’s fur was quite disheveled and he looked like an abandoned dog with all the dirt on him, and my hair was pulled back, but I shook it off and headed to the cave alone.
—
As I continued deeper into the cave and used [Search] to examine the interior, it seemed that the cave wasn’t as large as expected. However, there were areas within the walls that seemed to deflect magic, making them inaccessible to [Search]. Despite several branching paths along the way, the complexity was not enough to classify it as a maze, and there were no enemies or traps to hinder my progress. Thus, I proceeded smoothly without any impediments.
Passing by a substantial underground lake and walking down a gentle slope for some time, I noticed a significant change in the cave’s interior. Until then, it had been pitch dark, requiring the use of [Light] magic to see ahead. Suddenly, the brightness increased to the extent that it didn’t seem to require any light source.
“So, this must be their source of mana.” (Sirius)
The brightness emanated from translucent stones embedded in the surrounding rocks—mana stones. Their sheer number and size were unprecedented, turning the passage into more of a magic stone corridor than just a rocky path. The magic required to construct the bridge between continents must have come from these magic stones.
“Not as valuable as gold or silver treasures, but in a way, it’s a treasure trove. If I can secure this place, I could live a carefree life until the end.” (Sirius)
Mana stones were traded at high prices, and with an abundance of them here, it was a paradise for research on magical artifacts. It must have been an ideal environment for someone like Lambda, a researcher. Besides Lambda’s talent, the technological and magical tools produced here were clearly on a different level compared to Sandor.
Under different circumstances, I might have wanted to borrow some magic stones, but for now, it would have to wait. Continuing deeper into the cave, I eventually reached a vast chamber with what seemed like giant hollowed-out magic stone pillars, where I found what I had been looking for.
“This is truly a historic discovery. I wish I could show this to everyone.” (Sirius)
In the center of the chamber, where a small arena could fit, stood giant mana stone pillars that reached up to the ceiling. These impressive pillars, resembling natural works of art, were enough to make me stop in awe.
However, what caught my attention in this place wasn’t just the mana stone pillars. There were large platforms and tables for research, as well as heaps of clutter lined up against the walls of the chamber—my gaze naturally drawn to the magical artifacts.
“Gathering all this is impressive, but leaving behind such a large quantity is surprising.” (Sirius)
Every magic tool bore the seal of Shishou, evidence of their craftsmanship. Lambda had been collecting Shisho’s magic tools for the purpose of destroying Sandor, and it seemed my assumption was correct.
While I needed to investigate these items further later, my primary goal was to complete the mission at hand. Approaching one of the magic stone pillars, I lightly touched it with my fingertips.
It seemed to act as a switch, as the pillar began emitting a faint light, and a strangely clear voice echoed throughout the chamber.
“Holy… Tree… Sacred Tree…” (??)
This part matched what I had heard from Lambda, but to confirm, I recalled the conversation after settling matters with Lambda.
“I was swept into the Demonic Continent… desperately fleeing until I arrived… at the cave.” (Lambda)
“At its depths… there was a single pillar. When I accidentally touched it, enraptured by its beauty… the pillar suddenly began to speak…” (Lambda)
“The beginning… I couldn’t understand… I didn’t even know who I was…” (Lambda)
“But… that person imparted various knowledge to me… to me… the first… Shishou…” (Lambda)
The entity that bestowed knowledge upon Lambda… it wasn’t even a being, but rather a mysterious will imbued within the mana stones. While encountering enemies who imprisoned personalities within mana stones in the kingdom ruled by the Beast King, Arbyte, it might have been similar to that. Although the size of the magic stones here was on a completely different scale, both seemed to have similar magic circles drawn on them.
However, unlike those in Arbyte, this entity seemed unable to vocalize, and its voice could only be heard while directly touching it. Though there was no discomfort, I quietly gazed at the entire pillar until, unexpectedly, it initiated conversation.
“I’ll give you knowledge… I’ll provide my knowledge as nourishment…” (??)
Ignoring my identity, it seemed intent on unilaterally imparting knowledge. If I were to accept, I would receive various knowledge about magic circles and magical tools. While I was personally interested, I set that aside for the moment and inquired about its identity. However, as Lambda had described, it responded similarly.
“Name… existence… unknown… I don’t know… I’ll provide my knowledge as nourishment… Sacred Tree… Sacred Tree…” (??)
It seemed to be repeating single words like someone suffering from amnesia, recalling only what they remembered. This conversation reminded me of artificial intelligence from my previous life, but it also had a hint of humanity.
Lambda’s admiration for such an entity, incapable of even basic conversation, seemed peculiar. Lambda must have greatly admired the knowledge bestowed upon him, given freely at a time when he had lost his family and was at his limits, both mentally and physically, after being swept into the Magic Continent.
Through the knowledge from this enigmatic entity and the research on my master’s magical tools collected from around the world, Lambda gained tremendous power.
“Why do you give knowledge? What purpose does it serve for you?” (Sirius)
“I don’t know… I… knowledge…” (??)
“You keep mentioning the Sacred Tree. What do you want with it?” (Sirius)
“Sacred Tree… Sacred Tree…” (??)
“You seem to remember only that term, ‘Sacred Tree.'” (Sirius)
It seemed that the entity lacked the ability to sense anything beyond its vicinity. Considering this, the lack of reaction to Shishou’s knife nearby suggested that it might not be aware of anything outside its range. Alternatively, there was a possibility that the Sacred Tree it spoke of was a different entity altogether.
As I pondered this, I had a feeling that Shishou, unable to speak in this state, was trying to convey something. So, I released my grip on the pillar and retreated to near the entrance of the chamber, maintaining a cautious distance. Then, as I plunged the knife into a nearby magic stone protruding from the rock, Shishou seemed impressed and began speaking again.
“Even I must admit, I’ve never seen such a sight before. I thought I’d seen the whole world, but apparently not.” (Shishou)
“Don’t be impressed, and get to the point. Have you realized something?” (Sirius)
“Hmph, I’ll tell you without your prodding. That voice from the pillar… I know that kid.” (Shishou)
An acquaintance of my master… Given my master’s eccentricity, it wouldn’t be surprising for them to have acquaintances who weren’t even biological beings. Regardless, if it was an acquaintance, things would progress quickly. However, the relationship between my master and this pillar was quite unexpected.
“That’s my disciple whom I raised before meeting you in your previous life. Though the appearance may differ, I can’t be mistaken.” (Shishou)
“So, he’s my senior disciple. Wait a moment. If the appearance is different, does that mean he was originally human?” (Sirius)
“Yeah, he was a human male. I found him in a certain village when I was still traveling outside.” (Shishou)
It seemed my master stumbled upon the village by chance, finding the child in a house while seeking shelter. However, my master wasn’t interested in the child, and the child, wary, didn’t approach either. Without exchanging a word, they welcomed the next day, and Shishou left the destroyed village. But somehow, the child started following her.
“Even though I didn’t give him any food, he started following me. I must have been quite alluring.” (Shishou)
“Stop referring to him like he’s a pet. He probably didn’t have anyone else to rely on, so he reluctantly followed you, the only one he could.” (Sirius)
“Quit nagging. Anyway, since he kept following me around, annoying as it was, I ended up taking care of him.” (Shishou)
‘While my master provided protection, I doubted he offered much care. Rather, once the child grew older, I think Shishou probably ordered him to take care of me. That’s how it was for me.’
“He wasn’t as good as you, but he was quite a smart boy. He absorbed the knowledge I taught him in an interesting way, so it became somewhat enjoyable.” (Shishou)
“So, my senior disciple was more talented than me.” (Sirius)
“Heh, jealous, are you? But if you fought directly, you’d come out on top. Roughly speaking, that kid excelled in creating things, leaning towards intelligence, while you’re more of a brute.” (Shishou)
“It’s not jealousy, and that’s a harsh way to put it. Anyway, why is that human child now a pillar of mana stones?” (Sirius)
“I’d like to know that myself. We were together for about ten years after I found him, and when we parted ways, he still had his human form.” (Shishou)
“Any other information? I’d like to know his name.” (Sirius)
“His name… I forgot. I always called him ‘you’ or ‘hey.'” (Shishou)
Afterward, my master roughly explained the past with his senior disciple. Apparently, unlike my time, they had somewhat of a bond, akin more to parent and child than master and disciple.
“I’ve always told him, you know. I’ll eventually become the Sacred Tree and won’t be able to leave. So, when we part, think of it as never being able to meet again. So, until that time comes, gain the strength to survive alone.” (Shishou)
“And the result is that form? Did you have any disputes when you parted?” (Sirius)
“No, we parted ways in agreement. He said, ‘like a grown man leaving his parents’ nest, ‘I’ll become an adult on my own’. Despite that, why is he in that state…” (Shishou)
Though his tone was light, there was a hint of sadness in her words. It’s rare to see Shishou in such a sad state.
From her demeanor, it seemed like they parted ways amicably. So, why was his senior disciple in such a state with unclear memories?
“Did you notice the magic circle inscribed on the pillar?” (Sirius)
“Of course. That magic circle looks similar to the one I saw in Arbitray, but there’s something off about this one.” (Shishou)
While in Arbitray, even mana stones as small as a pinkie nail could think and converse like humans, the pillar in front of me only seemed capable of imparting knowledge one-sidedly.
“If you noticed it at a glance, that’s passable. The magic circle inscribed on that pillar… It’s incomplete. That’s why the personality transfer failed.” (Shishou)
So, while knowledge was retained, the personality wasn’t fully preserved.
Presumably, the mana stones Shishou saw in Arbitray served as a reference for him to improve upon this pillar. After all, failure was the mother of success.
Though I was curious about various aspects, my immediate concern was my senior disciple. Even though he couldn’t make moral judgments anymore, he had inadvertently caused major incidents with the knowledge he imparted. Leaving him alone wasn’t an option.
“Shishou…” (Sirius)
“Don’t try to read my mood. Have you decided what to do? Hurry up and get it over with.” (Shishou)
“Are you sure? Even without memories, he’s still your disciple. Moreover, despite his condition, he keeps mentioning the Sacred Tree… He’s yearning for you.” (Sirius)
The unfortunate thing was that a man with nothing left but revenge ended up coming to a place where no one was supposed to visit. Frankly, as long as my senior disciple wasn’t touched, he posed no threat. I could simply seal the entrance to the cave with explosives, erasing any trace of my senior disciple’s existence. With no one else knowing, no one would ever come here again. Having fewer people knowing would keep the secret safer. One of the reasons I came to the Magic Continent alone was for this purpose.
Well, that was an option, so I looked to my master for her thoughts. Her response was as expected.
“That’s exactly why. He’s not even questioning his own existence anymore, let alone understanding what he’s doing. Someone has to put an end to this.” (Shishou)
“…Understood. Shall I do it?” (Sirius)
“What are you talking about? He’s my disciple, so I’ll do it. Now, hurry up and stab him!” (Shishou)
“If that’s your resolve, I won’t say anything further.” (Sirius)
With that settled, I retrieved my master and returned to stand before my senior disciple. Touching the pillar, I raised the knife.
“Sacred Tree… I wish we could have met under different circumstances.” (Sirius)
And then, aiming for the center of the magic circle, I thrust the Sacred Tree’s knife.
